  1. don't know why they don't offer $5 tix or something for the rest of the season. They had an attendance of what the other night? 10,000? pah! I was walking by the dome at lunch today. Could have walked right in. Too bad work gets in the way
  2. You gotta dive into it and give it some attention. Big headphones really help Listen to what Neil is singing about. It is interesting as much of what he is emoting hasn't been done by him before. You can really get the sense that he is thinking about life and experiences in a new light. A lot of reflection and reminiscing. References to songs from his past too. Commentary on the world today. Lanois goes for a soundscape. I love how the sound that got laid down is so clearly Lanois and Young. I would love to see them perform some of this stuff together. Want to see something incredible, watch video of Lanois playing a mixing board like an instrument. it is incredible what he picks up on. Watch his move Here Is What It Is. Some will like, some won't. That's cool
  3. http://bit.ly/dblcTj Miles Davis – Miles Davis at Carnegie Hall It’s good to see that record companies sometimes are able to get a grip and correct the mistakes of the past. Columbia has certainly tried its best to do justice to the magnificent recorded legacy of Miles Davis and this album is a part of that effort. This album assembles the complete Miles Davis Quintet / Gil Evans Orchestra concert recorded on May 19, 1961 at the Carnegie Hall, putting everything at the original recording order without editing or dubbed applause (the music included here was previously available on two separate albums: “Miles Davis At Carnegie Hall†and “More Music From The Legendary Carnegie Hall Concertâ€). This album is of course a perfect companion to the sublime Columbia 6 CDs box set “Miles Davis & Gil Evans: The Complete Columbia Studio Recordingsâ€, especially as the concert was the first time Miles performed with the Gil Evans Orchestra live. 1961 marked an extremely busy and productive year for Miles. Following the departure of John Coltrane and Bill Evans, the “first†legendary Miles Davis Quintet was history and Miles quickly organized a new Quintet, which was to be his vehicle for an interim period of about two years, until the “second†legendary Quintet was to rise like a phoenix and take Jazz places never dreamt about. The “interim†Quintet included excellent and experienced players: Hank Mobley – saxophone, Wynton Kelly – piano, Paul Chambers – bass and Jimmy Cobb – drums (the last two were remaining members from the “first†Quintet). These players followed their leader with skill and devotion, creating some of the best modern jazz on record. Just one month before this concert the Quintet recorded a magnificent live album “Miles Davis In Person†(which is now available as a 4 CDs box set “In Person Friday And Saturday Nights At The Blackhawk, Completeâ€). The studio album “Someday My Prince Will Come†was recorded just a couple of months before the Carnegie concert recording. The next (and last) studio recording with Gil Evens (“Quiet Nightsâ€) was just months ahead. Looking back at this period it becomes plainly evident that Miles was already “miles ahead†in his mind, looking for a new vehicle and a new direction, which would commence shortly with the formation of the new Quintet and the groundbreaking new album ahead (“Seven Steps To Heavenâ€). That of course makes this music no less magnificent, as Miles was destined to be “in transition†for the duration of his entire career. It remains here, recorded for posterity, for us mortals to enjoy (almost 46 years later), loosing absolutely nothing of its relevance and eternal beauty. Miles of course was one of the very few artists, who made a statement with every note they played. As such, these notes are a source of inspiration and joy for those who love this music. The Pizza Tapes CD (2000) soon became an acoustic classic and one of Acoustic Disc’s most popular releases. Now here’s the Extra Large 170-minute edition of this legendary session, including 16 previously unissued alternate takes in addition to the original master takes in their original sequence. 9. Jimi http://bit.ly/aOyfH7 Jimi Hendrix – Axis Bold As Love [2010 remaster] The sensational sophomore release of The Jimi Hendrix Experience highlights Hendrix’s own evolving musical experimentalism and acknowledges his early musical influences of soul and R&B. Remastered from the original two-track mixdown master tapes, Axis: Bold As Love’s 13-songs show the evolving trio as they neared the height of their career. Features the seminal classics “Spanish Castle Magic,†“Little Wing,†“Castles Made Of Sand,†and the classic Easy Rider anthem, “If 6 Was 9.†Jimi Hendrix’s second album doesn’t resonate through rock history the way its gatecrashing predecessor, Are You Experienced?, does. In places, it almost seems as if Hendrix is cruising, albeit sublimely. Yet it’s a vital album, containing some of rock’s molten milestones. There’s the fluid psychedelia of “Castles Made of Sand,†the viciously funky “Little Miss Lover,†and the so-beautiful-it-hurts “Little Wing.