Yes 99% of people working on campaigns are volunteers and the rest woulsd be paid by the party through donations. Actually it is illegal to be paid by tax money while working on a campaign.I know all that... In that vain, and by that moral standard there are numerous other markets and industries that you would take competitive Canadian companies out of. In addition the vast majority of Martin's old company is based in Canada and employs Canadians.Paul Martin "the evil tax sheltering coal baron" has been used for years, and if that's the best you can come up with - I still feel pretty good about our boy. AD Posted January 10, 2006 Report Share Posted January 10, 2006 i wasn't trying to insult you personally with the barbados flag, i don't think that would work and generally i don't insult people... and i do understand how the business works with flags of convenience and all... but i just find it a little hypocritical of martin to dress up like captain canada and criticize harper for being a pseudo-republican while martin operated a business the way he did. of course it was all by the book and fair and legal, but the appearance of the prime minister has got to be better than that, in my ideological mind.as for the timelines of gomery and the PC quotes, sure the sponsorship scandal happened in the 90s, but it's just coming to light now and i don't think it's been effectively resolved. i mean i don't see any reason to trust the liberals at the moment. not that i like harper any more, but the liberal party might really benefit from losing this one so they can rebuild in opposition and really hear the people again about what is best for them, and not just best for the party.that said, i have an NDP sign in my snowbank. but after Uncle Jack's shitty and stupid debate style / answers I think I'm in a serious pickle about who to vote for. thatpatguy Posted January 10, 2006 Report Share Posted January 10, 2006 I'm very conflicted this election as to whether I should be voting for my MP or voting for the party as a whole. I've never liked the idea of voting for a party as a whole because I always liked the idea that my MP was my voice in the house of commons. As I've gotten older though I've realized two things. One, for the most part MPs just tow the party line, so even if you voice is a voice of disagreement with their party, chances are good they'll ignore your voice and vote with the party. Two, for the most part, my day to day life in my riding is not affected by who is representing me federaly, but rather who is representing me provincially and locally. I think this election I'm going to be voting for a party as supposed to an MP (cuz don't get me started on my NDP choice in my riding.. good grief), but something about that mindset really rubs me the wrong way.
