  1. Yup, Yashin was a cancer for the Islanders. Somehow I don't see him being great for any team in the league. Somebody should pick him up on a lark. Much like Lindros last year, he'll go for cheap. Either that, or he'll go back to Europe to play? Shit, i wouldn't be surprised if the Leafs picked him up and finish even further down in the standings this year (Nik for 4million? come on!)
  2. Hey, I'll be the first one (well prob not) to say that he really stepped up and was one of the couple of Sens that really showed up for the game (of course, Fisher was the other!) Alfie's efforts showed what he could do ... too bad the team didn't follow suit.
  3. That's an understatement! I can't believe it's been a year since I was there ... I miss it
  4. Thanks Booche. I saw the video of those comments by Bob: http://broadband.tsn.ca/?vid=8375 I would love to one day see Bob McKenzie in skates and hockey gear and see if he can even move! There are lots of players who "play on the edge". On a Fisher note, here's a quick bit off of TSN as well. It's amazing how a competitive, hungry, and talented team player like Fisher can unite hockey fans of all sorts. He's got class http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=209991&hubname=
  5. Have a safe trip. Keep us informed along the way. Looking forward to hoisting a few brews with ya when you get back around here Bob.
  6. Does nobody else find that the guy's name is "Woods"? Christopher Woods' wood wouldn't go away. So he decided to go to the hospital the very next day. A surgical shunt stopped engorging the runt. Now he's soft like a chocolate souffle.
  7. Man, I totally agree with you. I've been amazed at the consistency and skilled play of the Ducks right through the playoffs. They have overcome some incredible teams along the way. All the while, they've been reported as some sort of joke or non-deserving franchise to have made it to the finals. The media here (especially CBC) has disgusted me. The game on Monday might as well have been considered a Senators broadcast with local sports radio guys determining the outside-play content. I've never seen the CBC NOT cover a team like they are NOT covering the Ducks. Where the fuck are the stories about the Duck players and where they are from and their families and friends who are supporting them? NONE! NBC has done a superior job on being an unbiased reporter of the series (too bad they didn't pick up Games 1 and 2). How many times have you read that the Sens have played their best game yet? Come on! They are being shut-down by a team that is consistent in their attack and mind-boggling on defence. I hate the fact that the biggest selling point of this Cup has been to label it a Can vs. US championship. Why can't they simply cover it as truly the best teams to come out of the East and the West. Leave the nationalistic pride and challenges to the World Cup and other international events where players represent their countries, not their franchises. You should hear people around work here talk about it. UGH.
  8. hey, i've never said he isn't a good player. On the contrary. I've complimented many of his goals (especially that one in the last game in the dying seconds of the first period). He's a great sniper and power play force. I simply question the extent of his talent in some other areas, much like people do with other players in the league. Sorry that y'all take it to heart so much. It's part of sports. Do you hear me slagging all of the players on the Senators? No. I have said many a good thing about a lot of them. Why do you think that people love sports? It's entertainment that fuels discussion, debate, what if scenarios etc. If you only talk about what occurred (and that's always open to interpretation, bias, beer goggles, etc.) it sure would be lame. Sorry, don't watch Alfie all season long. I see him the most during the playoffs as that is the time I love watching all the matchups regardless of what team is playing. You get the best hockey out of the best players, under the biggest microscope and pressure. I have watched Alfies play, and while the moniker "cheapshot artist" may be a bit of a stretch, I have seen many a game where his antics do not reflect Lady Bing-like qualities. Again, he seems to have a halo around him (like a lot of other "star" players) and seems to have a different set of rules that surround his play as compared to players who exert the physical aspects of the game. Whatev. If I get a chance to say hello to Alfie for ya at the NHL Players awards I will ...
  9. If you were Murray, what would you do if Emery was to let in 2 soft goals in the first period? Would you toss in Gerber? Murray's moves tonight will be very interesting to watch. Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. At least Gerber has Cup Final experience.