†Hendrix really hits altitude with “If 6 Was 9,†where he waves his “freak flag high†over a tidal wave of guitar and a cacophonous army of Moroccan flutes, and he ends with “Bold As Love,†based around Hendrix’s typically far-fetched hankering for the axis of the planet to be tilted, thereby transforming life on earth. It works up into a head-melting frenzy of distorted guitar, a precursor to the staggeringly expansive leap forward he would take with 1968′s Electric Ladyland. Hendrix dreamed the impossible and achieved it on his guitar. – amazon.com mp3@320CBR Tracklist 01. EXP 02. Up From The Skies 03. Spanish Castle Magic 04. Wait Until Tomorrow 05. Ain’t No Telling 06. 13. Well, Roger Waters week is over in Toronto now. Wish I could have gone a second time to try to take in more and catch stuff that I missed first time around. Oh well, maybe if they do a second leg of the tour ... or do an evening in Barfalo http://bit.ly/d09KVS Roger Waters – To Kill The Child / Leaving Beirut Roger Waters / lead vocals, guitar, bass & keyboards PP Arnold / vocals Graham Broad / drums Andy Fairweather-Low / guitar Carol Kenyon / vocals Katie Kissoon / vocals Sony CD-Single Limited Edition (Was available for a limited time as a download from WATERS’ official website) To Kill the Child: lyrics The first song of the single runs at 3 minutes and 31 seconds. The lyrics open with the image of a child sleeping “in the glow of [a] Donald Duck lightâ€, possibly a reference to Waters’ prior song “The Tide Is Turningâ€. Waters goes on to ask why a culture whose primary concerns are luxury, consumption and petty values would “kill the child,†no doubt in reference to his view on how war is orchestrated in order to satisfy mass production and paranoia, regardless of who is killed. The song ends with a plea to protect children from the crusade-waging “bigots and bully boys / Slugging it out in the yard.†Leaving Beirut: lyrics The second track of the single runs at 12 minutes and 29 seconds. Most of the song’s lyrics are derived from a short story about Waters’ hitchhiking excursion in Lebanon when he was a teenager. These passages, intoned in monologue over a descending synthesizer ostinato, are interspersed with more recently-penned refrains outlining Waters’ reaction to United States and United Kingdom involvement in the Iraq War. Waters has performed the song at every show on his The Dark Side of the Moon Live tour, replacing the spoken-word recitation with a visual backdrop of the story as a graphic novel. - Wikipedia mp3@320CBR Tracklist 1. 15. This collaboration had me excited from day one. Gotta listen to this and see how it turned out. Dug the first bits released the other week. Here's the rest. Oh Fuck Yeah!!! http://bit.ly/cfy3Ke This eight-song album is a collaboration between the acclaimed rock icon and musician, songwriter, and producer Daniel Lanois, known for his work with U2 Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, The Neville Brothers and many others. As producer or co-producer Lanois won Grammy Awards in 1987, 1992, 1997, 2000, and 2001. Young and Lanois have crossed paths musically over the course of many years including Lanois' performances at Young's Bridge School Benefit Concert and Young's performance at Farm Aid when Lanois was Willie Nelson's music director but this is the first time the two have recorded together. Recorded in Lanois' home in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles, 'Le Noise' features Young on acoustic and electric guitars with Lanois adding his trademark sonic textures creating one of the most sonically arresting albums Young has ever recorded. No band, no overdubs, just 'a man on a stool and me doing a nice job on the recording,' as Lanois puts it 'Neil was so appreciative of the sonics that we presented to him,' Lanois says 'He walked in the door and I put an acoustic guitar into his hands - one that I had been working on to build a new sound. That's the multi-layered acoustic sound that you hear on the songs 'Love and War' and 'Peaceful Valley Boulevard.' I wanted him to understand that I've spent years dedicated to the sonics in my home and that I wanted to give him something he'd never heard before. He picked up that instrument, which had everything - an acoustic sound, electronica, bass sounds - and he knew as soon as he played it that we had taken the acoustic guitar to a new level. It's hard to come up with a new sound at the back end of 50 years of rock and roll, but I think we did it.' mp3@200kbps avg mp3@320CBR Tracklist 1. Walk With Me 4:26 2. Sign Of Love 3:58 3. 16. What Phish should do for Halloween http://bit.ly/bggoWS Genesis – The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is an incredible achievement of artistic ambition and serious musicianship led on the heals of five very talented head strong men all thinking that they knew what direction the band should go in. The end result is something so confusing to follow yet strangely exciting that people will be listening to it for many years to come wondering about it’s mystery just as one wonders about the Mona Lisa’s smile. Of course the musicians involved have no answers themselves. The new blend of musical ideas such as Eno-esque soundscapes (Brian Eno actually worked on this album), incredibly inventive drumming by Phil Collins; Peter Gabriel pushing his voice to new arenas of sound (he never sounded better before or since) making each character and emotion have it’s own voice; Tony