StoneMtn
I just read this on another board: from Charlie Miller on BUDD: "Rob called me yesterday to tell me about this. I am going to start a fund drive for Betty... Garcia Estate and Betty Cantor Jackson! Good Afternoon all........... I've decided in protest of the treatment Betty Cantor Jackson is receiving from Garcia's Estate that I would start releasing the vast amount of Garcia Master tapes I have in my collection. I spoke with the Estate's CEO last year and asked why they were NOT compensating her for CD's they are releasing that she recorded? As an engineer myself I find it irresponsible that with all the money generated with each of these releases they are unwilling to take care of the people who made it happen. When I spoke with Chris last fall he assured me they had planed on sending her a check for each release they use of hers. As I later found out from her they as insisting she was already paid because she was on GD payroll at the time. She also paid for all the tape stock and reels from her own pocket. This in my professional opinion this is a cop out on the part of the Garcia Estate. She was not paid to make a "commercial" product because if she was she would have been paid accordingly. To use the excuse of "she was on payroll so we don't need to pay her now" is ludicrous. Now they are releasing her recordings and using her name, it's only fair she be compensated for such. I encourage all to write the estate's CEO Christopher Sabec at cjsabec@jerrygarcia.com and voice outrage about this. In the meantime I'm going to stop protecting and start releasing the Garcia Master' s I have in my collection as my way of protesting the Garcia Estate's continued abuse in this matter. With the help of Charlie Miller you will start seeing perviously unreleased Garcia master's up for FREE trade. We are also going to try to raise money for Betty as a thanks for all she has done for our community. If the Garcia Estate won't take care of her maybe we can! She is living a VERY modest lifestyle. Thanks for listening and all I ask in return for releasing these shows is to help voice outrage and help Betty. Peace to all! I am proud to announce a fundraiser for Betty Cantor-Jackson for all of the hard work she has done. She never hot paid for ANY of the GD/JGB releases made from her recordings. She is in need of cash to be able to live. Lets help Betty out by thanking her for all of the Betty-boards we've enjoyed over the years. If you want to help, please send a Check or Money Order made out to "Betty Cantor-Jackson". You can send the checks to me and I will give them to her after I collect them all. Having been a homeless person for many years, I enjoy helping those in need. Does anyone remember the Gans Dat Deck fund drive from last year? My first computer CD burner came from a fund drive over in CDead. I'm just trying to help a sister in need. The music that Rob is circulating is going out to all, even if you don't donate. We're NOT selling the music. If TPTB want to harass me for circulating THIS show, then they haven't been paying attention the last 5 years"

timouse
Wow.For once, Deborah Koons isnt mentioned.indeed. i saw a bbc documentary on jerry called "you can't take it with you." she came of like such a black hearted bitch in it, always talking about "protecting the interests of the estate," and showing off all the stuff they're selling while railing on about million dollar annual sales.then someone told me about her documentary called "the future of food" where dk does apparently a bang-up job of presenting information on biotech and the food system, so i'm very torn. timouse
What is her stance on biotech? She's a bitch.agreed...but a well-informed bitch. she's very up on the dark side of biotech and fully advocates organic farm practice. on the flip side, she does seem to be quite the soul-less capatalist. all of her raving about "protecting the interests of the estate" and ensuring the survival of the estate (read - her) are very off-putting. back to the original point of this thread, good on folks for going around "the estate" and getting the music out there!
