badams Posted August 29, 2007 Report Share Posted August 29, 2007 This is a nice exhibition series but this isn't 1972. First of all the political climate isn't near what is was then. The Cold war and the threat of Nuclear War breaking out at anytime added so much to the series. It was us against them. Democracy vs Dictatorship. Also at that time it was evident Canada and Russia were the top two hockey countries in the world. That is debatable now.In 1972 they were playing for pride and to show which society was superior. I think there is still some pride today but mainly they play to impress NHL scouts if they haven't already been signed.Still, It's a nice way to break into the hockey season.
