  1. Here's an interesting take on Paris from Ariana Huffington:
  2. I understand where you are coming from. However, where most people don't seem to have a problem having fun at Paris' expense since she's the epitome of justice tipping in the favour of the wealthy and powerful (her family's money). Does anyone here truly believe that everyone else in this situation would be treated the same way in that court?
  3. You gotta be "scarred" from all the times they've done this in the past. Time to be "scared" of what they'll do next!!!
  4. NO ... a bad person would probably feel sorry for her She'll remain an heir-head and will maintain her "celebrity" more than ever with this. She'll even MAKE MONEY from it! Maybe she'll marry OJ. She might fight him like a glove ... ouch ... now am I bad? I feel dirty ...
  5. I figured it had been used in the past. The text was pretty clever and timely
  6. This is pretty funny ... i have no idea where it came from:

(September, 2003) After an eventful day, Ken Daneyko could hardly wait to get back to his Mendham home and climb into bed with his special partner. 9. He'd cower away from it like a forechecking Duck was coming at him!!
  10. In > Out > In > Out > In > Out .... Her jail attendance is just like her video tapes!
  11. Look out Kanata, Oshawa and all the other places it'll be visiting this summer: http://www.latimes.com/sports/hockey/nhl/ducks/la-sp-cup8jun08,1,3596761.story?coll=la-headlines-sports-nhl-ducks%2F&ctrack=1&cset=true
  12. More from Sean O'Donnell: "Everyone talks about 'hockey market this,' and "hockey market that.' The energy around Orange County for this, and the Kings fans when the Kings were doing well, it's just a great hockey market," he said. "There's so many people here that you're not going to get the same energy you would in a small Canadian city, but it's a great hockey place and I'm so happy I've been able to play here for eight or nine years now with L.A. and the Ducks." - Sean O’Donnell
  13. “I'm sorry it wasn't your year this year, but it was a heck of a team. I had friends that flew in for games three and four and they were amazed with the energy on Elgin Street and in the rink. So I think the people of Ottawa should be really proud of their team. Get the party ready for sometime in July or early August or whenever it's going to be, Kanata, get ready!"- Sean O’Donnell - CBC “I think we’ve been holding back on our emotions for the last couple of days. It’s kind of surreal at this point. You can’t really fathom that we got it done.†- Randy Carlyle - OC Register “You always think this is your goal. When I came here, I didn’t know a lot about some of the young players. I didn’t know a lot about a lot of the players that were here. We just kept having fun, kept wanting to work hard for each other, listened to the coach most of the time. You don’t draw it up like this. You just stick your nose in there, look up now, and this is what happens.†- Scott Niedermayer - OC Register “Our guys stepped up when they needed to, with guys making big plays all the time. That’s how it’s gone through the whole playoffs.†- Ryan Getzlaf - OC Register “It makes you appreciate it a little bit more. It’s not easy to get to this point. I’m really exhausted right now, but we’re going to enjoy it and look forward to a good summer.†- J.S. Giguere - OC Register “This is the best feeling I’ve ever had in my career. It’s probably the best feeling I’ll ever have in my career. I couldn’t have written anything up like this. I haven’t shed this many tears in a long time. I didn’t know if this was ever going to happen. I’ve watched Scott do it. I’ve been to the Finals twice. I don’t think people realize how much of an emotional and physical roller coaster these playoffs are. I think that’s why it was so emotional at the end.†- Rob Niedermayer - OC Register “I’ve been waiting for this for such a long time. There were times I didn’t believe this was ever going to happen. To win it in front of our fans, I can’t think of a better way. It’s a dream come true for all of us. Somebody is going to have to wake me up.†- Teemu Selanne - OC Register "I thought we could get here. We sat down after we lost to Edmonton last year and said what were we missing. What was the difference in that series? We felt if we could add one more elite defenseman and we made a list. We didn't know if we could go and get him or not. But as soon as we knew Chris Pronger was available, we turned over every stone to get him." - Ducks GM Brian Burke - LA Times "To me, it's a much better feeling. It's definitely a different scenario (than in 1993). We're just really excited that we were able to get to this point." - J.S. Giguere - LA Times "It's the biggest dream of my life, It's unbelievable. It's everything I hoped it would be. I'm so proud of my teammates. We made this happen as a team." - Teemu Selanne - LA Times "I feel like I just got off a roller coaster. I'm happy, excited, just dizzy. It's been an unbelievable season.