This summer is no different for SCI. After some time off since New Years to revitalize and re-inspire, The String Cheese Incident now announces their tour plans for the summer months ahead. Summer tour highlights involve several dates with Bob Weir & RatDog, including Fourth of July weekend at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre, where Keller Williams and Taj Mahal will also join the bill. Bob Weir & RatDog and SCI will share the stage for 14 dates total, until SCI catches up again with Keller at the 10,000 Lakes Festival, where they'll join each other for a rare "Keller Incident." The band will also stop in Alaska for a couple shows on their way to Japan for the tenth annual Fuji Rock Festival. The summer tour will wrap up with a three night blow out at the beautiful Cuthbert Amphitheater in Eugene, Oregon. The String Cheese Incident has emerged as one of today's most significant independent bands. Born in 1993 in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, SCI has since released 6 albums, 3 DVDs and countless live recordings from their relentless tour schedule. Their relatively short history is packed full of surreal experiences, epic moments, groundbreaking involvement and huge accomplishments. They have been recognized for their commitment to musical creativity and integrity, for their community spirit and philanthropic endeavors, and for their innovative approach to the business of music. And their journey has only just begun.

The band's most recent studio release, One Step Closer, was released in 2005. On the album SCI divulge their genuine songwriting voice, and it's every bit as ambitious as you'd expect. Recorded at a friend's home in the hills of Colorado's Front Range, and produced by Malcom Burn (Bob Dylan, Chris Whitley, Emmylou Harris, Daniel Lanois), the album's 13 songs are gritty, free-wheeling and powerfully honed. With each member contributing their part, the collection reveals another masterful breakthrough from one of today's most visionary and talented rock bands.

  2. I'll be bringing a big, old winter coat and my rain coat, just in case. Hopefully I won't have to use them, or at least not very often.

On a related note, it is my understanding after communicating with Mark Wilson that there will be a huge tent covering the outdoor stage. The tent will cover the stage and most of the area in front of the stage where the audience will be. This will definitely be welcome if the weather is ugly.

Looking forward to a great weekend, no matter what the weather, but my fingers and toes are crossed for clear skies and warm weather.

    Peace, Mark

  3. People told me that the Black Crowes rock, and after seeing them for the first time, I agree. I was in the mood for a rockin' show with some solid jams, and the band delivered. A very good show, in my opinion.

I thought the sound was pretty good, especially by about the 4th song. I was standing at the back of the floor section in front of the stage, righ in front of taper Karl.

Thanks to Scott and Scott for the pre and post show hospitality. I also wish that I could have stayed longer after the show, but my Sunday was too full to do so.

Saw some guy fly through the window of Pizza Pizza on the way out (ouch)... hope he didn't slice himself too badly...

Willy and I heard this, and looked back wondering what happened. Yes, hopefully the guy is ok.

Looking forward to this upcoming weekend!

    Peace, Mark

  4. I (always) love to hear the Fatties play. I've said that on this board too many times to count. They are one of my absolutely positively all-time favourite bands, so I'd be happy if they closed and played two sets. But different people like different things, and JSB always seems to deliver in a big way at fests, and lots of people love them.

I'm not sure if Mike Flip-o-switch :) will still be around on Sunday night, but if he is, it would be a treat to see him join Superstack for some late night guitar jamming in the saloon. Or get Crissinger in there. Or Gillies. Or maybe there will be the ultimate campfire jam going on somewhere ...

I love how everyone somehow manages to fit into the saloon, no matter how small it is and how many people are at the festival. There is usually enough campfire music going on that people have a variety of late-night musical happenings to choose from.

OK, now I'm getting excited thinking about next weekend!

    Peace, Mark

  5. before i was apprehensive about Darien due to the opening slot at an outdoor venue: weak light show plus too much distraction and too much hype can lead to a potentially frustrated experience, unless you're within the first 50 rows from the stage

It's a good point ... I've had that experience as well with opening bands at big outdoor venues. Having said that, I'm thinking it should be fairly easy to get within 50 rows of the stage during the opening sets ... I don't think that the amphitheatre will be very full when the show starts.

But I agree that the Hummingbird Centre will likely be a better spot to catch Trey/Mike/Marco/Joe than Darien Lake will be.

    Peace, Mark

  6. now i dont have to worry about the stupid border OR the drive to darien lake

[color:purple]Or that silly Phil Lesh guy. What's he thinking with all those extra notes' date=' weird timings, multiple key signatures, and fancy jamming?[/color']

Willy, you make me laugh! I like the Hummingbird Centre as a venue, and the Trey/Mike/Marco/Joe show there has huge potential, but the thought of adding Phil & Friends to the bill, and holding it outside at a venue that I can camp at, and party at, puts it over the top for me.

I still might hit up the Toronto show, but man oh man the concert budget is getting stretched in a big way.

    Peace, Mark

  7. Come Together Music Fest ticket update:

Tickets are selling well. Shakedown Street in Kitchener has sold out of their initial shipment of tickets; they will have more available on Saturday.

