  1. ...and Jeff Coffin jammed briefly (on the final song of the night) at the late night jazz jam at Traders in the Sheraton Hotel. Apparently Victor had walked in earlier in the night with his bass, but promptly left (someone told me that they don't have the setup for an electric bass rig there, and if he wanted to jam he would've had to play the upright, but I don't know enough about these things to know if this is true). Futureman was sitting by the door until the end of the night and, along with ourselves, was the last to leave. He told us that they were spending the day in Toronto and were quite possibly going to take in a movie as the director had invited them.

It seems that, apart from Sunday night after Scofield and Galactic, the late night jam has been getting interesting. Wynton Marsalis showed up at 2am after Tuesday's show and apparently played with his own band for awhile and then the other jam participants (including Jesse) until 4:30am. Wish I could've been there for that!!

  2. Happy birthday to my fellow Mama (except that I'm an imposter mama, since I'm not really a mama), and sorry I'm a day late, but I have no idea what happened to yesterday.

So, I heard an interesting theory on The Weather Network, that researchers speculate that people born in the warm months are actually happier people because their earliest memories are of being surrounded by people that are happy, as opposed to those born in the winter who are surrounded by folks that are depressed in the dark cold months...and if yourself and the other beautiful people celebrating birthdays around this timeperiod are any indication, maybe there's some truth to it :) I'm speculating that this is also the reason why we're celebrating so many birthdays during this time, because we, as a community, like to surround ourselves with happy people* ::

Hope you had a great day, and an even more fantastic weekend!

*No offence to those born in the winter months (I myself have a lousy winter birthday - always a blizzard if I make a plan :()

  3. Well, NewRider somehow went missing after the Galactic show...saw him stagger west on Queen, and that was the last I saw of him. Not only did I not even get the chance to give him his gift, I even tried to track him down in Jilly's, to no avail. I thought he might show up at the late night open jazz jam at the Sheraton, but perhaps the $6 beers put him off. Anyway, if anyone sees him, please send him onward to the next great party!

  4. This show's right up there on my list of priorities since Los Lobos don't come this way very often (and they're phenomenal), but I gotta make sure to get the night off work. As for the venue, if it's the outdoor stage, it's small and beautiful. If it's one of the indoor places, I'm not sure which one it would be...perhaps someone else could clarify.

  5. That "door" gig could get pretty silly tonight huh? Or maybe you'll get more "tips" than usual (in whatever shape or form they may take). Anyway, I gotta boot out to work now, but I wish I could be there for your party - have a great birthday Tooly (and hopefully see ya tomorrow out at Galactic)!

  6. God I wish I could, but I already have a little family of 3 and they're really territorial. Out of curiosity, what city are you located in cheesehead?

In the meantime, thanks for all you're doing for the little kitty, and hope your efforts are rewarded with a happy loving safe haven for her.

  7. Hey Del (and what happened to the "head"?...have you up and abandoned all us other "heads"? ;)) I was wondering where you'd gotten to Tuesday night too.

Unfortunately, unless CTMF moves to Deerhurst Resort (which I might add would be one hell of a party), I'm unable to attend, as my folks are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary that weekend at Deerhurst. I'm wishing I could clone myself to be two places at one time, but alas, that appears unlikely within the coming week.

And, once again, I'll be working on the weekend, so no Wassabi for me either :(.

Galactic, on the other hand, will be the weekend party blowout, what with birthdays to celebrate, beers to be drunk, and funk to release!! How about it? ::

  8. You were missed Esau :( (and so was the Spanish Moon we so wanted to hear...not that I would've been there in time for it anyway ::)

It was a great night of stellar music and fabulous friends, and I'm so glad that NewRider was there to carry on with me til long after dawn ::

Thank you everyone for making it a special night, including you Diesel Dog freaks, Briguy, Kenny, CB420, Dancin' Man, Rose Garland, and Ryan (even though I don't know who you are - hope you have fun in Indiana) ::

BTW Esau (and to anyone else to whom this applies), join me in a late celebration of 20 years since the life-altering experience of participating in our first Grateful Dead show (June 21st, 1984)...what a long strange trip it's been ::

  9. How's that saying go?..."miss a day, miss a lot?" or something along those lines. The only thread I had time to look at yesterday was the one about Little Feat's setlist, and then ran off to 2 jobs. Man, am I glad things didn't go according to plan, and it looks like you may get to stay relatively free after all. In fact, I remember a time when my brother was doing weekends so many years ago, and it got converted to community service (perhaps because the weekend jails were full), and one weekend while staying up all night partying, he actually phoned in sick to jail/place he was working. Not sure if that kind of thing still goes on, but regardless, what you're looking at sure beats the "30-days in the hole". Can hardly wait to party with you at Little Feat ::

And one more thing, it seems your "freaking out" was pretty justifiable. Not that it compares even remotely, but I get freaked when I have to go to Traffic Court, and I've only done it about a million times ;)

See ya soon buddy, and good luck on Friday (I'll be thinking about you).

  10. Hey, it's been a pleasure to meet you and see your smiling face out at the shows we both end up at (and I'm sure you make it to far more than me these days). I hope you have a stupendous birthday, and look forward to the day when we manage to have a long-winded conversation too ::

  11. I remember enquiring about getting Sex Mob at the Comfort Zone at one point, but for whatever reason it didn't happen. Now you got me wondering what the hell I did with that disc ;)

BTW, where's your party at tonight Esau?...Milton?...Hamilton?...both? (I'm racing somewhere after work ends...and you might just be the deciding factor ::)

  12. Hey Mark,

Just thought you might want to know, I similarly suffer from seasickness, but the first time the Caution Jam had a cruise, I couldn't miss it, so I took a 50mg Child's Chewable Gravol, and it seemed to do the trick. I guess an Adult Gravol would be suitable for most, but not knowing what else I might be indulging in, I opted for the kiddie dosage. Don't know what I would've done if it hadn't worked, and perhaps it just worked as some sort of placebo, but whatever the case, I haven't looked back since. Turns out, my sister was able to get her "sealegs" on a real cruise by wearing one of those patches.

Anyway, the Caution Jam Boat Cruise is a not-to-be-missed affair (such a party), but not only do I have a hell of a time catching the boat on time, I am scheduled to work tomorrow night. If you can make it, GO!!, you won't regret it ::

Then the all-night party at Ojibway Campground is lots of fun too ::

  13. I'd like to thank our Earth Mother for everything she's provided and putting up with all of our crap. Not that I partake all that often, but I'd also like to thank her for including amongst her many delights mind-altering substances, because without the altered perception provided early in life I, like most of the population, may have also believed that the life that society dictates as reality is in fact the truth without question. In other words, "question reality" ;)

  14. I'm with Esau and Kung on the Spanish Moon, Skin It Back (yeah), and Two Trains, and would like to add On Your Way Down, and New Delhi Freight Train. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have the night off from both jobs.

And Esau, you will be sorely missed at the show buddy...won't be the same gettin' down to Spanish Moon without you ;)
