  1. I think this is hilarious: http://www.cbc.ca/cp/Oddities/070126/K01269AU.html SAGINAW, Mich. (CP) - Late-night funnyman Stephen Colbert had a lot riding on Friday night's Ontario Hockey League game between the Saginaw Spirit and the Oshawa Generals. The host of the satirical news program "The Colbert Report" (pronounced coal-BEAR RAY-pore), has thrown his support behind the Spirit in recent months after learning that the Michigan team had named its mascot Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle, as a tribute to him. Colbert has since done some trash-talking about other OHL teams, particularly the Oshawa Generals. After the Generals recently beat the Spirit on home turf, the Oshawa team held its annual teddy bear toss for charity. Colbert took mock offence and aired footage of the stunt, calling it "an obvious attempt to taunt me." In retaliation, he encouraged Saginaw fans to throw General Motors annual earnings reports on the ice during Friday's game against the Oshawa Generals in Michigan. He even posted a downloadable link to the financial reports on his website. That prompted Oshawa Mayor John Gray to issue a challenge to Colbert on a local radio station. Gray said if the Oshawa Generals win the game, Colbert must wear a Generals jersey for an entire show. However, if the Spirit wins, Gray must declare Colbert's birthday "Stephen Colbert Day" in Oshawa. Colbert accepted the challenge on his show Thursday night, but said he wants his day to be declared on Gray's birthday, March 20. "Listen up Gray, I'm not afraid of you," said Colbert.
  2. Yeah, well, I strongly disagree... Chris can write all the hits, but he writes a lot of misses. Andrew writes one or two per album, and I don't think I hear even a faint twinge of "80's crap rock ya-yas." A few of his songs: People of the Sky 400 Metres 500 Up Sinking Ships In The Movies Helen Before I Do A Side Wins On The Horizon Sensory Deprivation I Can't Sleep The N.S. The Great Wall Never Seeing The Ground For The Sky "80's crap rock ya-yas?" Ya, right. I really doubt you saw a show where Andrew did "6 or 7" songs. Chris' ego wouldn't allow that. I've seen a lot of Sloan shows and Andrew has never played more than 3 a night on guitar in my memory. And as far as how they're still together, here's a quote from a recent interview: Anyways, you were right, I disagree. At least there's something for everyone to like in Sloan. I celebrate their entire catalog. AD
  3. Loved Gish as well, just thought Siamese Dream was stronger start to finish. But yeah, both awesome albums.
  4. Ding Ding Ding Ding!! Exactly. Billie will play all his crap Mellon Collie stuff and it will suck even more than Zwan. AD
  5. I'd love to see them play, but only stuff from Siamese Dream and earlier. I haaaaaaaaaated everything after that. Siamese Dream was a perfect album.
  6. [color:purple]yes, definitely. phish are back together!
  7. haha i got rejected for that, they already had too many people when i showed up. my family was just driving by and i saw chris on the street so i got out to see what was happening. they had no use for me.
  8. they released a couple crappy albums on squirtgun and folded. i might still have 'Flamethrower' kicking around. She was hot, the singer chick. I loved watching her. She dated Mike from The New Grand who is now the bass player in Paso Mino... And as if you liked them more than the Super Friendz.
  9. actually i have a lot of old halifax / moncton stuff. let me know if there's anything you want and i can see if i have it. compilations, albums, rarities.. i have a bunch. although now that i say that i'll probably have nothing of what you're looking for.
  10. if you want a good quality rip of that and slide show, i can upload them when i get home.
  11. Mock Up Scale Down is the best Canadian pop album, period. The other stuff, decent, but they nailed it with the debut. I was at the record release party for that as well, cruising around on an overloaded boat in Halifax harbour, Chris Murphy on drums. I watched shoulder to shoulder with Joel Plaskett and Rob Benvie, Colin Mackenzie or some other 'honcho' guy from murderrecords was right behind me gushing about the Superfriendz, I had to shush him to hear the music. Their reunion tour a couple years ago was the biggest disappointment that I can remember lately. 1:15 of poorly played Superfriendz songs, for $15 or $25. Although they played the intro to Turn It On (Genesis) which was hilarious. Looks like Charles Austin is doing the best out of all of them now, with all his work with Buck 65 and Neusiland. Although that Guy Terrifico movie was pretty cool too. I hated Flashing Lights AD
  12. Anyone hitting this show? The only time I've seen these guys, last year opening for Wolf Parade in Montreal, they put on an awesome show. I'm 75% sure I'll be there
  13. Sinking Ships is one of the best songs they (Andrew) have. It's their 'Day in the Life' On the Horizon is goood. I like Andrew's songs =) I'd love to see that show Saturday. But I'll be in Ottawa.
  14. There are a few not-so-hot songs on the new disc, but I love how T Rex drips out of the single. Also nice to hear many new Andrew songs. I think he's the best writer out of the 4, but you need all 4 of them to make it work. Hope they come back to Ottawa soon, I've been unable to see them up here the past 4 times they've come through. Funny enough, last time I saw them was in California.
  15. I have always loved Sloan and always will. As for that review; meh. There are always bad reviews, I've given a lot.
  16. did you follow this guide? http://jiggafellz.isa-geek.net/eac/
  17. Go Dance Into the Light
  18. Link to articles about The Sun
  19. well, the UK sun is a trashy tabloid, just wouldn't read much into what they write. i'd love to see that show though
  20. The Sun... A band insider said last night: “If the right offer comes up they will do it.†Trinifold added: “Jimmy is itching to do something, but there is nothing firm yet.†Maybe the right offer will come up sometime soon and something firm will come along, until then I'm not getting excited. Page & Plant was pretty good...
  21. This will be very good...