†- Sean O’Donnell - LA Times "I didn't know what I was going to do (about handing off the Cup). I guess he's one of the assistant captains. Maybe not quite the seniority, but I figured I could use my rank as captain to make that decision." - Scott Niedermayer - LA Times "Nobody deserves it more than Teemu. I told him that tonight," Joe DiPenta - LA Times "Hockey is different than basketball or soccer, where you can just pick up a basketball or soccer ball and play You really need to have your parents involved and they have to dedicate some of their weekends, not just money. I wanted to call them right away and congratulate them and thank them and let them know they were such a big part of it." - Sean O’Donnell - LA Times â€It's the highest accomplishment. Obviously I played for a number of years. I've been in the game professionally for 30 years and this is my first Stanley Cup. And I'm going to savor this for a few days anyways. We'll allow more than the 10-minute rule that we have.†- Randy Carlyle - NHL â€We have a lot of guys in the room that were pretty hungry, When you play like Teemu (Selanne) has for 15 or 16 years, when you play 10, 12, 14 years and you haven't had a chance to do this, that puts something in your stomach, I think, that you can count on at this time of year. And I think our guys showed that.†- Scott Niedermayer - NHL â€Obviously, we had to wait a long time for something unbelievable. And it really makes it even more special. To get the win in our own home building … I'm so proud of my teammates. We've been like brothers. And we have had one dream together, and that's why it's so special.†- Teemu Selanne - NHL
  14. You'll still get to see the Cup this summer. Check out what O'Donnell had to say: “I'm sorry it wasn't your year this year, but it was a heck of a team. I had friends that flew in for games three and four and they were amazed with the energy on Elgin Street and in the rink. So I think the people of Ottawa should be really proud of their team. Get the party ready for sometime in July or early August or whenever it's going to be, Kanata, get ready!"- Sean O’Donnell - CBC and more ... here are some more detailed plans for the Cup's visit to Kanata: As if the crushed players, and fans, of the Ottawa Senators didn't need one more bitter twist of the hockey knife, consider this looming truth: The most-revered trophy in professional sports, the Stanley Cup, will be coming to Ottawa this summer after all. But only in the taunting form of a day-trip. All members of the newly minted Stanley Cup champion Ducks gained the privilege of getting to spend 24 hours with the iconic treasure this summer. And so, when asked about his plans for the Cup, this was the first word from Ducks defenseman Sean O'Donnell: "Ottawa." He grew up in nearby Kanata, Canada, which happens to be the location of the Senators' home rink, and unlike many of his perhaps superstitious teammates, had some semblance of a plan for his date with Stanley. The Stanley Cup, apparently, will be one big dog dish again, serving up kibbles for his 10-year-old dog, Buddy, a black Labrador who is missing a right front leg because of cancer. "We'll get a picture of him doing that," O'Donnell said. Hey, if it was good enough for the New York Islanders' Clark Gillies and his dog in 1980 at the start of their legendary dynastic run, why not for an animal who has beaten the tough odds given to him by doctors in January 2006?" Every kid always imagines what he would do," O'Donnell said. "I'll probably go back to Kanata and have some close friends in the backyard for a couple of hours in the afternoon and do something at nighttime for one of the coaches I played for. There's so many people." ... And bring it back to the house till the sun comes up."
  15. I think the fact that the finals didn't go to 7 games nullified any chance that Alfie would receive the award. Just as Jiggy was not a true contender considering he missed most (or was it all?) of the first round (for his cute little baby who had eye problems). When Jiggy won it, on the losing side of the Cup final, he carried his team from start to finish. It was because that finish was a 7-gamer too. Alfie would be deserving of an award for MVP for the Eastern Conference for the playoffs though.
