Ten guys jump one, what a man

You fight each other, the police state wins

Stab your backs when you trash our halls

Trash a bank if you've got real balls

You still think swastikas look cool

The real nazis run your schools

    They're coaches, businessmen and cops

In a real fourth reich you'll be the first to go

  2. what a hoot!

Last spring Smith came to Anchorage (he did a 4 hour Q&A!). I recall the Degrassi reference in Chasing Amy and his fan-letter to Jonovision when the original cast of Degrassi reunited, SO I asked him about his fascination on Degrassi and he gushed for 5 minutes about the topic.

However, I'm disappointed this guy is still hanging on to the Jay and Silent Bob shtick. I thought he retired them in the "Strikes Back" flick?

Oh well, the episodes will be a hoot regardless!

    GOURMET SCUM 4 Life!!

  3. thanks for the pics Luke; your contribution to the headee scene is immeasurable. Kidding; appreciate it!

In regard to the stage diving, there was a funny incident: you know in the latter half of the Mollusk where they repeat in an echo, "Yes, Yes, Yes... No, No, No", well as this dude stage dived the crowd split leaving a gap for him to crash onto the floor; the band responded by shaking their heads and emphasizing the "NO, NO, NO" part; jokes!

  4. -ok, to clarify, NAN put a fat grin on my face;

-Springtheme always RULZ: what made it special was that it sounded different from the studio version.

    -Claud did sing Final Alarm

    - Gene only sang the first verse or so of Italian Rest; they cut it short (maybe because no one recognized it or cared where it was going) with Gene saying, "This is a work in Progress".

-thought of you Luke during Birthday Boy

-oh yeah, I forgot to highlight AWESOME SOUND!!! Never thought I'd ever hear that one live; much different and exploratory than the Pod version

  5. So last Friday Ween kicked off their West Coast tour in Girdwood (40 minutes outside Anchorage; it's a skiing/snowboard town with a vibrant hippie/heady presence/vibe).

They sold out this cafeteria-like shed (aprox 600 people). The atmosphere inside was awesome: security way-lax, moshing/stage diving up front, square dancing on the side, dancing on tables. The band responded kindly to the energy/chaos with a 3 hour show (no setbreak) with over 30 songs that covered their entire career.

Personal highlights: Happy Coloured Marbles, Springtheme, Touch My Tooter, She Fucks Me, Final Alarm, Ace of Spades (kicked my ass!), ooh and Don't Squeel on a Pusher!!!!!!

Overall the show was a lot of fun! But I still prefer their studio work :P

  6. Luke, I don't mean to be pedantic (this will help explain my attitude towards live Ween), but in response to your Henry Rollins quote on Ween (which is hilarious if you've heard his whole rant) is taken from a live-spoken Rollins show where Ween opened up back in the early 90s. What made Ween a force to be reckoned with back then was "live-Ween" consisted solely of Gene and Dean spazzing out on stage with a guitar and a programmed synthesiser. Sh!t like "Tick" and "Fat Lenny" in that live context were insane and intriguing to witness; it either blew your mind, tickled your funny bone or made you frustrated. I would've loved to see Ween back then (but unfortunatley on the Pure Guava tour they played at Lee's Palace which was 19 and over). Then during the CHocolate and Cheese tour Ween emerged as a "band", thus changing their live shows dramatically. A lot of people seem to dig it, however there are those (who I know personally) who don't and either just prefer to stick to their studio outputs or have given up on Ween entirely (their loss because Quebec rulz)! Sure, you can look at it as being snobbish ("oh, they were so heady then, and now they sold out, a la Dylan going electric")but...

Basically what I'm saying in defence to an argument left unheard months ago, is that, for me, the genius of Ween resides in their studio/4-track albums: there's a unique essence and aura captured there that I haven't seen duplicated nor matched live. For me, live Ween nowadays feels like a beer bash sing along (but there's nothing wrong with that, it's fun) and a chance to see Dean squirm and rip up fat solos in your face.

So what I'm saying is.... The goin' gets tough from the getgo go man go Oh brother, not another motherfucker Gotta go now!

  7. ooh, The Prince; damn that's good; and Fight Fire with Fire!!! No Misfits covers this time?

And I agree, And Justice... was Metallica's peak; from then on it's become the donward spiral.

Has anyone seen the documentary? So fu©king funny! What a sad state they're in now ("Temptation"?!?!); now here's a band that should retire while they can still save some face (or is it too late for that?).
