THE CORPORATION

Screenings and Volunteer Opportunities

Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, ASAP

Are corporations responsible and productive members of society? Or are they ruthless psychopaths, stopping at nothing to maximize profits? Is profit for real -- or are the costs being hidden? Are poverty, war and the destruction of the environment being needlessly advanced by corporate influence? Most important, does it have to be this way?

Beginning this Friday, January 16, "The Corporation" is screening in Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa. It is being hailed by some as "the next Bowling for Columbine". Perhaps even more so than Michael Moore's remarkable film, The Corporation tackles root causes of what is wrong with society today -- a society that is quickly destroying the planet and everything on it.

Many of us work for corporations, big or small. There are many good, well-meaning people in corporations, both staff and management. But this film argues that the legal and economic structure of the corporation itself - despite the best efforts of the people who work for them - is inherently destructive. And unnecessary.

Anyone who wants a healthy life, meaningful work and a saner world will be interested in this film. Why do things always seem to sink to the lowest common denominator -- pointless work, seedy consumerism, senseless violence? How can we reconnect with our values and needs? This film helps shed some light on these questions. It might even inspire us to do something about it.

I saw this film at last year's Toronto International Film Festival.

The film is excellent and truly scary.

The interviews are great, especially segements with blowhard ( but funny ) Michael Moore and Noam Chomsky.

The main problem with the film is in it's length: It's waaaaaaay too long and ( often ) repetitive, to the point of tedium. The film needed to be a half-hour shorter: It would have made the film more powerful and impactful. Perhaps the director has re-cut the film since it's TIFF screening last summer. I hopes so.

Still: SEE THIS FILM.

I'm all about this film, count me in as well. Just finsihed Moore's new book, horribly written, but chalk full of hard to swallow truths. Like for example how when the rich and powerful realized that they were running out of ways to make new money (the nature of a free enterprise market is constant growth) They came up with the idea of getting the middle class involved in the stock market which until was the "rich man's game" This inturn pumped boatloads of new money into the market as hopefull jane and joe sixpacks lineup to get a peice of the pie, which as they were being told was there for the taking throught the 90's. By the end of the 90's, daytrading now a household word, stocks began to fall through the floor, but brokers were telling john/jane to stick with trhe maerket bounces back while at the same time selling off everything they and there friends had, positively bankrupting millions of hardworking citizens while the top %5 lined there pockets even more, making the gap between rich and poor insermountable.

This is why companies such as ENRON, Worldcom, Tyco need to be punished they are responsible for ruining millions of lives, but do to they're cozy postion in this administration to ever have to answer for their crimes... makes me want to shit with rage!

And thats just one element of how corporations are fucking things up. Halliburton, Hardon, Bechtel are after the worlds oil and will start wars in every conceivable place to get it done. Companyies are buying your personal information from gov't agencies to track and quantify you. Thanks to globalization corps are pollutiong with no remorse and no fear of punishment as they can counter-sue and win any case even if a whole Mexican village is turned into a glowing swamp. its sickening but that the way things go, the politics of greeds are rampant and as long as everyone sits at home complaining about the gov't, waiting for Survivor or any other smoke screen (my new fav being the mission to Mars) to come on, THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE. APATHY BREEDS TYRANY!!!!

THAT IS WHY WHY EVERYONE WHO READS THIS SHOULD CONTACT ANYONE YOU KNOW IN THE STATES AND CONVINCE THEM THAT THEY MUST VOTE THIS TIME, 4 MORE YEARS ARE NOT AN OPTION, THE HUMAN RACE MIGHT NOT MAKE IT.

"If only half the deadheads in Florida had of voted, we wouldn't be in this mess now" - Bob Weir

here-here!

All good points.

However, 'Dude, Where's My Country' is nowhere near as horribly written as this post. Please take a spelling and grammar class quick or nobody will take you seriously!

Who shits with rage, really.

maybe spend a little less time next to the speaker... [Cool]
