  1. Just get Steinbrenner to take on 2/3rds of his salaray (or more) and he'd be a steal!! It's happened before (they were talkin' about the Doyle Alexander deal back in '85 on the radio this morning). Makes sense to me.
  2. Don & Ron and Bob Cole I can handle ... It's that useless drunk Harry Neale who I can't stand. He absolutely sucks! 5. Not feeling the need to talk trash and hoist the Cup over my head after one game ... that's where . I thought the Sens and Leafs played equally as mediocre as one another the first night. The Sen that has impressed me the most in the first two games is Eaves. Man, he's fun to watch. Back to scheduling commercials for the next Sens game on CBC tomorrow ... I'm telling you, if you want to make bets with somebody watching the game, I can tell you what commercials will come up next and you can earn some good beer money Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  6. lol ... I love the Sens ... i make money off of them every year ... i just bet on them to lose in the playoffs (double-or-nothing if they win a round). Got my bro-in-law for $50 at this time last year that the Sens wouldn't even make it to the Cup final. I tried to take bets with some other Sens fans to see how much they believed in their team when they were being touted as the next Champions last year. Even when the playoffs were about to start, none of 'em would put their money where their mouth was (except my bro-in-law). Later . . . Kanada Kev =8) np: Sugaree - gd1982-12-31
  7. http://daily.stanford.edu/article/2006/10/6/downloadFestival I was following the above link referencing Jerry Garcia. It was from a review for a festival called Download 2006. There was a description of a band: I HAD to look this band up. TV on the Radio. Haven't listened to any of them yet, but take a look at this dude. He could be Jerry's black brother! Here's their homepage: http://www.tvontheradio.com/ Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  8. I was a disbeliever too. However, i have come around and find this one to have legs of its own now. Last season was an absolute riot! Haven't watched the episodes from this season yet, but everyone is raving about them. Go out and rent the second season, then start watching. Steve Carroll is brilliant. Not a Ricky Gervais clone, but has built the character as his own now. Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  9. Wow ... i was suprised at the level of trash-talking around the net after Game 1 of the season. Made me laugh. Anyone predicting where teams will place in the new NHL, at this point in the season, is being completely naiive. Last night was a complete SPANKING of the Sens. Humbled has gotta be the theme in their dressing room for the next couple of days. Should be interesting to see how they recover from a defeat like that ... that will be a good barometer of what to expect for the rest of the season. The Leafs looked fantastic last night, IMHO. I know that every game won't be like that, but they dominated that game hands down. I love what Maurice is doing behind the bench. I love seeing Sundin on for so much more ice time than in the "Quinn era". Think about how much he could have done if he had been allowed to play more. What a shame. This year will be a stellar one for him. Wellwood on his wing is exciting to watch too. For a little guy, he can take the physical abuse too. Peca is a joy to watch as well. He will be a big asset to the team this year. When was the last time you saw the Leafs get 40 shots on net??!?!!? (and more than 30 in the previous game too!) Oh well, still basking in the glory of a stupendous Leaf victory. I'm sure it will fade in a few days. Got a call for GOLD SEATS for the Toronto v Montreal game this saturday and i can't go THAT SUCKS! Family can really get in the way of fun sometimes Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  10. Well put MarcO. I'm with you on all accounts. Whatever floats some people's boats ... fine ... just don't let it infringe on my good times. The last Phish show I went to (Darien Lake with the killer Suzy Greenberg and Drowned!!) had such a dicey and ugly scene out in the lot. Pharmie kids running around with cell phones and two-way radios looking to hook people up with anything off their menu of dozens of items ... none on them of course, they'd call the order in. Saw people get into fights, break bottles to use as weapons, gangster rap on blasters walking through the lot, negative vibes everywhere. When I went into the show I had a tweaked out kid run full steam into me and we cracked skulls! He was running from security for doing something stupid and my night almost gets ruined. I can't believe it didn't knock me out. I'm a peaceful man, but holy shit, i came pretty damn close to messing that kid up. Not the vibe i want at a show. I was so happy that the music transcended the lot bullshit that night. Trey was a man possessed. We were 4th row right in front of him. He was wayyyy out there. Don't know if it was his own consumables that got him there or whether he was really riding a killer musical wave. It was a positive feeling and the night ended well. Anyone else at that one?