  16. Viewership for the playoffs is almost always reflective of what teams are in it. In the States it really does help to have a 'high profile' team with stars on it ... like Colorado, Detroit, New York. I still find it bizarre that if Canada is such a hockey nation, why the average viewers for the FINALS are so low! Here is an article that has the numbers for the US and Canada. http://www.cbc.ca/cp/hockey/070607/h060735A.html CBC's Cup final ratings down 18 per cent from 2006 series Published: Thursday, June 7, 2007 | 8:51 PM ET Canadian Press TORONTO (CP) - CBC's coverage of the Stanley Cup final averaged 2.502 million viewers, an 18-per-cent dip from last year. This year's series between Ottawa and Anaheim drew the third-highest overall average for a Cup final on CBC in the last 10 years and sixth-highest since 1989. Last year's Edmonton-Carolina series, which went seven games, averaged 3.042 million viewers. The 2004 series between Calgary and Tampa Bay attracted an average of 3.735 million, the highest since 1989. An average of 2.163 million viewers tuned in to watch Anaheim win the Cup on Wednesday night with a 6-2 win over Ottawa in Game 5. Last year's Game 5 between the Oilers and the Hurricanes averaged 2.690 million viewers on CBC. Overall, CBC's playoff ratings were down 10 per cent from last year as an average of 1.477 million viewers tuned in compared to 1.649 million in 2006. The highest CBC audience for a Stanley Cup final was 4.957 million for Game 7 of the Canucks-Rangers series on June 14, 1994. In the U.S., the Cup final had record-low network television ratings. The three games aired on NBC averaged a 1.6 rating and a 3 share, the network said Thursday. That's down 20 per cent from the 2.0/4 drawn for the same three games last year. Game 5 received a 1.8/3, down 28 per cent from last year's 2.5/4 in Game 5. In the U.S., the rating is the percentage watching a telecast among all homes with televisions, and the share is the percentage tuned in to a broadcast among those households with televisions on at the time. A ratings point represents 1,114,000 households.
  17. Of those guys, I'd say the most important are Giguere, Selanne and May. Selanne will sign again, as would May if they offer it to him. Giguere will probably stay, but is expendable. They have a decent goalie in Bryzgalov and could survive without Jiggy.
  18. LOL ... that was good. Thanks.
  19. That's where I think that a Gary Roberts could have really made an impact for the Sens in this run.
  20. If avoidance of an animal can be done safely, it has to be attempted. In this case it sounds like it could have. HOWEVER, sometimes choices have to be made. I have felt sick to my stomach that on two occasions I have had to maintain my path in order to keep my car on the road and passengers safe (once with a squirrel on an onramp, another with a fox in a blizzard up north). My sister had a good friend who lost his life, and his girlfriend's, because he swerved out of the way of a dog and hit a lamp post :( And, if the lamp post hadn't been there, they could have taken out a few pedestrians and kids. It sucks ... it really does.
  21. I like a lot of the extra ones people have come up with here. I think that music performances are different than music used as a tool to advance the plot. Resevior Dogs - Stuck In The Middle ... wicked. I will never forget that and if the music wasn't there, the scene would be completely different. Same goes for the Clockwork Orange reference. Other ones that stand out in my head include: Apocalypse Now - The Ride Of The Valkyries and the Satisfaction scene. Gallipoli - Adagio in G-minor for Strings and Organ in the final sequence ... heart-wrenching (the contrast of Jean Michel Jarre synth is interesting earlier in the film too - historical movie with electronica music). Risky Business - the Bob Seeger "Old Time Rock and Roll" scene. There are many many more.
  22. Awesome tour! Caught them at the Danforth Music Hall that time 'round (THANK YOU Big Wolly Mammoth for convincing me). Sends shivers up my spine. Lanois and Emmylou are a great combo.
  23.
