phishtaper
Thirty years ago today Terry Fox started his run.Archive clips here if you feel like crying/feel a surge of unparalleled pride:http://archives.cbc.ca/sports/exploits/topics/71/There is an article in The Spectator today about how Fox was in Hamilton 30 years ago today. It talks about him meeting 10yo Greg Scott who similarly had lost a leg to bone cancer and who also tragically passed away within the year. It is said that Fox himself was inspired by the 10yo softball player who later joined him on his marathon for a few days. Crying is right, Velvet. Over the years I have come to really understand and appreciate what a uniquely incredible guy Terry Fox was.
Northern Wish
I wrote a speech on Terry Fox for a Kiwanis public speaking competition in Grade 6. Despite my research, the whole thing didn't really impact me. Until I gave the speech..... the whole crowd was silent and then sobbing.I won first prize by a landslide. Now I get it. What a guy! Ms.Huxtable
I do a 5km run a couple times a week for the past few years and each and every time, I feel like giving up in the last kilometer. That just so happens to be on Wellington where the Terry Fox monument is. I look at him and keep going. With all of his accomplishments, I can surely finish 5km.What an inspiration.