  10. You're trolling now' date=' right? [/quote'] How's that trolling? It's a logical question. The Sens biggest problem so far are the periods where they have been out hit and out muscled along the boards. Extra size would tend to help out here? Like Alfie said, they've got nothing to lose at this point.
  11. Didn't say he was a master, but rather an expert Like I said, he gets away with it. People are free to support, despise whatever players they choose. Alfie's one of those players though where people tend to love him or hate him (kind of like a Chelios, Pronger, Peca, etc.) He's definitely not the "gentlemanly" player that a lot of people make him out to be (unlike those such as Yzerman, Sakic, Borque, etc.)
  12. Hey, Alfie doesn't think that his actions inspired the Ducks at all in the 3rd! He also says that his team is upbeat because they have "nothing left to lose"!!! ROFLMAO ... I guess he considers the Stanley Cup slipping away from him as nothing to lose. Maybe it was lost in translation That's OK, you keep following yer leader. http://www.hfxnews.ca/index.cfm?sid=35115&sc=92
  13. Dude, it's a "turning point" the way I see it. As the captain, and it's timing, he has to shoulder a lot of the blame. Good players are humble and suck it up or shut up. Sure there are plenty of reasons for the loss. However, that one event can take the focus off of their game plan and give a mental advantage to the other team who will be returning to their home ice for the next game at the same time as receiving their star player back from suspension. If it had happened in Game 1 it wouldn't be nearly as critical for this very fact. If Alfie did NOT do what he did, they would have been able to regroup between periods after having tied it up before the buzzer, taken that third period at home with teh fans behind them and made it a best of 3 series. Turn it around and what do you think the Sens could do if Alfie had been taken out by a cheap shot? Talk about rally cry. The Sens will be looking over their shoulders all night tonight. If Alfie is the superstar leader that he's billed as, he should be able to shine in this game ... we'll have to wait and see. Will Murray dress McGrattan tonight? Will Murray break up the top line? It's gonna be an interesting evening one way or another. As for "cheap shots" yup, Alfie's damn good at 'em. He just never gets called on them. He's an expert at hitting from behind when he gets frustrated, and also likes to take shots at other players with his gloves on when he knows there's protection between him and the other player. You may see it differently, but there are plenty of hockey fans out there who see the opposite.
  14. OK, I'll give you the Nedermayer connection I was at that game when Domi did that (along with a couple of Sens fans). It was dirty and was the event that led to the Leafs collapsing in that series. Just like Domi did to the Leafs, you'll be able to blame Alfie for the final nail in the coffin of the Sens season this year. Hey, if Muckler still has a job, he could always dump Alfie and pick up Yashin to be the captain. He's out on the market right now :)
  15. I'll be watching even less Leaf hockey this year (unless they signed Antropov at scale .. yea right, ha!)
  16. Agreed, agreed, agreed, and agreed. Great comments. The person responsible for Chris Chuthbert "leaving" left the CBC herself a number of months ago (Nancy Lee). Doesn't that just suck when somebody makes a bonehead move like that, then leaves, and is nice enough to leave their mess behind CBC has the big contract with the NHL for the next 6 or 8 years (TV, Internet, etc.) They had better have some sort of plan for improvement over the next couple of years.
  17. LET THEM GO!!! Oh right, I forgot, Alfie only like to fight with his gloves on. http://tsn.ca/nhl/your_call/?id=209916&post=0&hubname=#
  18. Voice your opinion (if you even have one) that Bob and Harry need to go. Watch NBC. I'm watching on NBC tomorrow night for sure! Way better commentary and balanced coverage. I was really ticked-off at CBC's coverage last night. I didn't know that CBC turned into SBC (Senators Broadcasting Corporation). I've never seen a Cup Final game on CBC that was so completely biased in every sense. There wasn't just one, but two, intro montages that were comprised completely of Sens replays, and Sens lyrics. There was absolutely no time given to the team that is actually leading the series and will most likely win it. What's CBC going to do when the Ducks win? All of a sudden scramble for a Ducks montage? They'll start talking then about the talent and tenacity the team had? Where's all the coverage of the hometowns in Canada where all the players involved come from (Sens or Ducks)? It used to be that the Cup Final was broadcast as a celebration of the best in the game. This year, it seems to be about covering the favoured (at the time) Senators and ignoring their opponent in this round until they have to. NBC (as scary as that sounds to me) will be getting my support for the remainder of this Stanley Cup Final.
