Stanley Cup Champions - Anaheim DUCKS !!!!!

Kanada Kev

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to the Anahiem Ducks for an amazing Stanley Cup Championship win. They dominated their opponent on almost every level in order to hoist that Cup last night. They played with intensity, fire, passion and determination. They will be a force to be reckoned with for the next few seasons too, as they will have very few changes to their lineup for next year.

Way to go Ducks!!!!

yup, it sure looked that way. It's over, and those two are professionals. I'm sure that Neidermayer winning not just the Stanley Cup, but also the Conn Smythe, helped ease any tension as well :)

Best trophy in the world. Best sport in the world.

Congratulations Ducks ... a well deserved championship. ENJOY!

CP's report card look at every player in the Stanley Cup final

CHRIS JOHNSTON

June 7, 2007

(CP) - A final report card on players from the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators for their performance in the 2007 Stanley Cup final:

Anaheim Ducks

Forwards

Andy McDonald, A: Ducks leading goal-scorer came up big in first Stanley Cup final.

Samuel Pahlsson, A: Helped shut down Ottawa's Big Three and scored the winning goal in Game 2.

Ryan Getzlaf, A: This guy has superstar written all over him. Arguably the top Duck.

Rob Niedermayer, A-minus: Played important minutes. One of the best defensive forwards on the team.

Corey Perry, B-plus: Another key member of the Anaheim youth line, Perry played with a surprising amount of edge in this Stanley Cup.

Travis Moen, B-plus: Checking line winger broke tie late in Game 1 with winning goal and added two goals in the decisive Game 5.

Teemu Selanne, B: The Finnish Flash set up key winning goal in Game 4. He's finally reached the pinnacle of the sport.

Dustin Penner, B: Big Bulldog's only goal in the series put Anaheim up 3-1 in the series.

Todd Marchant, C: Veteran centre was one of the players coach Randy Carlyle could count on for a good shift when the big guns needed a rest.

Brad May, C: Some described the six minutes 20 seconds he played in Game 1 as the best of his career. He was especially tenacious on the forecheck.

Shawn Thornton, C-minus: Part of good fourth-line effort in opening game with May and Marchant.

Drew Miller, C-minus: Helped fill gap on top line in first two games before being scratched for the rest of the series.

Joe Motzko, no rating: Didn't play enough to make any impact.

Ryan Carter, no rating: Same as Motzko.

Chris Kunitz, no rating: played only parts of two games.

Defencemen

Scott Niedermayer, A: A fourth Stanley Cup ring for this veteran greybeard. Anaheim's most consistent blue-line performer.

Francois Beauchemin, B: Played big minutes for this championship team. Showed signs of fatigue at times.

Chris Pronger, B: Had as much impact in four games as most guys did in five. Still, he was fortunate suspension didn't hurt Ducks more.

Sean O'Donnell, B-minus: Solid and reliable.

Kent Huskins, C: Unheralded 28-year-old rookie held his own.

Ric Jackman, C-minus: Dressed for first four games of the final but didn't play very much.

Joe DiPenta, C-minus: Got into the lineup when Pronger was suspended for Game 4 and didn't make any big gaffes.

Goaltender

J.S. Giguere, B: Didn't have to be as good as 2003 final, but was still the difference in these close games. Proved he's at his best when it counts most.

“I'm sorry it wasn't your year this year, but it was a heck of a team. I had friends that flew in for games three and four and they were amazed with the energy on Elgin Street and in the rink. So I think the people of Ottawa should be really proud of their team. Get the party ready for sometime in July or early August or whenever it's going to be, Kanata, get ready!"- Sean O’Donnell - CBC

“I think we’ve been holding back on our emotions for the last couple of days. It’s kind of surreal at this point. You can’t really fathom that we got it done.†- Randy Carlyle - OC Register

“You always think this is your goal. When I came here, I didn’t know a lot about some of the young players. I didn’t know a lot about a lot of the players that were here. We just kept having fun, kept wanting to work hard for each other, listened to the coach most of the time. You don’t draw it up like this. You just stick your nose in there, look up now, and this is what happens.†- Scott Niedermayer - OC Register

“Our guys stepped up when they needed to, with guys making big plays all the time. That’s how it’s gone through the whole playoffs.†- Ryan Getzlaf - OC Register

“It makes you appreciate it a little bit more. It’s not easy to get to this point. I’m really exhausted right now, but we’re going to enjoy it and look forward to a good summer.†- J.S. Giguere - OC Register

“This is the best feeling I’ve ever had in my career. It’s probably the best feeling I’ll ever have in my career. I couldn’t have written anything up like this. I haven’t shed this many tears in a long time. I didn’t know if this was ever going to happen. I’ve watched Scott do it. I’ve been to the Finals twice. I don’t think people realize how much of an emotional and physical roller coaster these playoffs are. I think that’s why it was so emotional at the end.†- Rob Niedermayer - OC Register

