  1. The great, Nina Simone: http://bit.ly/hVH4V2 Nina Simone – Let It Be Me (Live at Vine St.) Nina Simone’s live performances have a power and an intimacy all their own, and those qualities stand out in this 1987 recording from Vine Street. It’s a stunning form of cabaret singing, dramatic without melodrama, and with roots that reach to Billie Holiday’s surprising success with “Strange Fruit.†Simone can add profundity to a usually carefree song like “My Baby Just Cares for Me,†and the range of the performance broadens with the startling “Be My Husband,†a simple pattern reduced to the naked force of a field holler, and the stark hymn “Balm in Gilead.†Carefully chosen songs from Randy Newman, Bob Dylan, and Janis Ian achieve new dimensions in Simone’s treatments. Her own deeply felt “Four Women†and “Mississippi Goddam†are potent and enduring protests. There’s some effectively spare accompaniment from guitar, bass, and drums, but Simone’s piano is the essential instrumental voice, from slow barrelhouse to Bach. - Stuart Broomer MP3@320CBR Track List 01 – My Baby Just Cares For Me 02 – Sugar In My Bowl 03 – Fodder On My Wings 04 – Be My Husband 05 – Just Like A Woman 06 – Balm In Gilead 07 – Stars 08 – If You Pray Right 09 – If You Knew Let It Be Me 10 – Four Women 11 – Mississippi Goddam 12 – Baltimore http://bit.ly/hVH4V2

  3. Well they almost blew it like the Juniors, but this goal is damn fine:
  4. That shoot out goal was a beauty. In case anyone missed it:
  5. UGH ... Hit a kid what does it teach them? The way to solve the problem is through violence. This is why it is a repeated behaviour. Why would anyone who got beaten as a child want to beat their own child when they know what it's like? It's the easy way out. Why not? Why would you not beat your child? You have exposed the greatness of it as a teaching tool so why not use it instead of risking your child becoming a gangsta?

In an argument about god and religion, he proclaims that we don't know what causes oceanic tides. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/01/bill-oreilly-claims-explain-oceanic-tides/ "I'll tell you why [religion is] not a scam," he said. "In my opinion -- alright? Tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can't explain that. You can't explain why the tide goes in." Silverman looked befuddled. "Tide goes in, tide goes ... out?" he asked. "See, the water, the tide-- it comes in and it goes out, Mr. Silverman," O'Reilly repeated. "It always goes in, then it goes out." "Maybe it's Thor up on Mount Olympus who's making the tides go in and out," Silverman retorted. "No-no-no!" the host objected. "You can't explain that. You can't explain it."
  7. CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. -- An unruly Team Russia was booted from a flight at the Buffalo airport while trying to get home after winning the gold medal at the world junior hockey championships. Airport spokesman C. Douglas Hartmayer says all 32 or so members of the Russian contingent were asked to get off a Delta flight headed to Atlanta after boarding for takeoff early Thursday morning. Hartmayer says the group then left the terminal but didn't know where it went. Tournament officials had no immediate comment. A call to a Delta spokeswoman wasn't immediately returned. Russia overcame a three-goal deficit in the third period to stun Canada 5-3 in the gold-medal game Wednesday night.
  8. Russian takeover in the 3rd. That was truly amazing (albeit for the wrong team). Changing their goalie for the 3rd too ... what a difference. Well done Canada. Come back and win it next year. At least you got back at the US for taking it last year Don't forget what happened tonight. Congrats Russia. Comeback kids is right (come from behind wins against Fin Swe Can!!!!)
  9. I found this recording, which might be the one you saw. Aloha, Brad Close Brad. It was the year before. July 07. http://www.newmastersounds.com/media/index.php?setid=72157602132529526
  10. I'd rather have all those cops at check-points asking for ID and nailing people for "insignificant" secondary bs, out on the roads PATROLLING and watching for erratic driving. Not only would they be able to catch inebriated drivers, but also those equally as dangerous texting their friends while driving. Add to that, why is it that they think drunk drivers are out there more in December and not in April? Sure, xmas parties etc, but those who are chronic drunk drivers do so all year long. Checkpoints success rates are not good enough. But are they truly a deterrent? Of those CHARGED, let's just see how many are CONVICTED. The numbers start to look more strange.

