We have a piano/keyboard player who will be making his home in Hamilton as of September, haven't mentioned anything to him yet...
Hey...are we talking about the same keyboard player that's expressed interest in playing for Rose Garland when he gets to Hamilton this September? Don't make me arm wrestle...

It sure does make sense! I was one of the multitudes that would cheer Bobby just a little harder when he'd mess up the lyrics to Truckin' or Jack Straw; not just to tease him a little, but to say, "right on, I'm there with you, I feel for ya", 'cause I know that I'd blow them even worse if I was up there!

Mmmmmm.... beer....!

Hey Snail, sorry to hear about your predicament, but I'm sure that it'll all work out in the end.
One story in favour of Steve's:
Recently I found myself in dire need of a new bass cabinet; after doing some research, I decided to go with a particular model of Ampeg. The problem was, I couldn't find the model I was looking for anywhere in Ontario. Steve's said that they'd overnight what I was looking for from Montreal, promising that it would be in the Toronto store the next day for me to try out. It was, and they knocked 50 bucks off of the price that L$M quoted me (score!). The salesperson helped me haul the thing out to my car, where I noticed a 30 dollar parking ticket on the windshield. To my amazement, the sales guy zipped back in the sore and soon emerged with 30 bucks for me to pay the ticket with! How cool was that?
That said, I've dealt with a number of pricks there, too; and the place is wayyy to inconvenient for me to get to (I usually frequent L&M in Burlington)

Might be the thing to do this evening!

Hey Dancin' Man, what's the quickest way for me to get a hold of you? Can you pm your number to me?
-
In theory, if the mix (source) that they're releasing is different that what's already circulating, then what's on archive.org should still be cool to download.
-
Check your private messages, Dancin' Man... sounds like a great way to celebrate our nation's birthday!

Cool! Consider your resume on the top of the pile. Stay in touch and let us know when you get in town, and we'll be sure to set up a jam.
Anyone else interested in playing some Dead on the keys with Rose Garland (or knows someone that might be right for the job)? We pay well...
Chuck
p.s.: Hey Tim, I hear that you've been dabbling on the piano. Get to work on that Slipknot...
-
...who are into the Dead? Are you from the Hamilton/Niagara region? Do you have your own equipment and reliable transportation? Do you like playing in front of kind, dancing folk? If so...let's jam! Simply reply to this post or drop me a line at ez2slp@hotmail.com, and let's have some fun!

Thanks for the well wishes, Tim! As a matter of fact, the evening was a rip-roaring success! We managed to shove a couple hundred bodies into the Boatahouse, and while I don't have a final total, I know that our eventual donation to the Canadian Cancer Society will be in the thousands! It was especially fun being the backing band while the hairdressers did their thing out in front of us, and to see some very obvious non-heads dance the night away! Methinks that we'll have to do this again very soon and scale it up a notch (what are Harvard Mouse and Diesel Dog up to? )
As for the music, here's how it went down:
Set One (acoustic):
Cumberland Blues
Jack-A-Roe
Playing In The Band >
China Doll >
Playing In The Band >
Ripple
Set Two:
Jack Straw
Greatest Story Ever Told
Loser
Easy Wind
Brown-Eyed Women
Uncle John's Band >
Wharf Rat >
Uncle John's Band
One More Saturday Night
Set Three:

Eyes Of The World >
The Other One >

Encore:

A special thanks to everyone involved in the planning and execution of the event, to opening artists Jesse Reid and Aura June for donating their time and talents, to everyone who made it out to the Boathouse last night, and especially to each and every one of you that made a donation to a very worthwhile cause! To you, a heartfelt "thanks".

Sorry for the short notice, but I've been having problems posting images since the forum makeover. Here's the link to the poster:

Hope to see lots of kind faces donating their nickels, dimes and quarters for a worthy cause that's hit far too close to home for a number of us lately...

...maybe a surprise or two in store as well...

Damn...sounded like a good one! And me at home doing the laundry...

Any room for a Rose Garland acoustic set?

I've got to start dating younger. And me with a high school straight across from my office window...

It's just one more thing to deal with if you're in a hurry to Bangher and Leever.

what about slang for underwear? It wasn't until I hooked up with Dave that I first heard the term "skivvies" -- I think that's defintiely a SW Ontscario thang. I've also heard "gotchies"
What's underwear?

One evening, it was a huge show and we were rocking out big time. When that huge last chord came, I raised my bass triumphantly in the air and came down with the headstock HARD on our conga player's head. It really hurt him and everybody saw it!!
On the brighter side, I'll bet that you're now the one that gets the most square-footage of stage to call your own.
-
Never mind the wigs and the leather pants, I'd think that the most embarassing part of the night would be playing "Here I Go Again."
-
A most definite possibility! Say, is there a cover charge involved? And I'm assuming that this will be upstairs?
-
I can only jam in the key of "A"... is that cool? Would I still be welcome? What happens if I'm thrown on stage with a bunch of folks that hate jamming in "A"? Could be fun...
Sorry, that too was the scotch talking...
the Cover Band is looking for...

Trust me, it's not something that you want to be messing with. Always know EVERYTHING about the folks in your vehicle; you're responsible for them and anything that they've done in the past, whether you willingly know it, or in my case, are blissfully unaware.
This was back in 1991, and it took almost 6 months for me to get my name cleared and car back. I had to go for two interviews with U.S. Customs (guess I wasn't convincing enough on the first one) and even after they found me clear of any wrongdoing, I still had to pay about $1000 Canadian for "administrative fees"; as the lady on the phone explaine it to me, it was to cover "stationary, postage, paper clips... that sort of thing". Sheesh...
The good thing was that the U.S. Marshals stored my car indoors (I had only had it for about a week), took it for a spin around the parking garage once a week to keep everything nice and lubricated, and even washed it before handing it back over to me! To this day, they still look at me suspiciously when I try to cross (haven't been refused, though) and about half of the time I'm guaranteed to have Customs run my credentials, which is probably just their way of letting me know that they're still keeping an eye on me. That said, I'd probably do it all over again...I mean, you would too if you had seen the bikini that my friend had packed for Florida...