  19. A voice of reason ... and a fan of the Leafs. Also, somebody who is willing to admit that one of 'his' players isn't the cleanest, or most gentlemanly player around. I agree too. Domi did plenty of cheap stuff, just like the agitators on a lot of teams do (like Neil, like Tucker, like Pronger, etc.) Alfie is notorious for this too. He's proven himself as such ... just not to a lot of Sens fans it seems. BTW, why is it that Domi was even brought up? He no longer plays in the league. He is HISTORY now. Quit yer whining and deal with the present (i know that's what would be said if any Leaf fans around here were to talk about past exploits, events, players in relation to the present play). When the Ducks hoist the Cup, you can thank Alfie for providing the "Turning Point". If the Sens were down by 3 or 4 goals and time was running out, I could almost understand a brain-fart like that happening. However, when your team has just tied it up after a brutal period and you're trying to tie up the series with one more period to go it's just plain moronic. Now the series swings back to the Ducks' home ice, Pronger will be returning, the fans there will be craving the cup and going crazy, and Alfie will be fearing for his life on the ice (and many other Sens will be extra cautious). This is going to be really hard for the Sens to bounce back from. IF they do, it could be a real momentum swing. It's a massive hill right now though. What? I don't know what you were watching. The angles and replays that I saw sure don't tell that story. A number of people present at the game who I heard on the radio today sure didn't see it that way. The players on the bench sure didn't see it that way. I've seen Alfredsson make some very good plays in terms of playing the clock and killing time (on the PK, etc.) I've seen him make the smart dump in play in that situation (flip it high OVER the defenceman). He repositioned himself after looking at the clock, then looked at Niedermyer and blasted it as hard as he could. Alfredsson in a sniper. He picks the corners when he's going for goals. He has control of the puck and doesn't do that by "accident".
  20. LOL ... good catch Freak. Maybe he should change the spelling of his name and he'll get the "C" for the front and back of his jersey Either way, Bob Cole will still refer to him as "the Ottawa Senators player" Guarantee you, Fisher will show up again for Game 5. MVP for the Sens in my books.
  21. LOL ... man, the comedy routine that is the Sens fan that can't admit that their player fucked up! Those were meant to be in purple, right?
  22. My favourite Steely Dan album is still Aja. Start to finish ... a brilliant album.
  23. That was a good goal by Alfie, I admit it. In fact all the goals were good goals. Very different from the majority of goals in the Saturday game. I don't care what anyone says, Alfie lining up and targeting the Ducks' captain with that shot at the end of the period was a gutless, idiotic move. Intent to injure? The Ducks didn't get drawn into that shit and it ends up being the turning point in the game (and maybe Series) IMHO. That's not the kind of move a "leader" pulls off ... then the cowardly gloved shot to the face of the Duck player along the boards. How the Sens didn't end up short handed to start the next period is beyond me. I also can't believe how Kelly Hrudy thought it was a cool play by Alfie. Fischer looked awesome again. Fuck, give that dude the "C" already. He's shown up for every game in this round so far. Emery's save on that 2 on 1 was incredible. He kept 'em alive at that point for sure. However, Emery's Hasek-like flop to the ice after the contact with Getzlaf was pathetic. Bad call by the ref there, IMHO. Should have at least penalized both of 'em.
  24. Booche, that's an oxymoron if I ever heard one. Come on ... "Neil thinking"? THat's a good one . He did do a great dive in the first period though!
