  1. The Grammar Police?? That's rich. Oh, I think everyone who's reading this thread should take a peek at one of the foremost advocates of hunting- the Nuge meister himself:

    www.tnugent.com

    With such inspiring messages as:

"Win a FREE hunt with Ted Nugent!"

    "Pig killers unite!"

"It is obvious as hell that my gravity defying career & energy come from not just the ultrachow venison for my belly, but far more importantly, the dynamo protein I derive from each step beyond the pavement for my soul."

    Wow....

  2. Nicely put, Dennis....this is a touchy issue but I think you are right in saying it really is the bands responsibilty to negotiate things with the bar. I am not trying to defend Dekcuf, we certainly don't make enough $ to afford a $300 recording when we have friends who will do it for free (friends who have devoted good $ into good equipment for just that purpose). But if they are trying to run a dual business, bar/recording facility, there must be an understanding between both business parties (or some good stealth; eh, Harpua?). Anyway, I would certainly rather have tapers allowed free rein, bootlegs that circulate are one of the best forms of promotion for bands of our nature, imo. Cheers...

  3. Hey you guys thanks alot for coming out on a Thursday night, I had a blast.... I just got out of bed after the graveyard shift on the drive back to TO...you are right Harpua, that's Travelin' Matt (so named from everybody's friend uncle Travelin' Matt from Fraggle Rock). As for next time, I think we are looking at early May...but I'll get back to you on that (promoter code). I must say, last night was a good example of the relationship between band and crowd, we saw the crowd (small but mighty) getting into it so we got into it. Thanks to those who came out and made that happen, and looking forward to the next show in Ottawa... you guys rule. Think I'll go back to bed now...

  4. Hey Giggles, just like in your profile, it's a bit fuzzy, I'll let you know. It was funny watching Fishman though, every once in a while somebody would recognize him and freak out a bit, and he would blow them off. Oh, and Tenenbaum, yeah, the glowstick war at the Went was tremendously tremendous. I think Trey's words were "hey chris, lets turn down the lights and all trip out to the moon together". Something like that. Oh, the memories.

  5. OK, this post was brought on by all the talk of Oswego (abnd the fact that I'm drunk). First night of Oswego, after the show, hanging out in the Green, which was the B-stage area, coming down offa dose listening to a crazy DJ spinning stuff...I lean over to my buddy Geoff and say, "Man, that looks like Jon Fishman over there...". My buddy says "man, that IS Jon Fishman". Proceeded to spend the next 30 minutes staring at Fish just hanging out trying to be discreet... he had chicks and joints and stuff... about 15 feet away from where our little posse was crashed out on the grass. Just then, the DJ starts spinning Misty Mountain Hop. I jump up, with a huge burst of energy and start playing air drumns. I look over, and Fishman is doing the same thing!! Two nights later, Phish plays Misty Mountain Hop for the first time.... and in Toronto. Coincedence?? Who knows. Maybe he woke up the next day and said "Boys, we should throw another Zeppy tune together." Well, that's my little story. Boring?? Who knows. Well, I better turn in. I gotta get up and drive to friggin' Ottawa tomorrow. And all you skanks, I mean, Sanctuarians I do or don't know better come and gimme a boot in the arse if yer at the Cafe Dekcuf tomorrow night(tonight actually).

  6. Good idea for a thread....Rift was the first Phish I heard in any form...loaned to me by a friend I was playing in a band with who first heard it through a friend at Mt. Allison U in New Brunswick. After that, I bought Billy Breathes just after it came out and proceeded to buy all the albums....still hadn't heard any live stuff (except "A Live One") when me and about 10 other people from PEI went to The Great Went(only 6 hrs from PEI)..... Makisupa opener... into Harpua. Hadn't heard either song before. Sooooo good. If anyone else was there, they might remember the sun breaking through the clouds when Trey kicked out his super held note in YEM..... I think it was the second set that first day I still regard as one of the best sets I ever saw (a super sick Bathtub Gin). Anyway...

