Seems to me both Duane and Berry were killed in motorcycle accidents, almost at the exact same spot, on October 29, 1971 and November 11, 1972 respectively. I thought the "Eat A Peach" phrase came from something Duane said while eating a peach, "Eat A Peach For Peace" (but now I'm going to look into it again).
RIP Duane and Berry
Oh, just found the answer (and for the entire story go to this link) -
http://www.snopes.com/music/hidden/eatpeach.asp
The title is an allusion to a statement Duane Allman once made during a magazine interview:
The myth was that the band used the title because Duane had crashed into a peach truck when he died; in truth, it came from one of Duane's throwaway lines in an interview. "How are you helping the revolution?" Ellen Mandel of Good Times Magazine had asked him. "I'm hitting a lick for peace," Duane responded. "And every time I'm in Georgia, I eat a peach for peace."

Hey Trevor - hope you had a happy birthday...perhaps you made it to the John Fogerty show to celebrate...if you were so inclined Have a great day at the island ::
-
And with Brian Blade on drums...and I'm sure other stellar players whose names now escape me (though I think the bass player's name was familiar)
-
I didn't know it was your birthday KC - sorry I missed it, but wish I could've been there to give you some paddywacks too!!! Sounds like it was a rager ::

I once got caught doing 180 on Hwy 401
Way to go Ms. Hux...late for a show were you?
I also got nabbed outside of Brockville on my way to Ottawa in the middle of the night doing 160 (and I think the ticketed speed was dropped to the point of no demerit points)...unfortunately, I just put in an application to work at a company where a clean driver's abstract is a necessity...guess I'm screwed

December 4th is the same night as the MMW & Duo afterparty in TO though...still ouch
-
Hey, if ya run into a lovely kynd woman named Tracy and her probably 8-year old daughter Kachina, please tell them Karen sends her love and misses them dearly :: Thanks a bunch, and glad to hear you guys are enjoying Chico as much as she seems to ::
-
Apparently, this is the opener for moe. on Tuesday at the Opera House, as per the House of Blues newsletter I received yesterday. For me, this is probably a godsend, since I'm not likely to get to the show on time anyway...so, whoever they are, I'm not likely to see them anyway...unless of course, someone says they are not-to-be-missed, and then I still might ::
-
Awesome Del - glad to hear you're doin' good ::
-
I'd probably take shitidiot's first top 5, but remove "Live at Leeds", not because I don't love it, but because I love "Ten Years After - Recorded Live" more ::
-
Ah, my mistake...so sorry So Mike, did you enjoy the show as much as Andre? Also, those were some pretty sweet photos (at least the ones I could see on my piece of crap computer).
-
Footnote - My wallpaper is a photo of Woody taken from The Comfort Zone show 07/31/00, and has been the same since they were posted on mulezone.com shortly after the show (not sure if they're still there somewhere or not, but I haven't been able to find them recently)
-
Nice review Mike - it seems you're becoming a hardcore Mulehead yourself.
A couple quotes -
"This is not the Mule of old, which may take some of the hard-core members a while to appreciate, if they will be able to at all."
In speaking with many of the oldest (as in been there since the beginning) Muleheads I know, the response is unanimous in that the impact of the loss of Woody is huge, and he is dearly missed and irreplaceable, but that this evolution of the band is a welcome surprise and seems tighter than any configuration of the Mule in the past four years since Woody's demise.
"The tempo changes alone would have lost most musicians and the Mule proved they are not to be reckoned with when they are on their game."
A great line, but as far as I can tell, even a weaker Mule show is significantly tighter and more inspired than almost any other show I've attended, but that's just me. ::
Can hardly wait for the next one! ::
In case you still want to know what was being said -
Mr. Man -
(Off Deja Voodoo, written by Warren Haynes)
How much more can we ignore the voices
How much longer can we keep our heads in the sand
Can't you hear me - don't you even hear me
I'm screaming as loud as I can
Can't you hear me, Mr. Man
There's no concern for the people dying
There's more concern for keeping the upper hand
In their faces - we're laughing in their faces
And you still don't understand
Why they hate you, Mr. Man
You better get ready
I said ready
Time to get ready
Can you see that day when your world starts crumbling
Can you see that day when you meet your maker again
Will he be like you - do you think he's really like you
You can bet your soul depends
On that, Mr. Man
It's time to get ready
I said ready
You better get ready

