New Album Circles Around The Sun is set to be released on August 21st, 2012

“We’ve been called the biggest band nobody’s ever heard of,†says Brad Corrigan, one of Dispatch’s three singers and multi-instrumentalists. "People either know everything about us or they know nothing. There never seems to be any middle ground."

How Corrigan, Chad Stokes, and Pete Francis met in college, formed a band, and — with no radio airplay, major-label support, or significant press coverage — became one of the biggest draws on the live music scene, and arguably the biggest independent rock band in history, is a remarkable story. Though Dispatch hadn’t released a full-length album since 2000, and even officially called it quits in 2004, its music continued to capture the hearts and minds of new generations of rock fans through pure word-of-mouth. A 2004 farewell show at the Hatch Shell in Boston drew 110,000 people, including fans from Europe, South America, and Australia. Not one, but three 2007 shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden sold-out immediately. A 2009 all-acoustic show, held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., at the request of Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, sold out in less than two minutes.

Having repaired their friendships and reconciled the issues that led to their break-up, Dispatch regrouped for a sold-out U.S. tour last June that included three shows at Boston’s fabled TD Garden Arena, three shows at Red Rocks in Colorado, and the first-ever concert at New Jersey’s 25,000-seat Red Bull Arena. They also released a six-song EP and recommitted to touring and recording, honoring not only the alchemy that occurs whenever these three gather to make music together, but also the powerful bond they have forged with their fans over the last decade.

In March 2012, Dispatch embarked on its first-ever European tour, performing at theatres in London, Paris, Berlin, and Zurich, before appearing at the Bonnaroo Festival in June, followed by the August release of the band’s first full-length studio album in 12 years, Circles Around the Sun. Featuring cinematic, expansive production by Peter Katis (Interpol, Jonsi, The National), the album is an eclectic all-American rock and roll record that delivers the gutsy storytelling, radiant harmonies, and good-time grooves that Dispatch are loved for.

Social responsibility has always been a major component of the Dispatch culture. During its June 2011 tour, the band rolled out its Amplifying Education campaign, which focused on educational issues in the U.S. Not only did one dollar from each ticket sold go to benefit education in each local market, but audience members were encouraged to sign up to volunteer, which they did eagerly.

Each person who attends the concert will be eligible to receive a free download of the show. This will be available within 48 hours of the date. Fans will use the barcode number on their physical ticket to redeem the download.

Nufunk.ca proudly presents the 16th Annual Wailers Showcase, Saturday April 14th at the legendary El Mocambo. This Toronto springtime reggae tradition celebrates the music of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer -- The Original Wailers who defined reggae music as a genre and brought it to audiences all over the world. Headlined as always by the House of David Gang!!

The Story Of The Original Wailers

The three original Wailers -- Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Neville “Bunny Wailer†Livingston -- came together as a band in 1963. They were also known The Teenagers, The Wailing Rudeboys, and The Wailing Wailers before settling on the name synonymous with Jamaican roots reggae music: The Wailers. Other early members of the band included Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, Cherry Smith and Aston and Carlton Barrett.

Some of The Wailers’ most notable songs were recorded with Lee "Scratch" Perry and his studio band The Upsetters. During the early 1970s, the Barrett brothers formed the Wailers Band, providing instrumental backing for The Wailers. The Wailers recorded groundbreaking reggae songs such as "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up" and "Get Up, Stand Up". They disbanded in 1974, and each of the three main members then had a solo career. Bob Marley achieved international fame with Bob Marley & The Wailers (with the Wailers Band as backing band and the I Threes as backing vocalists) until his death in 1981. Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer both enjoyed considerable solo success as reggae music continued to gain popularity during the 1970s and 1980s. They were supported by their respective backing bands Word, Sound and Power and The Solomonic Orchestra.

Bob Marley died at age 36 of cancer in 1981, and remains the most beloved reggae icon of all time. Peter Tosh was murdered in 1987, his story immortalized in the Canadian-produced documentary "Stepping Razor Red X"; Carlton Barrett was killed that same year and Junior Braithwaite was also murdered in 1999. Cherry Smith passed away in 2008 at age 65. Bunny Wailer and Beverley Kelso are the only two surviving original members; Aston Barrett still tours with The Wailers Band.

