Hal Johnson
My Parents got them in Etobicoke a couple of years ago and theyre quite useful. You dont really realize how much stuff goes to regular garbage (that doesnt need to) until you get the green box. I wish we had them in Waterloo! phishtaper
we've had them in guelph since 1995. sadly, we are still sorting, but the city is throwing it all back together and shipping it to the US. one of our dirty little secrets. bradm
wtf is a green bin?I think it's the food-waste equivalent of a blue/black box. I guess it'll allow people who don't have their own compost piles (or who don't contribute to those of their neighbours) to recycle their food waste in a vast, group manner.Aloha,Brad Edited November 29, 2007 by Guest
phishtaper
the advantage of the green bin system over home composting is that it utilizes a great many more biodegradable wastes, like meats, hygiene products, seeds, and pet wastes. putting these into your home compost would wreak havoc on them. this is the list of allowable wastes in the guelph wet stream. systems like this also operate year-round.
