  1. the funniest thing ever was the first time I met ROBBAE at a Halifax Dalhousie Freshman bar after he spotted my Gamehenge shirt. To make a long story short, we're coming home from Phish Phall '99 tour and Rob finally confesses to me in the heat of an argument at a McDonald's in the middle of New Hampshire that I'm worthless and only good for my car. That's when I tossed his bags out and left him stranded at McDick's. (I didn't actually leave him, but if I did, that would of been priceless, looking back and all, wouldn't you say so Roggae).

    reeeee I'm Bouncin'.....

  2. if H was directing her question at me, here's more info in a brief way:

In Alaska, Uncle Sam has humanitarian/development funds set aside; Chukotka is the most North-East province in Russia, thus being Alaska's neighbor; since the Communist machine collapsed, Chukotka got royally screwed (economically and socially); last Summer I worked for the Red Cross out there trying to put some pieces back together; now in Alaska we're trying to see whether or not a micro-credit program would be feasible out there; microcredit is simply banking for poor people without assets/collateral; a poor person receiving a loan would also get technical and social assistance included, so it's also a social investment into the community; micro-credit has proven very successful in Bangladesh and other parts of the developing world.

  3. ok, Al Gore burned my posse out quick! He's stiffer than a.... [Confused]

PhishX3 was more than i could ask for!!!![big Grin]

Contact was sweet. however the "drop into the dorm room" was WAY too reminiscent of the Aerosmith+Wayne's World skit. [Roll Eyes]

46 Dayz>> much sweeter and looser than the album version! Mike was filling in some dank bass grooves under Trey's whaling licks! Nice to see Page in the mix! [Cool]

YEM+kids dancing around a Golden Calf during Charlie Brown X-mas>> words can't describe how funny that was on so many different levels! [Eek!]

Did anyone dig the semi-Gamehenge-esque jam they were messing with before the YEM lyrics?!?!?! [smile]

Oh shit, and the Chalkdust was NICE too. Nice how Trey tweaked the Climax refrain! Hope this is a sign of things to come!!! (i'm having way too mauch with these face icons [Wink]

ovwerall, very pleased. Can't wait for NYE (30th row on the floor baby!!!!! [smile]

Luckily I had my laptop during the lame skits. Busted out some prestine footage of the Dead's 2 seperate appearances on SNL in '78 (after Egypt; Jerry looks like he smoked the Burning Bush; they Jammed I need a Miracle and KC Jones) and their stop in '80 during Radio City tour with A. Getaway and St Circum

  4. hope I'm not too late!

I used to work at Queen Video (Toronto's #1 independent vid shop next to Suspect Video), so here were some of my golden staff picks:

FANTASTIC PLANET- friends and I had an epiphany watching this back in grade 10. It's a 70's animated psych flick that has a funky soundtrack that'll BLOW YOUR MIND. This movie changes lives. I actually know someone who keeps a copy of this under their bed if that says anything (no it's not anime porn).

THE KILLING- early b/w Kubrick flick. If you dig crime/thrillers in the vein of Usual Suspects, rent this. It's classic flawless Kubrick telling the perfect crime at its best!

HEAVYWEIGHTS- never judge a film by its cover. This was one of those Disney flicks that came and went real quick. Quick Synopsis: fat kids go to fat camp to feel good about each other, until a crazed health freak takes over to turn it into a weight loss info-mercial camp. What saves this flick is BEN STILLER who plays the crazed new camp owner!! Stiller had full control of the character and it shows 'cause he's fucking on the ball in every scene! If you dig early Stiller humor (i.e., the Ben Stiller Show on Fox, not like the sell out he is today) then rent this and pack it nice 'cause you'll be howling for more!!!

THE WICKER MAN- this is the horror film that ends all others. you've never seen anything like it, and you never will!

these are top quality recomendations! Those who know, will stand by me 10-fold. TRUST, and don't support Blackbuster, they suck!

If you happen to rent from Queen Video, they're the only shop that carries Mike Gordon's "Outside Out" on dvd.

  5. 46 DAYZ is quite the rockin' number and my fav!

Although the lyrics are cheesy on FRIDAY, I like the sound of MIke's voice supporting the chorus.

MEXICAN COUSIN also has grown on me.