Tickets are now available in London at Organic Traveller.

More tickets are also being sent to Shady Grove in Hamilton.

Visit http://www.cometogethermusicfest.ca/ for ticket locations, phone numbers, the lineup and schedule for the weekend, etc.

    The frontier draws near ...

    Peace, Mark

  8. 13 - Thela Hun Ginjeet - King Crimson

This is one of many reasons why I'm blown away that Tony Levin is playing at the Corktown in Hamilton!

The Barney Miller theme song ... yes! ... a friend of mine used to play it in highschool, but I totally forgot about that until I heard Ian from Diesel Dog play it a year or two ago at a show.

    Peace, Mark

  9. I can never remember a period in time where a string of shows I'm interested in has been announced like the shows that have been announced in the last month or two.

Here's the in list of shows I'll be at for sure:

    Black Crowes London

    Come Together Music Festival

    Tony Levin Hamilton

Fat Cats & Harvard Mouse Hamilton

    ABB Niagara Falls Saturday Night

Phil & Friends, Trey, Mike, Marco, Joe Darien Lake

    Lose Yer Shoes

    Gathering of the Vibes

I'm sure some more will make it into the list of shows I'll be at. I decided to pass on CSNY and Roger Waters ... just not a big enough desire to see these shows, given the cost.

    Peace, Mark

  10. I also want to note, again, how good a venue Mavericks is, and how good their people are. At one point during HM's set, a guy ended up standing right in front of my mic stand. This wasn't a big deal, but he looked like he was there alone, and not friends of any band members, or friends of friends of band members. He was also swaying back and forth a bit... At one point during some hockey banter, one of the Mouses threw a cap into the audience, and this guy decided he'd take his cap off and throw it onto the stage. This wasn't a big deal, except that he had obviously disposed of his balance long before this, and he came reeling back towards the mic stand, bumping into it, and then having trouble achieving veriticality. The bartender then swooped out from behind the bar (even beating me to him, as I had come around to politely ask him to make sure he didn't bump into the stand again), and forcibly escorted the guy out. (My guess is that the bartender had marked this guy as "borderline" when he arrived, and this was the last straw.)

You're correct in your assumption about the Mavericks bartender having him in his sights when he arrived. I talked with the bartender after the show and he told me it's happened before with the same guy. I agree with everybody's comments about Mavericks staff - we were treated very well all night!

And bradm, HUGE thanks for recording the HM set, and for making it available so quickly!

    Peace, Mark

  11. Hey Dr. Evil and CJ ... what a wonderful home you have! Thanks for hosting this past weekend.

I had a blast at Mavericks. Inglewood Jack got me dancing, and things felt really comfortable on stage with Harvard Mouse. Thanks for the feedback bradm ... I think we're a better band than we were the last time we played in Ottawa, and your comments support that view.

It was a treat running into friends both at Mavericks and after. I just wish I had more of a voice all weekend - it was very frustrating trying to communicate with people while barely being able to talk!

I look forward to the next time ...

    Peace, Mark

  12. Oh, please don't misunderstand me; I cannot confirm anything. All I heard is that LYS was trying to book Harvard Mouse for the festival.

It looks like what you heard is correct my friend ... Harvard Mouse will be playing at Lose Yer Shoes this year. I'm very much looking forward to making it to my first LYS, and the thought of playing at the festival brings an even bigger smile to my face. :) :)

    Peace, Mark

  13. Dude. Message boards are for public comment. I said it nicely and without malice. I shake my head sadly at those who shake their heads sadly at people who don't agree with them!

I'll probably still be at the fest (now that it appears I can get a ticket in Hamilton - thanks for checking that out, Mark). I understand that the 500 ticket limit must be in place in order to keep the festival legit, and hence the organizers can't work up the kind of revenue to book multiple out-of-town acts.

Hey Good Rev, I understand how some would be disappointed with the lack of bigger names from the States or more variety at this fest. I think that many of us would love to hit up a festival in Ontario that is similar to one of those that seems to happen so frequently south of the border. I know that I would. Having said that, I would still want there to be an event like this one, which features some of our Canadian favourites. Personally, one of the best weekends of my entire life happened up at Frontier Town five years ago, during the May 2001 Come Together Fest. And there was nothing but "local favourites" at that event. And some great friends that I met for the first time ever during the course of that weekend ...

No problem with finding out about Hamilton tickets and Shady Grove. Basically, I am doing whatever I can to support and help out Mark Wilson with this festival, because I love the music and the people that I've met over the years at these events.

I'm quite certain BNB will rock CTMF harder than any yankee band that they could drag up here...

Burt Neilson Band, Sunday May 20, 2001, Come Together Music Fest at Frontier Town, Papa Was A Rolling Stone to start the second set ... it sends shivers through my body just thinking about it!

As far as I am concerned, its a joke.

Booche, it would be great to see you and Douglas at Frontier Town so we could share the joke and some other laughs together! :P

    Peace, Mark
