who knows anything about clavinets?

well... your best bet would be an actual Hohner clavinet of course. Any clav sounds I've heard on other keyborads just aren't the same as the real deal. They're completely worth the investment into one.... however.... if you take a synth clav sound and add a phaser or a wah or drive to it... it'll do just fine. It's just that clean clav sound of hammers hitting strings that's missing

I agree with 'ersh. However gigging with a Clav can be tricky.

'ersh also mentioned to put a phaser or a wah sound on any clav sound to get it sounding funky. I agree. In a pinch, I have even done this with a Harpsichord sound to great success.

I used to get a halfway decent clav sound by mixing a harpsichord sound as Phred suggest with a bit of a sharp electric piano sound like a Wurlitzer for attack and body, and then slightly overdriving and dynamic filtering (or wah'ing) that. It's close in a pinch, you'll have to play to get it right. I used to use the sound at the begining of "Trampled Underfoot" by Zep as a reference, personally.

A buddy of mine has the real deal, it's pretty sweet! [smile]

Peace,

Mr. M.
