  1. Robertson is probably the act that people would be most familiar with - his band is formerly known as Bullfrog - which played with Kid Koala for many years. Robertson (Montreal, Soulbeat Records) www.myspace.com/robertsondebullfrog Robertson, the singer-songwriter and main instigator behind the internationally acclaimed Montreal pop band Bullfrog, is ready to hit it live with his new Lp †Favorite People “. After years of working the Montreal and Canadian club circuit, touring the world as Bullfrog’s front man and kid koala’s guitar player, headlining clubs and festivals all over north America and Europe, Robertson has been turning heads as a solo artist. Since his well received 2004 release †Deeper Shade of Green†Robertson could be seen playing shows in Canada and Europe, appearing on bass for Money Mark, opening for Kid Koala, MichaelFranti and SpearHead, BlueRodeo, Soulive,Wailers, Maceo Parker…and more. His solo show has pleased audiences in small clubs and festivals across Canada, France, Germany and South Africa, recently appearing on Arte Tv w/ Marcus Miller and Manu Katche for ’One Shot Not’ in Paris, and the prestigious Place des Arts for the Festival Internationnal de Jazz de Montreal 2008.( His 8th performance at the Montreal Jazz fest.) Robertson’s new sound reflects his past; a singer-songwriter steeped in soul, heavily rooted in funk, bluesing on melancholic love songs with tongue in cheek and crooked pop-sensibilities, guitars laced with wahs and mutrons, fingered and pedaled basses, live beats and sampled drums. Sometimes up and funky, at times down tempo and intimate. People who have heard Robertson are saying †It’s baby making music …! “. Live Robertson sings, plays guitars, bass, sampled drums, loops and effects, backed by the multi-instrumentalist Peter Santiago on bass and drums and other Bullfrogs always keeping things interesting and fun. His new self produced release titled “Favorite People †is 11 tracks of modern and vintage sounds and songs ; close and personal as an indie yet smooth as old 70’s soul . This †baby making music †was recorded in different home studios with the help from his favorite band Bullfrog, Kid Koala and Slim Williams, and mixed by Vid Cousin at Koala’s studio The Record Room. here's that show info: Saturday, November 14th, 2009 NuJazz Festival Gala Event Jazzanova (Sonar Kollectiv, Germany) DJ John Kong (Do Right!), Rollin' Cash (Hot Pie Records) with live guest Robertson (Montreal) plus opening set by DJ gaDJet with Live Percussion by Chico Pacheco hosted by Charles Lewis @ El Mocambo - 464 Spadina Ave. $15 Adv. $20 at the Door VIP TICKETS $30 available online only
  2. We bought the tickets so long ago - I don't remember where we are sitting. We fell in love with the movie Once - stumbled upon it after reading about it here (Thanks Jaimoe!). We caught them the last time they were in town and we are pumped about tonight as we have been studying the new album and reading about their break-up. Also there was so much comedy at the last show - Glen has some really funny stories and is such an emotional singer - they really are able to take their audience on a ride of emotions. We've also been playing at a couple of weddings and family events and we do a great version of "Falling Slowly" Yes, I feel like the luckiest man alive to have found such a sweet and wonderful partner - It's been really great - I can't believe we've been together for 2 years now. The official anniversary is Nov. 20th - but this was my first gift to her for being so wonderful. see you there!
  3. Hey Everyone, I'm working hard on my second annual NuJazz Festival, and I'm really happy with the line up and interest so far. I am wondering if anyone here has any interest in any of the shows and/or willing to help me promote this. check out the line up here: www.nujazz.ca
  4. Me and the girlfriend will be there tonight - it's the start of our 2 year anniversary month long celebration! YAY! I hope the seats are good!
  5. info coming shortly... doors at 9 - music will start shortly after that... 3 bands, with two long sets - by Cormeal and the Bridge!
  6. The number that was picked out of a hat was 16. Checking the order of entries based on the first entry being #1 and the last entry #39 - the 16th entry in the contest was Margaret. Congrats to all who participated. It's a weird co-incidence - but the tickets couldn't have gone to a nicer and more deserving person. Margaret is one of the most supportive music fans - from hosting late night parties, to spreading word of mouth to supporting so many local bands - we salut you!
  7. There were 40 entries for the contest and we calculated the order in which these entries came in - out of a hat we picked a number, cross referenced it with the order in which we received the entries and we are both shocked and excited to announce that Margaret Hastings-James aka Large Marge has won a pair of tickets to Umphrey's McGee next Wednesday!

  10. Announcing the winners today! contest closed yesterday. Thanks for your patience!
  11. Great story! I'm pretty fond of Al Kooper from the The Blues Project stuff. One of the riffs from their album turned out to be a big hit for The Beastie Boys. I think he's on Electric Ladyland and on parts of hits by Lynyrd Skynyrd - definitely a important keyboard player of the 60-70. That's amazing that you got to meet him - I hope you told him about BNB too!
  12. Facebook gives us a good indication on how many people are coming. That info helps us budget the show accordingly. I also find it helpful to know which of my friends are coming to the show. There is a side of Facebook that I think is a bit intrusive, but it has become the tool in promoting shows across the globe. As a smaller promoter, Facebook allows me to promote to the people in my circle quite effectively and I am grateful for the cost-effectiveness and I am in awe of social networking capabilities it offers. p.s. Gelaskins rule!

  18. I didn't have the best time - but I only got there for the 2nd set... most people I spoke with thought that set 1 was way better. I think Warren is a way better guitar player then songwriter - especially his later output seems to be in that loud Blues Rock vein - and lacks the dynamics of his previous work. I really wish that they'd do some acoustic stuff to break up the set. The Drum solo seemed very lack-lustre - he was very proficient but it didn't seem musical. It was a treat to have Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar/Grady up there - although they traded some great blues licks - it was some pretty cliche stuff. People I talked to outside tole me that they hate Gordie and that they'd rather him not be up there - I disagree but I hear their point of Gordie often making an appearance at their Toronto shows. That being said "I'm a Ram" was probably my favorite song of the night.
  19. Benevento-Brad Barr-Joe Russo - that's a powerful combo!
