  1. I haven't felt the urge to fully step into the 21st century gadget-wise. I bought a 44-inch HDTV three years ago and own a very good surround stereo system, but unless someone gives me them, I won't be getting an iPod, cellphone, MP3 and especially a blackberry. I love the romance of CD's and LP's. I also think that lots of music will rarely get listened to, essentially lost in the massive somewhere your iPod library. However, I hope my DVD players break because I want an HD-DVD player.
  2. What about Dave Brubeck? Aloha' date=' Brad[/quote'] I thought about Brubeck, but he's even older and doesn't have their chops.
  3. McCoy Tyner is the only other jazz piano great left from Oscar's era. See him while you can. RIP Oscar the great.

    Dexter

Dexter is an anti-hero whereas Hannibal is not.

    Dexter

I don't think she's supposed to be or look hot. She's a total brash and crass tomboy.
  6. Live in New York is for sure a high point skill-wise in the 70's. One of his best bands.

    Dexter

She is indeed the title character from The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

    Dexter

I know a few folks that hate Doakes' one-dimensional anger-filled character.

    Dexter

I never noticed a lisp on Angel. I just chalked his inflections to an accent.

    Dexter

I think Vince, Angel and Dex's father are good supporting characters. Dexter's sister is a tough one to like - it's all in the way she's written. She is in every way a tomboy and grating and immature too. Keith Carradine was better in Deadwood.

    Dexter

I loved Season II. The show has its flaws, but they don't overshadow its greatness.
  12. This is currently going on and from what I can tell, NOT being investigated by the cops as of yet. Many people at my work, including CityTv news anchor Gord Martineau, are out a bundle of cash. I'm reading emails tonight and it's a bit of an epidemic. So, if you are going shopping on Queen Street West near the Chum building at Queen and John Streets, do not use your credit and/or debit cards. All fingers seem to be pointing at the Subway across the street from the Chum parking lot. St. Patrick's corner store is also in question too.
  13. Since we seem to know a fair bit about Frank, especially you two clowns, what era do you think Frank was at his best guitar-wise? I think it was the early to mid 70's - he was fucking tight and his bands back then were killer. I know that Frank would quit playing guitar between records and tours only to practice like a madman before hitting the road, which altered his style from year to year.
  14. I didn't know Vol. II was edited from various shows, but the Inca Roads solo on Vol. II is perfect in delivery, impact and length and thus better than the one's you've listed. Shut up and play you guitar Brad.
  15. Indeed #2 is the only complete show. It contains Zappa's crazy impromptu version of Whipping Floss, a combo of Whipping Post and Montana. II also contains THE BEST version of Inca Roads - and Zappa's best guitar solo ever.
  16. Pace yourself! Happy Birthday!
  17. There's soooo many good ones, but the irreverent and outrageous 60's albums for the most part, don't click with me. They may be a little too locked in 60's satire for my tastes. Here's my Top 5: 1. Over-Nite Sensation/Apostrophe (tie) 2. You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore, Vol. II 3. Roxy & Elsewhere 4. Hot Rats 5. Chunga's Revenge
  18. I think I'll still be pimping Once (along with Lenny Breau, Donnie Darko, The Evil Dead, The Allman Brothers and Deadwood) until my dying day.

    Pita Pizzas

I made a nice pita pizza tonight: salami with some hot banana peppers and brick cheese in place of mozzarella and crushed black pepper. You can use any of the brand canned pizza sauces. Heat in a toaster oven on toast. Use a pan.
  20. Walk Hard has received generally good reviews. I'll bet that it has a decent run at the box-office. There's all kinds of similarities between all mockumentaries and there's only so far you can stretch music-based spoofs without falling into similar waters. This Is Spinal Tap was compared to The Rutles etc... I'll take Hard Core Logo over most music movies not named Once any day.
  21. And it looks like Sam Raimi will be directing the two Hobbit films after he completes his upcoming horror film.
  22. From today's Dark Horizon's website: Whilst Peter Jackson has been confirmed to be producing New Line's upcoming dual-films based on Tolkien's "The Hobbit", many fans have been left wondering if he or the often rumoured Sam Raimi would sit in the director's chair. Jackson's manager Ken Kamins tells Entertainment Weekly that "Peter won't be directing because he felt the fans have waited long enough for The Hobbit. It will take the better part of every day of the next four years to write, direct and produce two Hobbit films. Given his current obligations to both The Lovely Bones and Tintin, waiting for Peter, Fran, and Phillippa to write, direct and produce The Hobbit would require the fans wait even longer." No decision has been made says New Line's co-chair Robert Shaye - "There is obviously a small but significant number of directors who could handle two films of this magnitude, but we have no commitment to anybody. Now that Peter is an integral part of the decision-making process, we all have to see eye-to-eye on any candidate we try to enlist." The creative powers are expected to start planning the films in early 2008.

    fu ck you

I just found out what the demolition barricade was for on Danforth Avenue: Fuck Shoppers Drug Mart and their impending move to the corner of Broadview and Danforth. Say good-bye - in the not to distant future - to Wongs Photo, Riverdale Pharmacy and all competitive indie stores not to mention a half-block of nice buildings including the funeral home. I feel like crying for fuck sake! I think I'll go throw-up instead.
  24. I watched the loss in glorious HD, making the pain etched on the Leaf faces all that much clearer.
