  3. I attended this the other day and it was really good. The next 12 to 24 months is going to see some dramatic changes in the direction of the situation in Afghanistan. This is no Iraq. http://www.sendspace.com/file/liuqk4 Podcast: Reporting in Afghanistan panel discussion Available In: April 30, 2009 – To mark World Press Freedom Day (Saturday, May 2), CBC Toronto and Canadian Journalists for Free Expression hosted a “Reporting in Afghanistan†panel discussion in Glenn Gould Studio, April 29, to look at the challenges facing foreign and local reporters, the pros and cons of embedded reporting, and the role of reporting in shaping Canadian policy and public opinion. In front of a full house of employees, journalism students and members of the community, the panel, moderated by The Current’s Anna Maria Tremonti, and consisting of CBC News journalist Susan Ormiston, photojournalist Louie Palu, and The Globe and Mail’s Graeme Smith, told harrowing tales of their experiences in Afghanistan and talked about the importance of reporting—and continuing to report—from the region.

bradm ... beautifully summed up. Thank you. WHAT? Come on now. You have to be kidding me. They are a group of individuals that represent the citizens of this country. They come from all sorts of racial/ethnic/religious/etc backgrounds. How are they NOT representative??? Everyone has the right to plaster whatever they want on their car. Let the INDIVIDUAL deal with it. Why should the gov't (the owner of the plates) get involved at all? Hell, I remember getting in SHIT being in a friend's car and he had put a GD dancing bear sticker on top of the "crown" between the two sets of letters/numbers on his Ontario plate. People have the freedom to express whatever they want. I want the gov't to deal with more pertinent issues, so simply leave all that at the door, please.
  6. I was reading about this one too. Damn, just got offered tix for it here at work too (but i can't go that night) and they got scooped up. I went to a really interesting panel discussion that touched on a lot of these subjects, here at CBC the other day. I don't know if it's going to be broadcast. I can pull the podcast and post here if you're interested. It was good!

  10. Penguins, Hawks, Ducks, and a Bear? Who's going with the animal picks? The West could end up with a Ducks v Nucks series

  12. The guestbook is a great place to go to get more info on this. Jumping all over it based on one person's email, and one press story (we all know how well they do at covering our scene) shouldn't cause you to abandon Gratefulfest. Eight people arrested out of 3000? Come on ... that ratio isn't out of whack. What were they arrested for? Trafficking ... yes, selling. Hmmm, great happy festival for all ages and people are upset about 8 people getting nabbed for trafficking? The Gratefulfest scene doesn't need to get ruined by the scketchy scene. If this is any deterrent then I'm OK with it. Here's what Evan (who owns the venue/park) posted the other day: And here's what another individual who attends most all of the events there said too; Here are his pics from last weekend. Weird seeing the ledges with no leaves on the trees!!

Birdy, Bumper stickers, Jesus/Darwin fish, etc. are all personal that are placed on your private property. A license plate is owned and controlled by the State. Different. I could care less ONLY if they are allowing other religions to be depicted as well. Do you think that Florida would create plates with Stars of David, Wicca imagery, Islam Crescent, etc? Nothing like a blue, ripped, dead Jesus with a bald spot in front of an orange that makes me think SUNSHINE!!! Think they'll allow any of these on Jesus Vanity Plates (isn't that in itself wrong? Vanity?)
  17. Thanks for the info. I have a HD version of their show Corteo that I haven't watched yet. The one time I saw them (in Germany 1995) i was blown away.

You gotta be kidding me .... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/28/jesus-license-plate-in-fl_n_192565.html Wonder if the governor would approve other religions' icons/logos? Betcha no!
  19. AND if you call and ask your insurance company about it, they'll ding you for having an "incident" even if you don't make a claim!!! Never tell insurance about it unless you're ready to go through with it (call anonymously from a pay phone or something ) Also, go to a repair/body shop that YOU trust. NOT the one that insurance sends you to. It's your choice.
  20. Brodeur will be back. No way he's ending his career on that final 90 seconds!!! I can't wait to see Ovechkin v. Crosby/Malkin.
