allison
perfect soundtrack prequel to toronto's all night contemporary art thing...nuit blanche 2009. Most people around here have likely not seen FM Hi Low...you should.Fraser def. seems to come from the surfer troubadour school of palatability some of you like to shit on...but he's really good. Melody, sincerity, positivity...its ok for things to be nice every once and awhile. Mark Harris is pretty raw...really young...def., with no hyperbole, a spark of genius. Mark is on at 9 ish...this show ends early at 1:30. Smiling Buddha Bar 961 College St. Toronto, ON $10 at the door. For one sleepless night experience the city transformed by close to 500 artists for Toronto's fourth annual sunset to sunrise celebration of contemporary art. Discover art in galleries, museums and unexpected places. From churches and grocery stores to chimney stacks and bus stations, choose from 130 projects and chart your own path. http://www.scotiabanknuitblanche.ca/ FM Hi Low FM Hi Low is founded on the voice and multi-instrumental compositions of Canadian musician Fraser MacDougall (FM). His latest record "Up On The Hillside" has been over a year in the making and springs from a natural evolution of sound and personal exploration. Combining elements of folk, reggae, roots, rock, soul, electro and dub, FM Hi Low draws from many wells of inspiration to bring listeners a fresh sound with a vintage character. Fm Hi Low has opened the stage for such diverse artists as Mishka, Joel Plaskett, the Wassabi Collective, the Wooden Sky, Kreesha Turner, Spiral Beach, The Slip, the Paper Lions and many others. http://www.myspace.com/fmhilow envelope 3 Open the envelope. Auditory architecture arises from the distilled essence of a sonic landscape. Ambiently listenable, lush and complex, a tight, technical structure that allows a growling danceable underbelly to connect to the beat and the reflexive chorus of live sampling and looping. "...moments of nostalgic beauty and otherworldiness. Multidimensional, this music integrates height with depth, plays between whimsy and seriousness, moves between longing and being, dances with both joy and sorrow and invokes emotional participation from listeners." envelope 3 is the new incarnation of Dave Lauzon, formerly the lead guitarist and songwriter for nero. With nero, Lauzon headlined festivals on both sides of the border, was featured in Relix and Guitar Player Magazine (nero feature) , graced the cover of Musik and was nominated for a Jammy award. With envelope 3, signature Lauzon sounds form the heart of a new entity that melds man, machine, instrument and music. http://www.myspace.com/soundenvelope3 Edited September 29, 2009 by Guest

zero
I feel like total shit for missing Lauzon and nuit blanche. Gordo (and the Hold Steady) took it out of me. That said I wouldn't have likely been at the gym at 8:00 sunday morning which is truthfully where I spend a hell of a lot more of my time than in clubs.