“DJ Yoda was instrumental in creating the bootleg ‘cut-up’ mixing style. Whilst most other ‘superstar’ DJ’s were macho-postulating and demanding huge fees, Yoda was doing it for laughs… Nearly a decade later, in an era of playlist-skipping and remixes of bootlegs of bootlegs, he’s more relevant than ever.†- XYZ Magazine, February 2010

Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. His seminal How To Cut & Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q Magazine to declare him “one of the ten DJs to see before you dieâ€, whilst Hip Hop Connection voted him “one of the top three DJs in the worldâ€.

From hip-hop beginnings, DJ Yoda has evolved in the past ten years, using his turntable skills and diverse influences as varied as Funk, B-more, Kuduro, Reggae, Drum ‘n’ Bass and even Big Band Swing and Country & Western to make unashamed party music. He can be found cutting the Indiana Jones theme with woofer-worrying Dubstep or The Muppet Theme with MIA. His shows are peppered with Film, TV and YouTube samples and visuals that lift his sets to new and stratospheric heights.

Trail-blazing into the world of the audio-visual he pioneered a new artform, using cutting edge technology that he has been instrumental in developing, to scratch and mix visuals on top of his DJ sets in the clubs. Starting out by re-scoring both ‘The Goonies’ and ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ on the festival circuit in 2003 and 2004, DJ Yoda went on to transform the average night out into a fusion of clubbing and the movies. His recent AV tours have included “DJ Yoda Goes To The Moviesâ€, “Magic Cinema Show†and “National Video Vacationâ€.

DJ Yoda recently released the fourth and fifth instalments of the ‘How To Cut and Paste’ mix CD series, moving even further away from the hip-hop template into un-chartered musical territory. Blowing the barn doors off for a wild hayride into the heart of Country & Western, Vol. 4 was a truly surprising and groundbreaking edition, whilst ‘The ‘30’s Edition’ (Vol. 5) featured the kings of swing retooled with raw 21st Century beats. It scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in iDJ magazine, and has thrown the doors wide open for the series’ future.

For his debut album ‘The Amazing Adventures Of DJ Yoda’, released to critical acclaim in 2006, he produced tracks with Biz Markie, 2005 MOBO-winner Sway, Princess Superstar, Jungle Brothers, MC Paul Barman, and a host of other vocalists. He has also made music for Film, TV and Advertising and is currently finishing a new artist album.

    Big League Chu

    www.BigLeagueChu.com

Colin Chu, better known as Big League Chu, is simply the leading DJ talent in Canada's breakbeat scene today. After nearly a decade of DJing, his name is synonymous with the funky, party-happy sound that?s become Chu's rallying call - and it's one that crowds answer faithfully. Passion for music and fun are what motivates Chu, who plays the piano, flute and guitar, and counts the Dave Matthews Band and Public Enemy as his biggest musical influences. It's this good-natured respect for good times and eclectic sounds that has garnered this humble DJ of Hong Kong and Singaporean descent to such a steady stream of press, from underground publications like Tribe and Klublife to mainstream outlets like the Toronto Star and Eye weekly. As Make It Funky's main resident, Colin dynamic sets and down to earth nature has made him Toronto's most sought after performer.

Nerve is the world's premier live electronic music band. Initiated in the spring of 1998 as an improvisational platform for musicians to explore the exploding drum'n'bass scene, Nerve evolved over the years to be a compact unit featuring renowned drummer Jojo Mayer, bassist John Davis, keyboard player Takuya Nakamura, and engineer Roli Mosimann. Following years in the underground NYC scene, Nerve escaped to Europe during the Bush regime, and returned to NYC in 2009, playing such venues as Le Poisson Rouge, a residency at Nublu, and BPM, as well as continuing to tour heavily in Europe and Japan.