  13. In case you haven't heard The New Mastersounds yet, this is a fantastic introduction. I first saw these guys about four years ago at Gratefulfest on their tiny second stage. They were absolutely amazing. Groovin' side stage with the kids http://bit.ly/fZBnDs The New Mastersounds – Masterology: The Pioneers of New British Funk The New Mastersounds hit the Brit-funk scene in 2000, with a stripped-down music that was equal parts Meters groove, the syncopated invention of the J.B.’s’ rhythm section, and the good-time feel of prime Booker T. & the MG’s. That said, while deeply influenced — to the point of obsession — with the aforementioned artists, this quartet has put its own stamp on tight, dynamic instrumental funk. On Masterology, the band’s musical development is charted from its first single, 2000′s “Ode to Bobbie Gentry,†right through to “Dusty Groove,†from 2009′s Ten Years On. Other highlights include — but are far from limited to — the woolly psychedelic funk in “La Cova†from their debut concert album, the skittering soul-jazz of “Colorado Sun (Jesse’s Backyard)†from 102%, and the break-driven syncopation of “Can’t Hold Me Down†from Be Yourself. The punchy guitar groove in “Thermal Bad†from Plug & Play, the shimmering groove in “Idris,†and the closing cover of Jack McDuff’s “Butter for Yo’ Popcorn,†from a French single, testify that the New Mastersounds are much more than retro funkateers; they are genuine innovators capable of putting their own stamp on whatever they choose to play. There is an earlier compilation entitled An Introduction to the New Mastersounds, released by Légère Recordings in 2007, but since only three tracks are duplicated, interested parties need have no fear. This set is the better of the two and offers a more well-rounded introduction to the band. - Thom Jurek MP3@320CBR Track List 1. Baby Bouncer (3:08) 2. Can’t Hold Me Down (3:02) 3. Crock Pot

THIS is the recipe. I'm telling you, YUMMY!!! You can toss them on the grill for the last bit instead of putting them back into the crock pot: Smoky-Flavored Barbequed Ribs straight out of Betty Crocker Slow Cooker Cookbook 3 1/2 lbs pork loin back ribs (we've used other varieties as well, and they're just as tasty) 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 tsp. fresh ground pepper 3 tbsps. liquid smoke (we used hickory flavored) 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped 1 tsp salt 1 medium onion, sliced 1/2 cup cola (we used regular Coca-Cola) 1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce (spicy is what I prefer) 1. Spray the inside of a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. 2. Remove inner skin from the ribs. Mix brown sugar, pepper, liquid smoke, garlic and salt together in a bowl and rub this mixture onto the ribs. Cut ribs into 4 inch pieces, then layer ribs and onion in the slow cooker. Pour cola over everything. 3. Cover and cook on a low heat setting for 8-9 hours or until ribs are tender (believe me, they're tender by then). Remove the ribs from slow cooker, and drain and discard the liquid. 4. Pour the BBQ sauce into a shallow bowl. Dip each of the rib pieces into sauce. Return the ribs to the slow cooker. Pour any remaining sauce over the ribs, then cover and cook on low for 1 hour.

  16. http://bit.ly/gEXZKa Neil Young & Crazy Horse – Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere Neil Young’s second solo album, released only four months after his first, was nearly a total rejection of that polished effort. Though a couple of songs, “Round Round (It Won’t Be Long)†and “The Losing End (When You’re On),†shared that album’s country-folk style, they were altogether livelier and more assured. The difference was that, while Neil Young was a solo effort, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere marked the beginning of Young’s recording association with Crazy Horse, the trio of Danny Whitten (guitar), Ralph Molina (drums), and Billy Talbot (bass) that Young had drawn from the struggling local Los Angeles group the Rockets. With them, Young quickly cut a set of loose, guitar-heavy rock songs — “Cinnamon Girl,†“Down by the River,†and “Cowgirl in the Sand†— that redefined him as a rock & roll artist. The songs were deliberately underwritten and sketchy as compositions, their lyrics more suggestive than complete, but that made them useful as frames on which to hang the extended improvisations (“River†and “Cowgirl†were each in the nine-to-ten-minute range) Young played with Crazy Horse and to reflect the ominous tone of his singing. Young lowered his voice from the near-falsetto employed on his debut to a more expressive range, and he sang with greater confidence, accompanied by Whitten and, on “Round Round,†by Robin Lane. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere was breathtakingly different when it appeared in May 1969, both for Young and for rock in general, and it reversed his commercial fortunes, becoming a moderate hit. (Young’s joining Crosby, Stills & Nash the month after its release didn’t hurt his profile, of course.) A year and a half after its release, it became a gold album, and it has since gone platinum. And it set a musical pattern Young and his many musical descendants have followed ever since; almost 30 years later, he was still playing this sort of music with Crazy Horse, and a lot of contemporary bands were playing music clearly influenced by it. - William Ruhlmann MP3@320CBR Track List 1. “Cinnamon Girl†– 2:58 2. “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere†– 2:26 3. “Round & Round (It Won’t Be Long)†– 5:49 4. “Down by the River†– 9:13 5. “The Losing End (When You’re On)†– 4:03 6. “Running Dry (Requiem for the Rockets)†– 5:30 7. “Cowgirl in the Sand†– 10:06 http://bit.ly/gEXZKa
