  1. same birthday as me, must be good.
  2. in about 5 different threads, yeah.
  3. there's a shitty recording of the show i'm talking about here - http://mockingmusic.blogspot.com/2006/12/folk-night-in-ottawa.html sound quality is sucky, my friend amanda keeps yelling over the guy's mics, and the popcorn story isn't 6 minutes like i remember. it's much shorter. but still as funny.
  4. someone walked into the bar with popcorn, dick smelled it, thought that maybe he stashed some popcorn in the back of jimmie's amp on the drive to ottawa and now that the amp was hot it was cooking.... etc etc. 1a. SEE THEM LIVE! 1. Get the 'There are days...' ep - can be downloaded for cheap from Zunior 2. Listen to the CBC Radio 3 session 3. Listen to the 'Trying to Get Somewhere' album 4. There are 5 older albums for free download at http://www.shotgunandjaybird.com/discography.htm but it isn't their best work. I don't think Julie was on board until 'There are days'... Here's their promo of the newest album:
  5. the last ottawa show, they had to cut 2 songs from the setlist because Dick had a 6 minute stream of conciousness story about popcorn exploding out of the back of jimmy's amp... people were doubled over laughing it was so funny. julie had to leave the stage and hold herself up on the wall to keep upright from the laughter. they are coming through ontario with the constantines and jon-rae and the oversingers sometime in march.
  6. did i mention they sound exactly like Pavement, except with a sense of humour? (that's a good thing, in my books) their shows are 3/4 music, 1/4 hilarious stand-up banter.
  7. 2 km of the skateway are opening tomorrow morning!! The section from Pretoria to Bank St will be ready to roll. I'm pumped, I love the canal.
  8. dude, you need speakers
  9. it kinda got discussed, in a time warp fashion in the politics forum.... you missed all the fun
  10. from Glide Magazine The initial artist announcement for this summer's Bonnaroo Music Festival will be on Wednesday, February 14th. This announcement will include an initial lineup of artists, as well as ticket on-sale information for the festival being held June 14-17, 2007. Isn't this a bit late compared to past years? Wish the tickets went on sale earlier... Budgeting is harrrrrrd AD
  11. Man I have a good memory... And that's when you started smoking... Right? Fuck I have a good memory. I know what you mean. I'm still going to go but it will be painful. AD
  12. LAME is an mp3 encoder - it needs WAV files to encode from. EAC will extract the WAV files from the CD, it then calls LAME to encode to MP3. here is a super duper guide - http://jiggafellz.isa-geek.net/eac/ Use the V0 or V2 presets if you'll be sharing your music on OiNK and other sites, people seem to cream their pants over those settings.
  13. Jon Claytor - he's an artist, took most of the pictures on her album covers, did the cover art, etc. They had 3 kids together. He's a nice guy, I've chatted a few times with him. She's coming through most of our markets in March with Shotgun & Jaybird (the awesome band she plays with when not doing her solo work). Most likely will do a tour behind her album, probably Europe first. She's not big on updating websites though. You'd best get on this Shotgun & Jaybird train, they're great. (Although their album doesn't hold a candle to the live show). Their EP from last year is good, and you can listen to a CBC Radio 3 session online somewhere.
  14. i use EAC with LAME and get perfect rips every time.

  16. haha good times... yeah i know it wasn't Crappy Tire, but you never know... You coulda been going over the Rogers Pass when your brakes turn to liquid and you say 'Man I could really use those Monroe brake pads. Lifetime Warranty! And me and my creepy neighbour can install ourselves!' Thanks for the pics, that was a funny day.
  17. .... until the muffler falls off your car and you need duct tape in the middle of nowhere.... =)
  18. Puke. Have you ever been to Bluesfest?
  19. if you put this album in contrast to everything i've ever heard about her and Jon from past albums, shows, conversations, interviews etc it's pretty shocking that they've broken up, IF that is true. Note that there's no confirmation or anything, other than her songs have always been personal. You never know, she could be in character for this one.
  20. the last song - 'untitled' - was a last minute addition that is heartbreaking to listen to. it's definitely about a breakup of some kind.
  21. maybe it's that first pressing that thegoodrev is talking about.
  22. yeah - a version from oink matched the kev's cuts version. i am now wondering if the crappy version is a demo or something, if someone recognises it? or if it's a detuned, slow pace, chopped up lacklustre version. but since oink can get me a crisp version of the album i'll grab it off there and forget about all this nonsense. sorry to confuse you all.
  23. tell us more about An Arctic Turn....
  24. Ding Ding Ding Ding!!! (except jazzier)
