  1. well.. I was going to make my own thread but I'll just attach on to this one.

one of the bands I play in will be at The Rainbow on Thursday, for the three people who aren't going to Herbie :)

The band is called The Crowd (www.thecrowd.ca) and it's a 13 piece classic r&b band. We will be at The Rainbow (www.devant.com/rainbow) this Thursday, June 24th.

The Rainbow is trying to start a new policy (hopefully for just the Sunday to Thursday shows) of having the bands play from 9:00 until 11:30 so that audiences can see the whole show and still get home at a decent hour.

So, if Herbie isn't your scene or you just can't get in, come check us out.

And to add to the Jazzfest listing, The Shuffle Demons (www.shuffledemons.com) will be playing at 6:30 on Tuesday June 29th. I'll be there front row centre!

  2. Hey, thatpatguy, there sure are a lot of threes in your profile...check out your last post...you registered on 03/03/03, and have 33 posts. And your avatar is a clover. Did you do that on purpose? You must feel lucky today!

OK well keep me up to date on that extra ticket, however I would need more than one.

whoah crazy.. totally didn't see that.. cool..

I'll let you know about the ticket situation.. but I would be surprised if a couple didn't come around for sure.. I'm figuring a lot of people bought tickets before the finalized plans just to ensure they got them and knowing full well they would be easy to unload if they had to (which is exactly what I did).

I'm totally looking forward to the show.. it will be my first though I've been big time into them since about 95

  3. They didn't necessarily endorse the party, but they reviewed the platforms of all the majors and came out endorsing the environmental promises made by the NDP.

I don't know if you were at that screening of The Corporation that Broadbent had as part of Mayfest, but I loved he outlined a plan to hold Canadian companies accountable for environmental (as well as other) acts regardless of what country those acts are commited in. Also, I really like the idea of offering tax incentives to companies that increase their sustainability.

To me that makes a lot of sense. Being left I don't agree with (or see the point) of all these tax breaks for large companies that, as far as I'm concerned, can afford to pay higher taxes. But money talks right, so if you take away those, unearned tax breaks, but then offer breaks for companies that go green (or greener at any rate) then that incentive should really be tempting.

I dunno.. maybe I'm talking out of my ass.. it's 2:00 pm on a Friday and my blood alcohol level is currently 0.. that's sad

  4. ...but he hasn't leveled himself out for a federal platform it seems unlikely that...right now...he's ready to take the reigns.

I think the only real way for the NDP to get ready to take over the reigns is to act as the official opposition for a term or two. As much as the NDP is getting my vote I agree, they aren't ready.

and just for the sake of saying it.. my dream government.. NDP minority with the Greens as the official opposition... mmmm.. left

  5. hey man congrats..

if me and the wife ever go down that road I've already warned her that I'm going to be chaising her around with headphones to put on her belly with James Brown a blasting.. it's never too early to show them the funk.

  6. Harper's shadow cabinet has Stockwell Day on Foreign Affairs.

Think about that for a second!

Let's not make that shadow cabinet the real deal!

hmm.. I wonder what my barcode tatoo will look like.. or do you think they'll just go straight for the microchips and retnal scans?

  7. man.. too bad I missed the bulk of that discussion.. I would have enjoyed that :)

just one more thing I guess.. I don't think this was brought up but if it was and I missed I'm sorry for repeating it.

just one comment on strategic voting and how it can go horribly wrong.

lets say you live in a riding and you think candidate A is going to win by a land slide, AND, that was the candidate you were going to vote for anyway. So you decide, ok, that's cool, I've always wanted to give some support to this other smaller party and I guess this is my chance or, maybe I'll send a vote to this party as a protest.. why not.. I mean candidate A is going to win anyway..

but what if enough people share this thought? then candidate A, who looked like a winner, loses because a pile of votes have now left them.

I dunno.. just a thought.. but that's why I don't vote strategically (I only did it once.. when Mike Harris was running for his second term in Ontario.. and I felt bad afterwards).

  8. yeah.. that is one of many major flaws in democracy.. but that's a discussion for another forum all together :)

I find the CBC has a good website that can bring you up to speed with the parties and their platforms pretty quickly. The URL is www.cbc.ca/canadavotes

It's my understanding that in Canada we should be voting soley for our MP for that is our voice in the house of commons. Though that isn't really true so much since MPs have to vote on party lines, it's still a half decent way to approach who you are going to vote for.

Look at your local candidates and try and figure out which one you would want representing your values in the government.

I believe that if more people did that then we would see more minority governments and I think those are the best because they can't just pass any bill through the house that they want.

I, myself, will be voting NDP because I find they have the best platform to go along with my personal beliefs on how the country should be run. Also, Ed Broadbent is my candidate, and I think he kicks ass, regardless of which party he belongs to.

It's scary that the conservatives have really come back from behind, but I'm not going to let it decide who I'm going to vote for.. call me naive but I'm still going to vote the way the system was supposed to work.

ok.. I'll get off my soapbox now.. I tend to ramble on

  9. I know he adds tons of fun to Muffin, and he has appeared with them recently, so I guess things aren't too bad between him and them.

Pope always got along with everyone.. he wasn't really involved with the fallout.. especially because he has always had hiw own thing on the side..

and it's been a few years since I've played with (or seen) raggamuffin, so maybe everyone has kissed and made up.. I dunno

  10. the big hype around gmail is the amount of storage space you get and how the emails are presented to you. Since it's good it's all web based (like hotmail or yahoo) but it's search able and displays in a different (from what I understand).

I think the biggest thing is the storage space though (I think it's a gig!).. also.. it's brand now so all the choice names have yet to be snatched up.

  11. is Popo still playing with Raggamuffin?

I used to play with them back when they had the regular gig at The Whipping Post and The Upstairs Club.. then there was a big fallout with half the band just as they moved over to Babylon and that's when I left.

I'm really happy for Pope that he's out there and making a good name for himself now though. He's a great guy, super nice, killer guitar player, and really down to earth.

  12. I was in Toronto last summer to check out the greendale show and then stuck around to see the film premier at the Toronto Film Festival.

The show was great, the movie was great, but what I loved was just seeing Neil and the boys.. I always love the attitude they seem to carry themselves with. Just regular guys, Neil and Crazy Horse. Who cares if they are responsible for some of the biggest songs around. Who cares if Neil is arguably one of the biggest influences in rock music.

It's like Neil has this attitude of "hey.. I'm a musician.. you are a lawyer.. and you are a retail clerk.. we all have jobs, none of them make any of us better than anyone else".. Know what I mean?

I just find that really refreshing.

After the movie we ran into Tim Horton's to get a drink before hopping on the subway to get back to my sister's house and there in line was Crazy Horse.

I wanted to go up and say thanks for the great show the other night, but I also didn't want to be that guy. I'm sure they appreciate being able to walk into a Tim's in downtown Toronto and pretty much have no one recognize them.

Anyway.. very cool you ran into Neil and very cool that you talked to him.. he seems like a really down to earth guy (possibly even quite shy).
