    Tintin

I was a big fan of Asterix growing up. I still have all the books and should go through them again sometime. Clever stuff. That Cleopatra had such a pretty nose As for TinTin, I never got into them I remember the artwork though. The one where he went to the moon was cool. I watched a really interesting documentary on the author a while back. It really sheds a different light on those stories as Jaimoe mentioned. There are heavy political undertones to those stories and many of the characters were parodies on real-life figures. It was called "TinTin and I". Killer visual effects bringing some of the stories to life. http://www.pbs.org/pov/pov2006/tintinandi/about.html I'm sure it's available on the interwebs somewhere. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tintin_and_I
  3. Whoa! That was a wild one tonight. Six goals against the Habs?!?! The Leafs were seemingly relentless tonight and had a lot of energy compared to their last game. They had the Habs scrambling a lot of the time and were beating them to the puck all over the place. Did you catch Cherry after the game? I really like how he showed the little bit of bullshit that Grabovsky gave to Price to show the reasoning as to why the Habs were going after him in the third period. Put things into perspective. I don't think they caught that during the broadcast. Coach's Corner was sad. Never do I recall seeing so many names of fallen soldiers in the past few years.
  4. Nice!!! I like the other ones on that site too Bradm:

  7. I was there for the gig in Hamilton on Nov 4th. It was FANTASTIC. The singer fills in for Anderson perfectly. Rick's kid on keys was really good too (and resembled his dad a lot). More importantly, Steve Howe was brilliant! The guy is unbelievable. The sound was phenomenal. I don't know if they had a lot of extra time to set up since they had been rehearsing near there for a couple of weeks. Smaller theatres like that are definitely the place to experience Yes. Top notch performance. Siberian Khatru opener! The weakest parts of the show for me? Owner of a Lonely Heart just comes up flat live in comparison to their other material. There was also a dreadful Squire song called "Aliens" i think. Here's a review from the Hamilton Spec: http://www.thespec.com/Entertainment/article/461397
  8. Many places have found ways to counter their hate. Some encircle them dressed in angel costumes with huge wings so you can't see them. Others use signs similar to theirs: As soon as they know they are not going to be protected by local law enforcement they run. They tried to come into Canada once and got rejected at the border for their hate materials. They then came in somewhere else and were told by local police that they would NOT protect them. They left. You'd think they'd have faith that their "god" would protect them
  9. Finishing what was started 150 years ago:
  10. Sick fucks at WBC. They may not be breaking laws, but damn they are assholes. I can't wait to see how they counter this protest: WBC press release: WBC to picket the funeral of Madelyn Payne Dunham, - pursuant to the picketing laws of Hawaii or Kansas or, etc., wherever burial occurs, - in religious protest and warning to the living; to wit: "Prepare to meet thy God." Amos 4:11. Yes. Dying time is truth time, and reflection time, and time for meditating on the weighty issues of life: getting right with God, life, death, Heaven, Hell, sin, righteousness, judgment to come, etc. Obama says his grandmother Dunham raised him, and, her "influence on his manner and the way he viewed the world was substantial." If so, then she has much to answer for as she stands before the Lord. Obama says he will use the White House as a Bully Pulpit to advance the cause of murdering more babies and same-sex marriage. "God hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by Christ." Acts 17:31. "And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry to him day and night?" Luke 18 :7. "For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompence, saith the Lord. It is afearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.." Reb. 10:30,31. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7800850
  11. How sadly ironic There was a link to another good op ed piece in the comments section of that article. Check it out: http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-ed-prop8-2-2008nov02,0,5926932.story
  12. Too bad it's taking them a while to get the recordings out, but good things come to those who wait.
  13. FYI - tonight on CBC: http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/ Wednesday, November 5 at 9 pm on CBC-TV OVERBOARD Last week, the National Transportation Safety Board released its long-awaited report on the death at sea of Laura Gainey. The findings of the report confirm what the fifth estate first documented a year ago. The fifth estate's Gillian Findlay investigated the circumstances of Laura's death off the tall ship Picton Castle and told the story of a ship that had sailed too late in the season, was undermanned and did not follow basic safety rules. Now, Laura's father, Montreal Canadiens great Bob Gainey, responds to the NTSB report's findings in an exclusive television interview on the fifth estate.