  7. I've got 1 of my 3 basses in on consignment now, I can't get another. Its a real beaut too, the one I'm selling, a sunburst 1972 Precision, it broke my heart to bring it in(tears welling as i write this). Yes, GAS (I call it Gear Acquistion Syndrome) is a cruel mistress, a bitch-goddess, giveth with one hand, taketh with the other. My poor Visa is under quite a strain these days( attention bass players- check out www.clubbass.ca for some really high end equipment, I went into the show room yesterday and spent $250 without blinking).

  8. ...and you started this topic with the big thumbs up, eh? You must be Irish to be partying at somebody's funeral. Poor leafs....I was and still am a Habs man, but its hard not to get caught up in it all when you move into a hockey town. They said on the news that he might have been on the outs with Quinn a bit anyway, after the whole Olympic thing. And its the last year of his contract.....

  9. ....and have a chicken shawarma at Baba's while you're there...that or a chicken club on lebanese bread with cheese(you have ask for the cheese or you won't get it). MMMMMMMMmmmmmmm man, I'm hungry. And I wanna go home. On second thought, I'm going to Pat Metheny next week. Think I'll stay.

  10. OK, please forgive me, but its time for a little SSP (shameless-self-promotion). The big reason I'm putting this here is because there was a screw-up with posters and this is our first time to Kingston....anyway, DownTime is playing at the Scherzo this Thursday, and I'd love to see a few Kingston sanctuarians out....I know you're out there!! Drop by for a drink and say hello.... sorry and thanks for your time.

  11. All 3 relate to the same trip for me....Fall '99 me and 3 buddies bought a big, sweet 1980 Vandura van, complete with the captain's chairs, shag carpet, and couch that folded out into a bed. We left after my last band's final gig, a Hallowe'en weekend gig at the Tidal Pool in St. Andrew's(one of my favourite places in the world). Anyway, drove right across Canada staying with friends and family in most major centres, as well as just pulling over and sleeping in the van a few times( and barbequeing hamburgers in a bear warning zone in Jasper). Then headed down the west coast, did Seattle, San Fran, L.A., Vegas, Grand Canyon, then across to San Antonio. Left the van and took a bus to Acapulco for a week(the bus ride was definitely not a highlight), but stopped in Monterrey, Mexico to see Santana. Back to San Antonio then up to Dallas to see Lynryd Skynyrd and ZZTop....over to Memphis, then Georgia, then of course, Big Cypress for NYE. Headed back up the east coast, myself and another buddy got out in Washington and took a train to Chicago. Stayed 2 weeks before taking a bus to Detroit to see opening night of CSN&Y. Then a bus home.... lots of wicked, wicked times, but I guess the best part was Big Cypress, I particularly liked the afternoon set 12/31/99 (Runaway Jim, Funky Bitch), I guess because I was almost at the front of the stage. Whew, and that's my blabber for the day.

  12. Hey, hey, hey, thought I would resurrect this thread from 3 pages back, I have a damn opinion on everything today....am listening to Uberjam on headphones as I type this and it freakin' rips! There has been a very distinct evolution in Scofield's last 3 releases (of this style of music- I know he released a more pure jazz album in the last couple of years, but I'm not talking about it), from A-go-go to Bump to Uberjam. This new album has some samples and electronic tidbits, even a rap in one song!!! Done by the drummer, Adam Deitch. It has been released as The John Scofield Band too, so looks like we can expect some more super cool stuff from these cats. I saw the rhythm guitar player Avi Bortnik and bass player Jesse Murphy in the Scofield band summer 2000....I still say that was the musical highlight of my life so far. This is a great album!! Check it out....

  13. Do it for sure!! Wicked movie, I know there have already been some people writing about it here, but I didn't get my 2 cents in then(its all about the 2 cents-everybody wants their 2 cents in- and no, I don't know where to find a damn cents symbol, me's compyooter illiterate). Wicked movie from start to finish, my favourite parts were definitely the shots of Jerry hanging out at Dave's place.....just the boys sittin' around playing tunes and shootin' the shit- and there's one time when Jerry puts his guitar down and gets up as if he is going to leave and then sits back down- and David says "Did you forget something?" Jerry picks up the guitar, starts playing and says, "No, I remembered something." Looks like he was able to get away from it all and just hang out with his buddy....probably a rare thing for him. Anyway, see this damn movie, its awesome(I got to see it in the supercool Bloor cinema, too).

    And that's my 2 CENTS.
