  1. http://bit.ly/fNbppG Ray Charles – Rare Genius The Undiscovered Masters Culled from four decades worth of demos and other previously unreleased material, Rare Genius showcases the remarkable artistic vision, stylistic range and emotionally rich vocals that crafted Charles enduring legacy. Listening to the ten gems from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s that comprise this CD, fans will have no trouble envisioning the late singer rocking back and forth at the piano as he effortlessly segues between R&B/soul, pop, country and gospel. “Ray would always get inside the meaning of a lyric and make the listener believe every word,†says Concord Music Group Chief Creative Officer, John Burk. “His vocals carried incredible emotion and intensity, even on demo tapes. What we have here with Rare Genius is on par with some of his greatest works.†And that’s crystal clear right from the album’s sparkling opener, “Love’s Gonna Bite You Back.†The March 1980 session track features an upbeat horn arrangement behind what Rare Genius liner notes author Bill Dahl calls “a Charles vocal that’s a signature mixture of sandpaper grit and heavenly goodness.†Up next is the stunning ballad “It Hurts to Be in Love,†which underscores the album’s main thematic focus and one of Charles’ favorite subjects: the ups and down of romance. Another compelling standout is the gospel-stirred Charles and Cash duet on Kris Kristofferson’s “Why Me, Lord?†Discovered in the Sony vaults, the song was produced by Billy Sherrill in Nashville and recorded in 1981 for an anticipated release on a CBS album. For unknown reasons, that didn’t come to pass. What’s more important, however, is the emotional charge you get listening to these two powerful voices come together in this spirited and inspired pairing. Except for “Lord,†the nine other Rare Genius tracks including the soul-drenched “I Don’t Want No One But You,†a blues-infused cover of songwriter Hank Cochran’s country classic “A Little Bitty Tear†and the joyous “I’m Gonna Keep on Singin’†were found in the vault at Charles’ R.P.M. International Studios in Los Angeles. Adding a little sweetening to some of the sparse, stripped-down tracks was a team of top-notch musicians and artists: guitarists Keb’ Mo’ and George Doering, organist Bobby Sparks, trumpeter Gray Grant, trombonist Alan Kaplan, bassists Trey Henry and Chuck Berghofer, drummers Gregg Field and Ray Brinker and background vocalist Eric Benet. As with its Concord predecessor, 2004′s Grammy-winning Album of the Year Genius Loves Company, Rare Genius: The Undiscovered Masters is another fitting tribute to Charles, who would have turned 80 on September 23, 2010. It’s a fresh, vibrant reaffirmation of the music icon’s unparalleled artistry and legacy. — Amazon.com MP3@320CBR Track List 1. Love’s Gonna Bite You Back 3:54 2. It Hurts To Be In Love 4:53 3. 2. http://bit.ly/ht8mJY “The Quintet†– Complete Jazz at Massey Hall Jazz at Massey Hall is a renowned jazz album featuring a live performance by “The Quintet†on 15 May 1953 at Massey Hall in Toronto. The quintet was composed of some of the time’s biggest names in jazz: Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach. It was the only time that the five men recorded together as a unit, and it was the last recorded meeting of Parker and Gillespie. Parker played a Grafton saxophone on this date; he could not be listed on the original album cover for contractual reasons, so was billed as “Charlie Chan†(an allusion to the fictional detective and to Parker’s wife Chan). The record was originally issued on Mingus’s label Debut, from a recording made by the Toronto New Jazz Society. Mingus took the recording to New York where he and Max Roach dubbed in the bass lines, which were under-recorded on most of the tunes, and exchanged Mingus soloing on “All the Things You Are.†The original plan was for the Jazz Society and the musicians to share the profits from the recording. However the audience was so small that the Society was unable to pay the musicians’ fees. The musicians were all given NSF checks, and only Parker was able to actually cash his; Gillespie complained that he did not receive his fee “for years and yearsâ€. A 2004 re-issue contains the full concert, without the over-dubbing which was added by Charles Mingus on the original recording. The new version was titled “Complete Jazz at Massey Hallâ€. Jazz at Massey Hall was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1995. It is included in National Public Radio’s “Basic Jazz Libraryâ€. The concert was issued in some territories under the tag “the greatest jazz concert everâ€. —Wikipedia MP3@320CBR Track List 1. “Perdido†(Juan Tizol, Hans Lengfelder, Ervin M. 5. Wow. Was i ever underwhelmed by last night's show. I know that a concert experience can be completely different for each attendee and I'm sure many had an amazing show last night. I found the sound to be horrendous. Positioned beside the sbd and the levels were so hot that the PA was pumping out a completely distorted sound to my ears. No clarity or distinction between voices and instruments created an over-bearing muddy sound. I was trying to determine if the sound was killing an otherwise kickass performance, but it was hard to tell. For a band with such sweet vocals and normally tight playing it was lost. These guys need to be in a much better room with a way better sound mix for me to catch them again. Blue Rodeo and Wilco will get my concert dollars much sooner. Nice hanging with you again Brian and bumping into Chad and Jay too (and a brief hello with GrooveFetish?)