“I’ve been waiting for this for such a long time. There were times I didn’t believe this was ever going to happen. To win it in front of our fans, I can’t think of a better way. It’s a dream come true for all of us. Somebody is going to have to wake me up.†- Teemu Selanne - OC Register

"I thought we could get here. We sat down after we lost to Edmonton last year and said what were we missing. What was the difference in that series? We felt if we could add one more elite defenseman and we made a list. We didn't know if we could go and get him or not. But as soon as we knew Chris Pronger was available, we turned over every stone to get him." - Ducks GM Brian Burke - LA Times

"To me, it's a much better feeling. It's definitely a different scenario (than in 1993). We're just really excited that we were able to get to this point." - J.S. Giguere - LA Times

"It's the biggest dream of my life, It's unbelievable. It's everything I hoped it would be. I'm so proud of my teammates. We made this happen as a team." - Teemu Selanne - LA Times

"I feel like I just got off a roller coaster. I'm happy, excited, just dizzy. It's been an unbelievable season.†- Sean O’Donnell - LA Times

"I didn't know what I was going to do (about handing off the Cup). I guess he's one of the assistant captains. Maybe not quite the seniority, but I figured I could use my rank as captain to make that decision." - Scott Niedermayer - LA Times

"Nobody deserves it more than Teemu. I told him that tonight," Joe DiPenta - LA Times

"Hockey is different than basketball or soccer, where you can just pick up a basketball or soccer ball and play You really need to have your parents involved and they have to dedicate some of their weekends, not just money. I wanted to call them right away and congratulate them and thank them and let them know they were such a big part of it." - Sean O’Donnell - LA Times

â€It's the highest accomplishment. Obviously I played for a number of years. I've been in the game professionally for 30 years and this is my first Stanley Cup. And I'm going to savor this for a few days anyways. We'll allow more than the 10-minute rule that we have.†- Randy Carlyle - NHL

â€We have a lot of guys in the room that were pretty hungry, When you play like Teemu (Selanne) has for 15 or 16 years, when you play 10, 12, 14 years and you haven't had a chance to do this, that puts something in your stomach, I think, that you can count on at this time of year. And I think our guys showed that.†- Scott Niedermayer - NHL

â€Obviously, we had to wait a long time for something unbelievable. And it really makes it even more special. To get the win in our own home building … I'm so proud of my teammates. We've been like brothers. And we have had one dream together, and that's why it's so special.†- Teemu Selanne - NHL

More from Sean O'Donnell:

"Everyone talks about 'hockey market this,' and "hockey market that.' The energy around Orange County for this, and the Kings fans when the Kings were doing well, it's just a great hockey market," he said. "There's so many people here that you're not going to get the same energy you would in a small Canadian city, but it's a great hockey place and I'm so happy I've been able to play here for eight or nine years now with L.A. and the Ducks." - Sean O’Donnell

Fans celebrate Ducks' Stanley Cup victory

Associated Press

6/10/2007 2:28:06 AM

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and more than 15,000 fans celebrated the Anaheim Ducks' Stanley Cup title Saturday night.

Some fans who jammed the south parking lot of the Honda Center brought homemade replicas of the cup, and some bought souvenir game pucks in Stanley Cup-shaped cases.

The Ducks won the NHL title with a 6-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night, ending the series in five games in front of their home fans.

Schwarzenegger told the crowd that he had spoken with Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Ottawa after the Ducks lost Game 3 and warned him that, "We'll be back."

"Then, when it came to the last game, it was, `Hasta la vista, baby!"' Schwarzenegger said.

Ducks players arrived in a black double-decker bus, escorted by an honour guard of motorcycle police and fire engines.

The cup was flown in by helicopter to the strains of Richard Wagner's "Flight of the Valkyries."

Once the helicopter landed, Ducks captain Scott Niedermayer took the cup and gave it to his teammates, who passed it around as they walked to a red-carpeted stage while being showered with confetti.

"Anybody who has won individual honours would trade them for the Stanley Cup," said defenceman Chris Pronger, who won the Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player and the Norris Trophy as its best defenceman in 2000.

Teemu Selanne received the loudest cheers. Selanne, in his second stint with the Ducks, played on his first Stanley Cup champion after 13 seasons - and, at 36, he's not sure if he'll play last season.

Amid chants of "One more year!" Selanne declined to state whether he would retire.

"If I were Arnold, I would say 'I'll be back,"' Selanne said. "I've always dreamed about retiring on top, but the last two years here have been the best of my life."

LOL ... supposedly that report is wayyy off too. There weren't 15000 people there, but closer to 6500. Pretty damn pathetic. Still, they are a damn good team!

Seeing Arnie hoist the cup is a lot easier on the stomach than the thought of Stephen Harper doing so :D

Hey, when do the mayors make-good on the Stanley Cup wager they made???? Gotta see pics of that :)

Chris Pronger then, being the dumbass he is, lifted the cup over his head, only to have the cup and his arms mangled in the chopper's rotating blades....