Banks creating amazing keyboard passages that rank with anything that Keith Emerson had ever done; Steve Hackett, always under used but always finding just the right phrase to add to put a song to the top; and Mike Rutherford played great bass throughout the album (check out: In the Cage). The theme of Lamb Lies Down on Broadway itself seems to be too much of an enigma but the bottom line is that it is about the inner turmoil of a young NY punk trying to get it together. There are liner notes in the CD further explaining the story, but you need a magnifying glass to read them and even if you do have good eye sight you still may not see what the hell is going on. But since when in art are you supposed to figure it all out at once. The music is more the focal point anyway- the songs work well individually and as well as collectively baring (at times)the theme. For me the first disc has always captured my attention a bit more than the second. We start out with a manic piano diddle that swirls around until it comes down at hits you “and the lamb… lies down… on broa-wo-adway..†Guitar riffs tripping down Rael’s voice is heard- he’s a kid that hears all the sounds sees all the sights and is working towards sensory overload. The song works almost like a Bob Dylan type observational song. You get that through this he becomes alienated from his surrounding. As the songs continue the alienation and confusion take more of a hold and they are expressed with such eloquence both in the clarity of the phrasing and the utter babble of the lyrics. The irony is that as degenerately abstract as the first disc gets the second disc is complete madness. The music is all over the place (the chamber was most definitely in confusion), yet there is a sense of cohesion here as well as passage. The songs lend to each other a complementary feeling making the music feel like a ’67 Coltrane solo without sounding like one. Which all leads to what Coltrane was trying to talk about, “what is “itâ€?â€. In summation Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is better than anything that has been done in the last 30 years (of course that’s my opinion), the album is all about alienation and they didn’t have to say the word once (take note radiohead). The music is still extremely vibrant and vivid sounding like it was created today- and explains the turmoil of dealing with modern times very well. Genesis never made an album like this before or after. Peter Gabriel left the band after this and made some terrific solo albums but never captured what made Lamb Lies Down on Broadway so alluring and ambitious. Genesis moved on to make some very beautiful albums (that made it sound like L.L.D.o.B. never happened) basically Trick of the Tail sounds like a follow up to Selling England by the Pound. I recommend this to anyone regardless of musical preference who wants a good intellectual challenge and to be highly entertained. – allismile0 For an unbelievably detailed account of “what is The Lamb†about, check out The Annotated Lamb Lies Down ! 17. http://bit.ly/bTORex Jackson Browne – Late For The Sky His third album, and arguably his finest, Late for the Sky continues Browne’s sincere self-analysis into positively grim territory. The title track concerns the lingering effects of a dead relationship and was featured in Martin Scorcese’s film Taxi Driver. While “For a Dancer†confronts death head-on, “Farther On†explains the difficulties faced by us dorks who live life through books, films, or music; and “Before the Deluge†forecasts environmental gloom and doom. Guitarist David Lindley adds terrific counterpoint to Browne’s musing, supporting the tracks with tasteful slide and fiddle work. –Rob O’Connor On his third album, Jackson Browne returned to the themes of his debut record (love, loss, identity, apocalypse) and, amazingly, delved even deeper into them. “For a Dancer,†a meditation on death like the first album’s “Song for Adam,†is a more eloquent eulogy; “Farther On†extends the “moving on†point of “Looking Into Youâ€; “Before the Deluge†is a glimpse beyond the apocalypse evoked on “My Opening Farewell†and the second album’s “For Everyman.†If Browne had seemed to question everything in his first records, here he even questioned himself. “For me some words come easy, but I know that they don’t mean that much,†he sang on the opening track, “Late for the Sky,†and added in “Farther On,†“I’m not sure what I’m trying to say.†Yet his seeming uncertainty and self-doubt reflected the size and complexity of the problems he was addressing in these songs, and few had ever explored such territory, much less mapped it so well. “The Late Show,†the album’s thematic center, doubted but ultimately affirmed the nature of relationships, while by the end, “After the Deluge,†if “only a few survived,†the human race continued nonetheless. It was a lot to put into a pop music album, but Browne stretched the limits of what could be found in what he called “the beauty in songs,†just as Bob Dylan had a decade before. - William Ruhlmann mp3@320CBR Tracklist 1. “Late for the Sky†– 5:36 2. “Fountain of Sorrow†– 6:42 3. “Farther On†– 5:17 4. “The Late Show†– 5:09 5. “The Road and the Sky†– 3:04 6. “For a Dancer†– 4:42 7. “Walking Slow†– 3:50 8. “Before the Deluge†– 6:18 http://bit.ly/bTORex
