Homosexuality does none of those things. Homosexuality is nihilistic. It protects nothing, it defends nothing, it continues nothing, and it sustains nothing." (Hansard June 1, 1995)

Is there a statute of limitation on Ignorance?

Does the Liberal Party have anything recent to go on? Most of those quotes are from the 90s. I bet Joe Clark had some good quotes too.

Is there a statute of limitation on arrogance?

At least making sometimes despicable quotes and soundbites doesn't waste taxpayer money that could go to healthcare or education etc etc etc...

Plenty of Liberals have made plenty of ridiculous comments too. And plenty of ridiculous actions taboot.

Well since most people that work on elections are not paid by their parties and definately not paid by your tax money I would not worry about it. Yes 99% of people working on campaigns are volunteers and the rest woulsd be paid by the party through donations. Actually it is illegal to be paid by tax money while working on a campaign.

I know all that... Sorry, I was referring to Gomery, the gun registry, HRDC scandal, etc...

Somehow I don't think it is up to me. I hate the conservatives and what they value and I hope that people vote ANY way to stop them. Besides it is not over yet.

I hate the Conservatives too... I just thought from all your other posts that you were vociferously Pro-Liberal, and I get the impression you work for the Liberal Party.

The rest of the Liberal party is also mad at these scandals.

Oh well as long as they are "mad" that makes me feel so much better . How about another four years to fuck things up even more.

AD I honestly don't care who you vote for, and you're not insulting me personally by posting Barbados flags, if that is your intention.

The Reform/Alliance wing of the CPC has been muzzled, I was at a press conference the other day and witnessed the CP communication guy literally demanding no questions off "topic", and then shutting down the show - they are trying to keep people from speaking their minds a la the quotes above.

If there are Liberal quotes like the ones above, please back that up and let's see them.

And if those quotes are no longer relevant because they are from the 90's, then it would only be fair to disregard the sponsorship mess as well, as it occured in the late 90's as well.

Back to the shipbuilding industry, allow me to enlighten you.

International shipbuilding is exactly that, an international market with international rules.

To compete in that industry you either play by the same rules as your competitors or you lose/go out of business.

If you think the very few Canadian companies that do compete at that international level should shut down shop because of moral objections to flags of convenience, that is your view of business. In that vain, and by that moral standard there are numerous other markets and industries that you would take competitive Canadian companies out of. In addition the vast majority of Martin's old company is based in Canada and employs Canadians.

Paul Martin "the evil tax sheltering coal baron" has been used for years, and if that's the best you can come up with - I still feel pretty good about our boy.

i wasn't trying to insult you personally with the barbados flag, i don't think that would work and generally i don't insult people... and i do understand how the business works with flags of convenience and all... but i just find it a little hypocritical of martin to dress up like captain canada and criticize harper for being a pseudo-republican while martin operated a business the way he did. of course it was all by the book and fair and legal, but the appearance of the prime minister has got to be better than that, in my ideological mind.

as for the timelines of gomery and the PC quotes, sure the sponsorship scandal happened in the 90s, but it's just coming to light now and i don't think it's been effectively resolved. i mean i don't see any reason to trust the liberals at the moment. not that i like harper any more, but the liberal party might really benefit from losing this one so they can rebuild in opposition and really hear the people again about what is best for them, and not just best for the party.

that said, i have an NDP sign in my snowbank. but after Uncle Jack's shitty and stupid debate style / answers I think I'm in a serious pickle about who to vote for. I like Paul Dewar, but I don't want Jack to mistake my vote for Dewar as a vote for the Layton leadership of the NDP.

I'm very conflicted this election as to whether I should be voting for my MP or voting for the party as a whole.

I've never liked the idea of voting for a party as a whole because I always liked the idea that my MP was my voice in the house of commons.

As I've gotten older though I've realized two things. One, for the most part MPs just tow the party line, so even if you voice is a voice of disagreement with their party, chances are good they'll ignore your voice and vote with the party. Two, for the most part, my day to day life in my riding is not affected by who is representing me federaly, but rather who is representing me provincially and locally.

I think this election I'm going to be voting for a party as supposed to an MP (cuz don't get me started on my NDP choice in my riding.. good grief), but something about that mindset really rubs me the wrong way. Oh well.. it's only politics eh :)

Well, consider this: you're also a resident, not just of your federal riding, but of the country as a whole. If you feel that having a certain party (irrespective of the quality of your riding's MP) is important for the country as a whole, then vote for the party with a clear(er) conscience.

Aloha,

Brad
