1973 - A crowd of 600,000 gathers for a rock festival at Watkins Glen Raceway, N.Y., to hear the Grateful Dead, the Band and the Allman Brothers Band.

Organizer Bill Graham thought that 150,000 would show up and they got four times the amount. While the Band wanted to do a soundcheck there was already 250,000 people in attendance Graham yelled to Levon Helm, "What the fu©k do you want me to do? Ask 'em to move?"

Everytime I talk to co-workers that are going to a NASCAR race at Watkins Glen I always tell them about it being the site of the largest one day concert in history.