As for PEBBLES AND MARBLES, it starts out good, but the jam is like any typical DWD 2000 throw away jam. Doesn't sound like it has a flavor of it's own.

  6. can't say I really dig Phish for their studio output, yet there are some versions captured in the studio that sound brilliant (Esther, Demand, Horn, Fee, Billy Breathes).

But if there's ONE album that blows me away to this day, it's the WHITE ALBUM. Now that's RAW, and the music speaks for itself. The guys are just having so much fun, and they're experimenting with sound and samples that I only wish they'd still play around with more (listen to N2O, it's utterly a trip to the brain the way it starts at the Dentist's chair and slides into the most beautiful Trey acoustic composition). And that's the other thing too>> the acoustic tunes on here can't be beat! AND SO TO BED, AFTERMATH! This album's the goods, 'nuff said...

  7. oh man, Lake Trout by far get the award for biggest BUZZKILL of the year. The way they blended drum 'n bass with there alterna-jam shtick was a fucking joke. The guys were way too cocky on stage ripping off this band called Trans Am.

As for GTB, they've improved greatly since I saw them the 1st time at their Halifax debut years ago. These guys are going somewhere; but Lake Trout, double bleh!!! [Mad]

  8. funny I just read that article left over on the train from Cambridge University to London. Woody's in London performing in a play with Agent Cooper (Kyle McKlaughlin (spell?)).

Thought the article was interesting from his perspective, however I was a little put off over the fact him and his driver went drinking and then his driver dropped him off.

  9. FAWK,

check out the new Dead releases:

    Grateful Dead/Dick's Picks,

    Volume 26

    Electric Theater * Chicago, IL * April 26, 1969

I've got the 2nd show on tape and it's fucking GREAT (it begins on disc 1 with Lovelight)!

And they also decide to relase this:

    Grateful Dead

    Go To Nassau

    Nassau Veterans Memorial

    Coliseum

    Uniondale, NY * May 15 & 16,

    1980

Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad > Good Lovin'

I need cash sooo bad! I still need to catch up from the DP23 Cow Palace release. And if anyone has the DP25 (have an aud copy on tape), how awesome is disc 4 where they mess up the lyrics to Dancin' (the rumor is they were riding high that night on speed, wouldn't be surprised because it kind of shows in the up tempo powerhouse nature of the show).

Anyone have the Steppin' Out London '72 run?

  10. Here's what I think,

the Cheese have gone mouldy and it's only a matter of time people get a stomach ache.

Stick with BISCO, there's no expiration date!

Kung, don't sweat it bro, it's all JOKES! The Cheese are a tad overrated. And it's time to refresh Northernheads. I'll see you hopefully at the Lake Trout show in Tdot.

  11. [Eek!]

I can't believe some of these posts!! [Eek!]

To each his own, I guess [Confused]

But how can anyone deny PICASSO MOON? [Wink]

    Least favorite?........

Probably the one song that does nothing for me would be FRANCE, but that's too easy, so I'll go with ........hmmmmmm....... ahh hell, it's all good! I can't pick one. Oh wait, GENTLEMAN START YOUR ENGINES, now that's crap!

Now I have to stick up for KEEP YOUR DAY JOB, I think it's got a great snappy groove, and the message is clear and poignant for the time, and how can you reject Jerry when he goes "hey hey hey"?

As for Donna, sure she blows it at times, however certain Dead versions feel incomplete without her presence: Half Step, Cassidy, Sing Me Back Home, TMNStopped! If you're looking for a sweet duo between Jerry and Donna, seek out a rare Dolly Parton cover they did of TOMORROW IS FOREVER ('72). Very nice! [smile]

  12. DUDE,

    check it out!

6 months ago I caught Zorn with similiar lineup here in London (UK) and it was INCREDIBLE. They weren't playing Masada material, more of a surf-esque abstract/groove flavor. However Zorn's Masada compositions are awesome. It's based on old school euro-Hasidic Jewish music (picture Rabbis dancing with their wrists in the air snapping their fingers as they circle one another in a Hora). Basically, anything with Zorn in the mix, you're bound for something unique and captivating. And with a line up like that, you can't go wrong!

Also note, Marc Ribot was part of the Surrender to the Air ensemble that included Trey/Fishman/Oteil Burbridge/Medeski/Michael Ray................... [Cool]
