  2. i'll have a listen Dave. no need to be so sad
  3. protecting the lead is one of the telltale signs- when they've gotten in front lately the play the possession game well and the cheekiness/creativity of de guzman and de rosario points to a technical ability unseen in the past. it's players off the ball that allow for that kind of thing to happen as much as the skill of the individual sorry to be missing the game on saturday...
  4. well it looks like Canada took a major leap in the FIFA world rankings up to #56 from 93 Details here, inlcuding history etc I must say that watching them over the last week has made me think that they're playing better than ever. I no longer watch them thinking that they don't seem like they're posing an attacking threat, get the feeling like anything's possible
  5. we've got a chicken caesar wrap in the cards for a meal in the next week- chicken marinated in a garlicky-citrusy concoction grilled on the bbq and added to a wrap with caesar salad, a bit of cheese and possibly tomato and red onion
  6. here's the jambands.ca million dollar idea- the blow up doll that squirts your choice of beer from her baps while you're doing your thang
  7. as for BradM i'm sure we've all made that assessment long ago
  8. your answer will help the rest of us determine whether to view you as an alkie or a pervert or a perverted alkie as the case may be we can see, for instance, that LJFH is a alkie who enjoys her share of autoeroticism which is why she finds herself at the booche and Douglas abode so often
  9. i dunno, my beer tits seem to be on the upswing
  10. i was just going to post this: http://www.jambands.ca/sanctuary/showtopic.php?tid/233500/ but this looks good too, it's the chicken farmers of Canada winning sandwich: Grilled Chicken with Cajun Mayonnaise Created by: Philippe Wettel, Westin Ottawa, 2001 Serves 6 - 1/2 cup (125 mL) Dijon mustard - 1/2 cup (125 mL) orange juice concentrate - 1/2 cup (125 mL) orange juice - 1 tablespoon (15 mL) fresh, minced gingerroot - 1 tablespoon (15 mL) Cajun spice blend - 6 tablespoons (100 mL) mayonnaise - Six 6-ounce (170-g) skinless, boneless chicken breasts - 6 bread rolls, cut in half lengthwise - Olive oil, for brushing - 12 lettuce leaves - 12 slices fresh tomato 1. In a food processor, mix the mustard, concentrated and ordinary orange juices with gingerroot and Cajun spice to make marinade. 2. Mix 4 tablespoons (65 mL) of the marinade with the mayonnaise to form a sauce. 3. Marinate the chicken in the remaining marinade from the food processor for 6 to 12 hours. (For convenience, it's easiest to enclose chicken with marinade in a resealable plastic freezer bag, refrigerated.) 4. Preheat barbecue on medium heat. Remove chicken from marinade (discard marinade) and grill breasts, with the barbecue lid closed, about 8 to 10 minutes on each side, or until juices run clear when meat is gently pressed with a finger. 5. Brush rolls lightly with olive oil, then spread rolls with Cajun mayonnaise. Add the lettuce leaf, tomato slice and chicken breast. Serve immediately.
