    Forgiveness

    Beer. Aloha, Brad
  2. Have you considered becoming a free-lance hugger? {{{{{Large Marge}}}}} Aloha, Brad
  3. It sounds like a song that would have been part of a "Friends" episode. (Would you mind if I took a crack at trying to write music to back that up? It might require me to alter/amend the lyrics a bit.) Edit to add: Did you see that episode of "Murphy Brown" where she was in the hospital just after the birth of her child? She made some comment about her new lactating abilities being like she "could get bacon from [her] elbow". Aloha, Brad
  4. My best guess is several hundred; I'll try to count them tonight. Aloha, Brad

    Forgiveness

That's probably me. I need to change my socks. I apologize. Do you forgive me? Aloha, Brad
  7. I'll be in Toronto next weekend (Dec. 1 - 5), and will be lodged at King St. W. and Bathurst. I'm trying to figure out where I and my family can go for a nice dinner on Saturday night, and am wondering about Gypso Co-op. The menu looks good (albeit a bit pricy and up-scale, but that's OK), and it'll give me the opportunity to check the place out and figure out the best way to record Mr. Something Something there later that night. Has anybody had dinner there? What's it like? Would I need to make a reservation for three people who want to sit down around, say, 5:30pm? Aloha, Brad
  8. I checked into the scanners that were available from FutureShop, and found that the basic ones (that cost less than, say, a few hundred dollars) all have a maximum scan size of 8.5" x 11". For the bigger posters that I have, this either means I wouldn't be able to scan them, or would have to scan them in sections, and somehow "merge" the scans into a bigger image. Does anybody know of any (ideally free) applications that can do this? (I figure the sections will have some overlap with each other, rather than having clean cuts between them.) Aloha, Brad
  9. Happy Day, sh!tidiot! Aloha, Brad
  10. I was thinking of that, and realized what I really need/want to do is get a scanner (that'll be big enough to handle most of them; 8.5" x 17" at least, maybe 11" x 17") and scan them all. (Does anybody have any recommendations as to scanners?) The problem with using a camera is that I'd really need something like a sheet of glass to put the posters under, to help flatten out the rolled/folded ones, and would also need a good camera with the right kind of tripod/mount. I have a digital camera, but it's small & cheezy, and probably wouldn't work well. Ultimately, what I'd like to do is create some kind of compendium of them, indexed by {year/month/day} / {venue} / {band}, with links to any recordings that exist of that show. (I think the Live Music Archive now supports including pictures with uploaded shows, and you can even have one picture tagged as the graphic to be displayed on the show's web page. I may try that in the near future.) Aloha, Brad
  11. I wish I could be there, just to get a tour t-shirt with one date printed on the back... Aloha, Brad
  12. Does this count as THB's first "tour"? Aloha, Brad
  13. (The above quote was taken from The Death Of The Hired Man.) Aloha, Brad
  14. [color:purple]Please, won't someone think of the groundhogs, moles, and earthworms? Aloha, Brad
  15. I've got Phil Lesh and Friends 2003-12-03 (from The Beacon Theatre in NYC) going right now. That week, I saw moe., Lynch, Phish, RAQ, Phil Lesh, and Bill Frisell (and came this close to seeing a Dr. Huxtable / Electric Meat set-blender, but I digress...), and I think the Phil Lesh show was the one that really got to me. Aloha, Brad
  16. I tend to categorize it more as "power-pop" in the vein of The Who in the late 1960s; The Golden Dogs have put on some of the best club rock'n'roll shows I've ever seen. I keep using the word "exuberant" to describe their music/show, because there isn't anything stronger. Aloha, Brad
  17. Toronto afro-beat band Mr. Something Something is playing at The Rainbow in Ottawa tonight (Friday, Nov. 24), and I'm planning on being there*. Anybody else in? Aloha, Brad * Yes, I realize Moses Mayes and Kobayashi are at Mavericks tonight, too, but as much as I want to do both, I can't. It was a very close call for me.
  18. Thanks, Rev! (And nice hyping of the LMA. ) Aloha, Brad
  19. Good. The levels are a little bit lower than a studio or professionally produced live track, but aside from that, there aren't any problems. It's a serious kick-you-upside the head performance, too. A direct link to the VBR-format track is http://www.archive.org/download/jmats2005-12-10.oktava.shnf/jmats2005-12-10d1t02_vbr.mp3 Aloha, Brad
  20. How about "Protester" from the James McKenty And The Spades 2005-12-10 show? http://www.archive.org/details/jmats2005-12-10.oktava.shnf The VBR MP3 would be the best-sounding version, unless you can handle SHNs. Aloha, Brad
  21. Thanks for the reminder, Rev, I haven't managed to tune in before. Aloha, Brad
  22. I don't know how funny it is, but I just spent the last hour organizing my collection of concert posters. I piled them up by year (2002 - 2006), and was glad I had my old day-timers nearby, as a lot of them had only day-of-week / month / day printed on them. I even found a flyer for a show (JSB @ The Bayou, 2002-01-15) that I hadn't written down anywhere. The good news is that I have a lot of posters/flyers. The bad news is that a lot of them aren't in great shape (torn, frayed, taped on the edges, folded). Does anybody in Ottawa work at or know an art gallery that needs an exhibition? It's going to require some serious wall space to display all of them...even the set of nero posters alone would be tough to put up somewhere... Aloha, Brad

    BEER!!

Have you tried the Scotch-Irish Sgt. Major IPA, ollie? IIRC, it's available at the LCBO at Rideau & King Edward, and if you like IPAs, it's wonderful. (Note to those who aren't familiar with the "IPA" style of beer: Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale is not representative of the style. A British or American IPA is maltier, and a lot more bitter, due to having a lot more hops.) Aloha, Brad
