Dissecting words

Was thinking about words today and how if we dissect them they may hold a "deeper" meaning;

For example;

Universe

Uni = One

Verse = Song

Therefore, Universe = One song

or

Conscience split up is Con & Science. To con is to deceive or cheat. And science, as we know, is based purely on facts/proof. Since our conscience is intangible, it is essentially cheating facts.

Anyone else have any others?

sin=without cere= wax

Back when the Romans and the Greeks used to exchange statues, some people used to try and trick each other and fill the statues with wax(much cheaper).

By the time the statues reached their final destinations, they would fall apart because the hot weather would melt the wax.

People then started to put signs on the statues:

Sin Cere (without wax)

Sin Cere came to mean without trickery, malice.

Tantamount

Tant=A small scarlet arachnid

Mount=To climb onto (a female) for copulation. Used of male animals

Therefore, Tantamount = Some sort of arachnid mating ritual?

You're right, they really DO have a deeper meaning

sect - a religious body, especially one that has separated from a larger denomination.

Thus, to disparage unorthodox groups and/or the views that be held within such groups.
