I like record runner because it was the first place to seriously carry p-funk records.. if it wasn't for record runner I never would have been getting up for the downstroke back in 92
I've found some good stuff in CD Exchange as well.. and I agree.. support the little guy.. but as long as I'm supporting locally owned I'm happy
I try to stay away from HMV, that top 40 shop whose name is escaping me right now, and the box electronic stores (though I did buy Undermind at Best Buy.. but it was the only place I could find it with the DVD (mind you, I didn't check Compact Music)
who remembers Shake Records? I loved that place.. they always had the freakiest stuff in there

oh I knew what you meant.. the Horny - Hornsby thing was strictly a coincidence..
and you are welcome to any of the shows I have.. I have a partial list at http://db.etree.org/thatpatguy
but I'll apologize in advance that I haven't put in much info on the shows yet.. I'm so lazy...

Pat, I would check out Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer - Music For Two. I am postive they have it (saw it there a few days ago at the Bank St store). It is a live show with a DVD.
Picture the opposite of horny, but it makes you horny.
maybe I will.. I'm always hip to recommendations..
I've been diggin on this Bruce Hornsby/Bela Fleck show I just got.. great gig.. great sound quality

The 70s had some classics, my favorites (I think they were both done by Quincy Jones) were Sanford & Son and Fat Albert & The Cosby Kids.
I believe Herbie Hancock did Fat Albert.. that would be a good one to look up.
and did anyone say the theme from Starsky and Hutch? aka Gotcha!
killer track, with killer old analogue synths.. super funky!

it's been ages since I've been in compact music.. and the last I remember I found it really hard to find something there..
are they really a great shop for jammy music?
usually I hit up record runner

fancy yourself an Aretha? a Janis? a Diana?
Well.. The Crowd, a 12 piece roots r&b/soul band here in Ottawa, is looking for a strong female vocalist.
Previous band/stage experience is always beneficial, but when the lights go down, it's all about the voice.
If you have any interest in singing with us please send an email to Murray Kinsley at murray@thecrowd.ca

Was working but saw about 10 minutes. Loved it. The biggest learnin' I did this weekend was that bands must no longer be fronted by guitars. They must be fronted by a hron section!
HEAR HEAR!!!

if you want to come by the mainstage at noon, the r&b/soul band I play in, The Crowd, will be doing our set..
we are on from 12:15 until 1:00.. here's hoping for some nice weather (last year is pissed rain for our set)
-

are you having a metal breakdown
I'm always having a METAL breakdown
YEEEEAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! <-- screamed all high pitched like Dio!

did anyone mention The Meters
No brothers in the Meters...
ad
sorry.. I thought brother Cyrill joined the band in the mid 70s.. I guess I was wrong
-
The Marsalis Family CD is excellent. Even though they don't play regularly (or ever for that matter), the combination of these brothers and father resulted in some epic jazz.
too bad they all hate each other
did anyone mention The Meters or the Neville Brothers?
-
ok.. who is going to post the roll call?
ROLL CALL: fu@k up Paul Jay's sh!t
-
oh.. and the Brecker Brothers
-
Bootsy's Rubber Band
The Houseguests
both with William "Bootsy" Collins and Phelps "Catfish" Collins
and Sly and The Family Stone had Sly Stewart and his brother Freddie Stewart
-
Let's lynch him!!
YEAH!! LET'S GET HIM!!
oh wait.. you weren't being serious were you..
-
''They seem to be able to do a lot with two chords,'' said Mr. Jay, who was clearly unimpressed with the group's musicianship.
I wonder if he would have the same critique of James Brown, Miles Davis, or The Ramones?

All I wanna do is to thank you
even though I don't know who you are
You let me change lanes
while I was driving in my car. . .
Whoever you are
I wanna thank you who...
Now all I wanna do is to exit
So I go to where I can get off
On a curve, through the shoulder
There's no parking in that trough
So I drive around all day
Coming atmospheric haze
Till I wanna get on again
Then, all I have to say is
All I wanna do is to thank you
Even though I don't know who you are
You let me change lanes
While I was driving in my car. . .
Whoever you are
I wanna thank you who...
All I wanna do is to tune in
Radio L.A. Lujah
'Cause we're broadcasting live
And we wanna hear all of ya
On the mic is Geggy Tah
But a whole lot more of all of ya
Let us hear ya, let us hear ya
In a big echoing holla
All I wanna do is to thank you
Even though I don't know who you are
You let me change lanes
While I was driving in my car
Whoever you are
I wanna thank you who...

VH1.com has that Jamband station (http://www.vh1.com/music/radio/stations/jambands/station.jhtml).. but I think you need the windoze media player to use it.. I could be wrong..
oh.. and the play list can get a bit repetitive
if you are into indie-rock there is the indie rock station here: www.somafm.com
and I like to check out the live shows here: www.justconcerts.ca