This is despicable :: Every Halloween I fear for the fate of stray cats and basically any animals outside having to defend themselves against possible troublemakers and unnecessary mischief, or worse. My neighbour just told me about someone she knows with a farm who has sheep go missing every Halloween...this makes me so sad
-
Just want to confirm that you've done your mandatory reading of "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe ::
-
A little too obvious perhaps, but it seems I tend to alternate between Tom Robbins and Kurt Vonnegut, and just started reading "Galapagos" a couple days ago. So far, it's written from a million years in the future about a swindler taking a cruise to the Galapagos Islands in 1986, but having read a couple Vonnegut books previously, I'm thinking it may change course drastically. I'm sure one or two people can vouch for me here if I say that Vonnegut is always a fun read!

Fabulous to have met you sister, and I hope you have/had an even more fabulous birthday weekend ::
-
Sorry I missed you bouche, and booche for that matter, but I remember thinking you guys were probably jammed in up close, whereas I was navigating the perimeter all night, remaining particularly close to the back bar (to get the central sound...if ya know what I mean, wink wink nudge nudge ).
And if you're referring to the guy that was at MMW with me when I met you at the NAC, he's from Ottawa and for a while I was frequently visiting him and your fine city.
Hopefully see you at nero this weekend in TO ::

"Lola Leave Your Light On – that riff, the drumming = classic Led Zeppelin!"
Hey ollie - were you referring to it having a Zep-influenced sound? Just curious, 'cause the liner notes in Deja Voodoo say written by Warren Haynes/Andy Hess/Jeff Anders.
Took me awhile to recuperate from the high of a seemingly annual Mule show, and the bittersweet afterglow, having a million reflective moments, and knowing that the excitement, anticipation and incredible climax are over for another lengthy period of time. Man, I love that Mule :: As for the quality of the show, compared to the many others I've seen, that one ranked probably in the top 5 for me, but I'm not sure whether it was the compounding factors of setlist, playing, venue, and friends. I absolutely loved it, from the kickass opening notes of 32/20 to the haunting final notes of New World Blues, the Mule have yet to disappoint.
As a footnote, having about 5 bartenders for 1130 heavy drinking Muleheads, might have added to the need to drink 2-fisted all night, which might have been partially to blame for me getting much more messed up than usual...so sorry to anyone I might have accidentally tripped over ::

I believe that the band after Tony was called Ollabelle...or at least that's what the sandwich board outside said...and yeah, I had forgotten how wonderful Tony Furtado was since the Comfort Zone show 4 years ago.
-
Wouldn't that be sweet - probably depends on whether they're in town for the night, if he's into it, and whether I even make it to the show (and of course if he remembers me )
Also, I just checked this website for details on DST (look about 3/4 of the way down the page and Toronto's listed...not that you can believe everything you read online) -
-
Okay, so is it daylight savings time "fall back" changeover day on Saturday night?...and, if so, does that mean the show goes until 4am and we get to order drinks until 3am (since 2am suddenly becomes 1am again)? :: (and, if so, hopefully the El Mo is prepared with scheduled bar staff and all that) What do you think Jay...(just hopeful over here)
-
I was told by the promoter "they're scheduled to go on at 8, but that probably means 8:30," so take what you will from that...see ya there! ::
A question for the touring folk...

Mule on NYE...man I'm jealous!!
Last time I flew down to NYC for the One For Woody show 09/00, we flew JetBlue (jetblueairways.com) out of Buffalo for US$47 each way, plus about $10 tax into JFK, then took the $10 bus into the Port Authority. Took the first flight out the following morning, so spent nothing on accommodation, but friends were staying at the Carter Hotel right by Times Square, and told us that the rate is always US$90. It was a bit shabby, but hey, what do you want for central Manhattan (just take a mattress cover). Jet Blue's flights do continue to increase in price until they're sold out, so it's likely there's nothing left anyway.
But, another time, when seeing the Disco Biscuit's apparently final show at the Wetlands, we stayed at a hostel just the other side of I think the Holland Tunnel in Jersey for a very reasonable rate, and we had a private clean room. Don't remember the number or how we found it, but perhaps if the cousin's place doesn't work out, you can find it online...or book it and cancel later just to be on the safe side.
Another time, Jerry Band show, MSG 1991, we stayed at the Southgate Towers in Manhattan kittycorner from MSG. Gorgeous place, and it only cost US$89 with my CAA discount...but that was 1991, so I bet the price has gone up. It's possible, if you look hard, you may find a bargain on hotels.com or something.
