ollie
Rumors are true. The Elmdale Tavern will change hands as of January 1st and it will no longer be a live music venue. Everything until then remains the same! Edited November 3, 2012 by Guest
Pablo Sanchez
What!?I went there one night and paid for maybe 7 draft beers. At those prices, that should have covered the rent for at least 6 months!
AD
Whalesbone is moving in and are continuing the tradition of live music, though at a slower pace. "@TheWhalesbone: @leftydammit there will definately be an affiliation - the Elmdale will be similar but different""Nathalie Myles: Live Music will continue, this is not becoming a Whalesbone, the owners of the Whalesbone bought the business an they're adding a kitchen! The Elmdale will live on!!!!" Edited November 3, 2012 by Guest

bouche
the original FB post made it sound like there'd be no music and it would be a restaurant...only because those details were missing and I filled in the blanks. Glad to know they're still going to be booking and not competing with Wellington Seafood

Check out the Elmdale!Apartment613: What kind of music are you thinking about having and how often do you think shows will take place?Whalesbone: A variety of blues, funk, jazz, soul, folk and improv. We see that there are a lot of opportunities, we’ll take notes of what we feel works best and roll with it.Aloha,Brad
Cosmic ChrisC
Where's the rock n roll?
AD
Pretty sure the list he gave in the interview isn't exhaustive - it's to show that they will have all kinds. I've definitely seen some great rock and roll shows at the real Whalesbone so it's not a genre they're adverse to.Unless you were being facetious. bradm
There was an articlehttp://www.ottawamagazine.com/restaurants/city-bites/2013/03/14/opening-everything-you-wanted-to-know-about-the-whalesbones-new-elmdale-oyster-house-tavernbut-were-afraid-to-ask/the other day about it which didn't mention music at all. It looks like their website has been updated, but it's still minimal.Aloha,Brad
AD
They are planning live music 3 nights per week. The setup for shows is pretty great now, raised stage at the back, perpendicular to the bar running down the side of the room. The area that used to house the pool table is now the kitchen. The place looks super good. I had dinner there tonight and the food is good too (as expected). Limited menu for now, full menu should roll out within a month.