  11. Actually she loves the Leafs: Really, she loves all pro sports teams. She's a sportslut and I love her too . I did a quick search and take a look at the following link. She gets a jersey for the local team in EVERY town!!! She gets around http://members.aol.com/muzikguy94/shania_uptourpics.html
  12. My expressvu PVR has only one tuner ... between the hockey game and Lost premier on west coast feed, i couldn't record either broadcast of the Jerry Garcia bio. Oh well, have to catch it next time around.
  13. Thanks so much for this link. I'm totally digging the recordings from Trey's basement with Tom Marshall. Really interesting to hear some of that material. np: Antelope later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  14. On September 28th, Phish (or at least Trey) literally "rolled" into The Rink in Buffalo, New York where they awarded the "Longest Distance Traveled Award" to friend Henry Petras before beginning the second set honoring him for making the trip from Palo Alto, California to Auburn, Maine for the Amy's Farm show the previous August. Set two opened with Llama, contained a middle-of-the set Antelope and closed with Mike's > Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove. During Weekapaug, Trey donned rollerblades and skated through the audience while playing his (wireless) guitar. The encore was appropriately Contact followed by the month's second Creature. Saturday, September 28, 1991 The Rink, Buffalo, NY Set I: The Landlady > Bouncing Around the Room, Chalk Dust Torture, The Squirming Coil, My Sweet One, Stash, Eliza, Foam, Brother, Golgi Apparatus, Memories Set II: Llama, Guelah Papyrus, Sparkle, Cavern, Run Like an Antelope, Lawn Boy, The Lizards, Poor Heart, Magilla, Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove Encore: Contact > Big Black Furry Creature from Mars Show Notes: Before Llama, an award was presented for longest distance traveled for any Phish gig to Henry Petras, who traveled to Amy's Farm from Palo Alto, California. During Weekapaug, Trey soloed while riding through the crowd on rollerblades. BBFCFM featured "I Love Lucy" theme teases and Antelope featured an early Simpsons Signal. After Brother, Trey wished a happy birthday to "Dmitri." Eliza was played for the first time since November 24, 1990 (82 shows).
  15. The 92 Spectrum show was a blast. I remember meeting folks from Rochester at the bar. Great show too. Really sucked me in to the band after a couple of years of some friends trying to help me "get it". The show wasn't all ages, as I remember some helpless folks stuck outside with tix, not being allowed in. I'm pissed for missing the '91 Buffalo show that they tried to drag me to that was at a roller rink. Trey did a solo skating around the room! Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  16. I haven't watched yet ... gonna do the 'recap' episode then last night's tonight (but then again hockey is on so ....) Lost is just one big mindfuck ... love it.

  20. Nope, you're just seeing them try to lure in votes from the "medicated" population of the US for mid-terms ... seriously, think about the timing, and how many people in the US that this makes happy! WOW. Slick work Georgie!