  11. marketing genius at its peak reminds me of booche telling Douglas, "I almost bought you flowers"
  12. that's why my allergies have been acting up
  13. TJHs were great, I thought. once they sorted the sound issues that is
  14. Looks like mattm got a small mention in the Citizen today (Saxberg): When Ottawa's beloved country-rockers the Fiftymen ventured into psychedelic musical territory during their meaty mainstage set at Westfest Sunday, eyebrows went up and heads spun at the unexpected shift in sound. We've always counted on the band to crank out uncomplicated country songs that go down easy, like a cold beer on a hot day. But on this beautiful night, there were textures and dynamics unlike any previous Fiftymen gig. More like the Sadies, come to think of it. The individual members of Fiftymen tend to be laid back, unassuming and perfectly content to keep the band going on a casual basis. However, on Sunday, they dug in as a unit, and took the responsibility of closing out Westfest pretty seriously. The music started with the crowd pleaser Whiskey and Lulu and ran through a series of Fiftymen staples before getting all weird on us. On a big stage with arena-rock sound levels in front of a crowd of 3,000 or so, it was a landmark performance for the lads, who appeared focused and well-rehearsed for the occasion. They were joined by special guest keyboardist Dave Draves (the noted Ottawa producer also played with his band, Camp Radio, earlier in the evening Sunday). In the crowd, people with sunburned faces warmed to the new material, and one dancing dude was inspired to step up the expressiveness of his wavy-armed, loose-hipped choreography. Still, the experimentation threw me for a loop. I nearly choked on a grilled shrimp and sprayed apricot beer all over my fellow VIPs in the VIP area, which was bustling with artists, media types, business owners and other lucky guests. That was the place to be throughout the weekend, by the way. With free beverages and free gourmet food by Dish Catering, the party had been going strong for three days by the time I arrived on closing night. Unfortunately, the only beer left by the time Fiftymen took the stage was the apricot concoction. Except for this minor quibble, artists sure appreciated the royal treatment. "We never get treated like this," confided Wakefield singer-songwriter Lindsay Ferguson, glass of white wine in hand. "It kinda makes it all worthwhile." Kathleen Edwards, the Ottawa native who headlined the festival on Saturday night, came back to hang out Sunday, and said it was her best experience playing in Ottawa. Ever. And Fiftymen singer J. J. Hardill obviously considered it an honour to close out a day-long program of all-Ottawa talent. "What a fantastic party these people throw," he said on stage, remarking on the "chi-chi" nature of Westboro to make the point that its increasing trendiness is putting it out of the reach of struggling artists. Rents are a lot more reasonable in Hintonburg, the working-class neighbourhood a little farther east along Wellington Street. "But thanks for inviting us uptown," J. J. said. Once I got over my initial surprise at his band's trippy new direction, I was able to relax. It's always nice to see a band you thought you knew stretch out. The two new songs in the set were I Always Get What I Want (It's Just Not Always What I Need) and That Look On Your Face, which J. J. says is the band's first "sexy" song. After the show, you should have seen him blush when producer Elaina Martin approached him backstage with an outburst of gratitude and a bear hug. "Thanks for doing this," she blustered. "I love you guys." Upon spotting Hammerheads singer Tim DeVries, who had snuck into the VIP area, she declared more love for the legendary Ottawa party band, and promised them the closing-out slot next year. Sounds like a great idea, but may I suggest booking a dancing band like Hammerheads on Saturday night. Towards the back of the crowd, some fans felt that a stripped-down, folkie set like Edwards performed might have been better suited for Sunday night, while a rocking-out Fiftymen would have livened up the crowd on Saturday night. Edwards played to a crowd of about 10,000 on Saturday. They have a point. And to add my two cents to the plan for next year, which marks Westfest's fifth anniversary: I hope they order a less fruity beer.
  15. anyway i thought De Rosario is the best player on the team right now and personally i feel more confident with Onstad in nets than Sutton but that may just be a familiarity issue. Robert Friend was awful last night, had an open net to shoot at (tightish angle but still doable) and instead elected to hold the ball up. Also was in on net and had to switch feet which gave the defender a chance to tackle. Gave the ball away cheaply a few times as well. Nakajima-Farran, on his 3rd cap played a great game- rarely gave the ball away made some great runs and made a really nice move in the penalty area that resulted in the PK. I thought Pozniak in a kind of holding midfielder role played well (I think he replaced Nash from the start), Attiba the Hun had plenty of possession and generally linked well through the midfield. Bernier did the job after he came on for De Guzman (who had a quietish game i thought). The centre half pairing were shakey at times, Andrew Hainault had a couple of bad brain farts that could have been costly and Hastings wasn't too accurate in his passing. Solid game from Stalteri and Jazik though.
  16. what!?!?!?!?! There are many things they don't do right! the back line is farcical at times, the midfield is spotty, they give possession away cheaply, don't communicate particularly well, the offside trap is shite, etc; Oh yes and by the way and they scored 2 goals last night MOBE, i'd back away slowly from this thread if i were you
