paisley
It's official: Manitoba town gives plastic bags the bootgreat work... hope other towns follow suit (guess San Francisco actually started the ball rolling last month)95% of things you buy you don't need a bag for, the other 5% you can easily use boxes or re-usable bags forIt's estimated that a traditional plastic bag takes 1,000 years to dissolve. Jaimoe
Great idea. Well done indeed. I re-use plastic bags as much as possible and use those bins and cloth-based shopping bags. I can't believe it when I see how many people at the corner store bagging a can of diet coke or a chocolate bar.
phishtaper
in guelph, we have to sort garbage and use three different coloured bags. one grocery chain in town has switched to transparent green bags so we can use them for our compostables. i thought this was pretty cool of them. you also have to pay 5cents for each bag there, which really cuts down on waste, i think. it all helps. Ironically, some grocery stores charge you for bags. It's kind of a hidden cost that no one thinks about.
dancingbear
i think this is fantastic. addmitingly i probably forget to bring my bags with me aobut 70% of the time, so wish they would ban them here to!i think more towns should do this , and just say would you rather us ban bags or build a landfill in your community?