  23. LOL ... nope, not quite. I did have a nice '78 Westy for a number of years that I thoroughly enjoyed. Had to let him go though. 25. Out of context quote: SWEET!! real story (still good news ): U.S. to Allow Canadian Drug Imports The government will stop seizing pharmacies' shipments and instead conduct sample tests. By Lisa Girion, Times Staff Writer October 4, 2006 The federal government plans to halt a controversial crackdown on discount drugs mailed from Canadian pharmacies to U.S. customers, removing a significant hurdle to Americans buying cheaper medications from abroad. The Department of Homeland Security, which operates the Customs and Border Protection agency, disclosed this week that it would halt confiscation of Canadian drugs Monday and instead conduct random sampling to identify counterfeit and unsafe drugs. Popular medications such as Lipitor and Fosamax can be 30% to 80% cheaper from Canada and other countries, surveys have shown. But the U.S. government was confiscating as much as 20% of the shipments this year. The move reverses a policy that began last November around the time enrollment began for the Medicare drug plan. U.S. officials said the Canadian shipments had been confiscated out of concerns about the drugs' safety, but consumer advocates and others contended that the crackdown was an effort to limit competition in the pharmaceutical market and force seniors to sign up for new Medicare plans and pay higher prices for drugs from U.S. pharmacies. The new testing policy may be a response to criticism that the government has offered little evidence for its safety concerns about foreign mail-order drugs. The change comes as millions of seniors on Medicare drug plans were expected to hit the "doughnut hole." That is the gap in coverage created by Medicare law that requires enrollees to pay the full cost after their total annual drug spending exceeds $2,250. Coverage kicks in again if annual drug expenses hit $5,100. As a result, many low-income seniors were considering going without needed medications through the end of the year, advocates said. The change in customs' practices "could have a huge impact," said Jodi Reid, director of the California Alliance for Retired Americans. "People were concerned that they might not get their drugs because they were getting seized," Reid said. "This does open that option again for people who were trying to figure out how to get their medications to manage their health at a price they can afford." One Central California woman whose blood pressure medication was seized a few months ago said she was relieved that she might not have to worry about that — at least for now. "I hope that it continues because so many people are in need of the ability to purchase maintenance medications and life-sustaining medications at more affordable prices," said the woman, who asked that her name not be used. "Some of these medications are $3, $4, $10 a pill." Although it is illegal for individuals to import pharmaceuticals to take advantage of price differences, the Food and Drug Administration historically had turned a blind eye to personal purchases of nonnarcotic prescription drugs from places such as Canada and Mexico in shipments of as much as three months' worth. That changed Nov. 17 when customs began a quiet crackdown on foreign mail-order drugs. By some estimates, more than 40,000 packages were interdicted. Canadian mail-order pharmacies said seizures jumped to a peak this year of 20% of their U.S. shipments, up from 3% to 5%. They said seizures declined after the crackdown was disclosed in media reports. Seniors complained that they were failing to receive needed medications, and members of Congress who favor the importation of cheap drugs for senior constituents criticized the agency for failing to adequately warn people of the crackdown. Late Monday, customs officials sent an e-mail to some members of Congress that it would be abandoning the seizure policy. Instead of the broad effort, the e-mail said the agency would sample and test mail-order medications for counterfeits and ineffective ingredients on "randomly generated days throughout the fiscal year." The analysis, it said, would help determine the source countries of problem drugs and shape future enforcement. A Homeland Security spokeswoman would not discuss the change in policy, but she issued a statement saying, "While we are reversing this policy, [Customs and Border Protection] remains committed, in cooperation with the FDA, to protecting the American public from unsafe and ineffective medications. We will be focusing our resources to best protect the American public." A spokeswoman for the FDA said the agency had no comment because it had not been officially informed of the change. One Canadian mail-order pharmacy said U.S. orders had dropped 30% this year because seniors were signing up for Medicare plans and had been scared off by the increase in seizures. Bill Pigden, a spokesman for Winnipeg, Canada-based CanAmerica Global Health Services, said that the pharmacy already had seen orders pick up as seniors fell into the so-called doughnut hole, and that he expected that trend to increase with the change in seizure policy. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) called the change a "huge victory." "For nearly a year the White House has been punishing seniors for filling their prescriptions at lower Canadian prices," he said. "Now it looks like the government is getting out of the business of harassing these consumers." In Congress, political momentum in favor of allowing personal importation of prescription medications is building. House and Senate Republicans recently reached an agreement that would allow Americans to bring a 90-day supply of drugs across the border from Canada. But, in negotiations over the language of the Homeland Security spending bill, the conferees stopped short of doing the same for medications purchased via the Internet.