  6. I remember when that video came out and was THE height of computer graphics at the time Ooooooh aaaahhhh ... Still a great f'in song and it was HUGE back then. "Money for nothin' and my "attractive female acquaintances" for free"
  7. http://bit.ly/hjqTnt The Avett Brothers – Live, Volume 3 Their first major label release, I And Love And You, may have reflected more-mature production and craftsman-like arrangements, but live performances by The Avett Brothers retain the hard-driving, extremely loose, spirit and hillbilly-meets-punk amalgam of folk, country, rock and bluegrass that has brought the brother-led group to the forefront of contemporary acoustic music. Recorded before a hometown crowd, at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina, in August 2009, a month prior to the release of “I And Love And You,†the Avetts’ third live album documents the unabashed joy of their shows. The passion is sometimes overwhelming, such as when Scott Avett forgets the words of “The Ballad Of Love And Hate,†and is forced to stop and start again. Though the emphasis is on tunes from I And Love And You (“Head Full Of Doubt/Road Full Of Promise,†“The Perfect Spaceâ€, “Kick Drum Heart,†and the title track), the 16-song set touches on every step of the Avett Brothers’ decade-long climb. —Craig Harris (Chicopee, MA) MP3@V0 Track List 1. 13. http://bit.ly/fJk1i6 Eric Clapton – 461 Ocean Boulevard [Deluxe Edition] 461 Ocean Boulevard is Eric Clapton’s second studio solo album, arriving after his side project of Derek and the Dominos and a long struggle with heroin addiction. Although there are some new reggae influences, the album doesn’t sound all that different from the rock, pop, blues, country, and R&B amalgam of Eric Clapton. However, 461 Ocean Boulevard is a tighter, more focused outing that enables Clapton to stretch out instrumentally. Furthermore, the pop concessions on the album — the sleek production, the concise running times — don’t detract from the rootsy origins of the material, whether it’s Johnny Otis’ “Willie and the Hand Jive,†the traditional blues “Motherless Children,†Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff,†or Clapton’s emotional original “Let It Grow.†With its relaxed, friendly atmosphere and strong bluesy roots, 461 Ocean Boulevard set the template for Clapton’s ’70s albums. Though he tried hard to make an album exactly like it, he never quite managed to replicate its charms. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine “461 Ocean Boulevard – Deluxe Edition†has grown from the original 40 min. album to an exquisite 2CD spread (26 tracks, 142 min.), and quite comfortably at that. CD1 (15 tracks, 69 min.) brings of course the original 10 tracks, and they still sparkle today as they did 30 years ago. The remastered sound is fantastic. It has of course the hits “I Shot the Sheriffâ€, “Willie and the Hand Jiveâ€, and “Motherless Children†(all from the original Side 1), but there really are no weak songs here. Other classics include “Let It Growâ€, the pensive “I Can’t Hold Outâ€, and the album closer “Mainline Floridaâ€. The 5 bonus tracks are session out-takes from the album recordings, they have appeared elsewhere before on various compilations such as “Crossroadsâ€, but are grouped together here for the first time. My fave of them is “Meet Me (At the Bottom)â€, a mostly instrumental jam session. CD2 (11 tracks, 73 min.) is a live album, recorded in London at the end of the 461 Ocean Blvd tour in December, 1974. After the announcer’s “Well Ladies and Gentlemen, this is it, the last show of the tour, please welcome Mr. Eric Clapton and his band!â€, we’re in for a treat. Only 3 of the 11 tracks have appeared before on the Crossroads compilations. The highlights are many, including “Let It Growâ€, the Steve Winwood cover “Can’t Find My Way Homeâ€, a rousing “Tell the Truthâ€, the Jimi Hendrickx cover “Little Wingâ€, and the closer “Let It Rainâ€, with at the end EC simply saying “bye bye, thank you†to an elated audience. - amazon.com MP3@320CBR Track List CD1 01.
