Jaimoe
Ummm, here's some crappy dude named Coltrane with that hack McCoy Tyner on piano (soon to disgrace the Ottawa Jazzfest by being a headliner) and the sloppy rhythm section of Elvin Jones and Jimmy Garrison doing "Afro Blue":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ytz1ZKk9wXw&search=coltrane Edited March 24, 2006 by Guest
bradm
Here's the great Wes Montgomery with the Wynton Kelly Trio doing Wes's "Impressions". Fucking phenominal:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egMi4tEdqbg&search=coltrane That links to the John Coltrane Quartet doing "Naima", actually. And here's Coltrane with a smoking Eric Dolphy, Elvin Jones, Reggie Workman and McCoy Tyner doing Montgomery's "Impressions": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUzFbT5JT1M&search=mccoy%20tyner And I'd also disagree about it being Montgomery's "Impressions". IIRC from the liner notes to "Impressions" is actually a rework of Miles Davis' "So What" (Coltrane sped it up, and made it more of a call/answer thing). In fact, even early into the "classic" Coltrane quartet, Coltrane was still calling it "So What", and if you check http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:pl5h8q9mbtn4 the composer for "Impressions" is listed as Coltrane.