  14. Saw the replays ... gotta say that it was a pretty damn sweet pass that Alfie sent over to Fisher for the winner in OT.
  15. From Michael Moore: Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 Friends, Who among us is not at a loss for words? Tears pour out. Tears of joy. Tears of relief. A stunning, whopping landslide of hope in a time of deep despair. In a nation that was founded on genocide and then built on the backs of slaves, it was an unexpected moment, shocking in its simplicity: Barack Obama, a good man, a black man, said he would bring change to Washington, and the majority of the country liked that idea. The racists were present throughout the campaign and in the voting booth. But they are no longer the majority, and we will see their flame of hate fizzle out in our lifetime. There was another important "first" last night. Never before in our history has an avowed anti-war candidate been elected president during a time of war. I hope President-elect Obama remembers that as he considers expanding the war in Afghanistan. The faith we now have will be lost if he forgets the main issue on which he beat his fellow Dems in the primaries and then a great war hero in the general election: The people of America are tired of war. Sick and tired. And their voice was loud and clear yesterday. It's been an inexcusable 44 years since a Democrat running for president has received even just 51% of the vote. That's because most Americans haven't really liked the Democrats. They see them as rarely having the guts to get the job done or stand up for the working people they say they support. Well, here's their chance. It has been handed to them, via the voting public, in the form of a man who is not a party hack, not a set-for-life Beltway bureaucrat. Will he now become one of them, or will he force them to be more like him? We pray for the latter. But today we celebrate this triumph of decency over personal attack, of peace over war, of intelligence over a belief that Adam and Eve rode around on dinosaurs just 6,000 years ago. What will it be like to have a smart president? Science, banished for eight years, will return. Imagine supporting our country's greatest minds as they seek to cure illness, discover new forms of energy, and work to save the planet. I know, pinch me. We may, just possibly, also see a time of refreshing openness, enlightenment and creativity. The arts and the artists will not be seen as the enemy. Perhaps art will be explored in order to discover the greater truths. When FDR was ushered in with his landslide in 1932, what followed was Frank Capra and Preston Sturgis, Woody Guthrie and John Steinbeck, Dorothea Lange and Orson Welles. All week long I have been inundated with media asking me, "gee, Mike, what will you do now that Bush is gone?" Are they kidding? What will it be like to work and create in an environment that nurtures and supports film and the arts, science and invention, and the freedom to be whatever you want to be? Watch a thousand flowers bloom! We've entered a new era, and if I could sum up our collective first thought of this new era, it is this: Anything Is Possible. An African American has been elected President of the United States! Anything is possible! We can wrestle our economy out of the hands of the reckless rich and return it to the people. Anything is possible! Every citizen can be guaranteed health care. Anything is possible! We can stop melting the polar ice caps. Anything is possible! Those who have committed war crimes will be brought to justice. Anything is possible. We really don't have much time. There is big work to do. But this is the week for all of us to revel in this great moment. Be humble about it. Do not treat the Republicans in your life the way they have treated you the past eight years. Show them the grace and goodness that Barack Obama exuded throughout the campaign. Though called every name in the book, he refused to lower himself to the gutter and sling the mud back. Can we follow his example? I know, it will be hard. I want to thank everyone who gave of their time and resources to make this victory happen. It's been a long road, and huge damage has been done to this great country, not to mention to many of you who have lost your jobs, gone bankrupt from medical bills, or suffered through a loved one being shipped off to Iraq. We will now work to repair this damage, and it won't be easy. But what a way to start! Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States. Wow. Seriously, wow. Yours, Michael Moore MichaelMoore.com MMFlint@aol.com
