  1. Awesome job, s-w and all involved. Man, I love watching my phriends get organized enough to make this sort of thing possible. It's because of guys you and the fine pholks here at jambands.ca, Scene and Heard, Greg H. and everybody else that ensures that this scene will be alive and thriving for years to come.

A big Scottie hug to ya all! [big Grin]

  2. This is a BAD idea for the states.

Saddam doesn't have the balls to make the first move and the States does not need another war in the Middle East. The War on Terrorism is already cost more lives than they are releasing to the media and quite frankly, this is not a cakewalk.

The lessons of history have taught us that anytime an empire has spread itself too thin, the barbarians at the gate will not necessarily topple, but certainly assist in its collapse.

  3. Woo-hoo! It's back. Five disc rotation time again. To be honest, I'd have to go with one-disc rotation in and out of my car stereo with all the travellin I've been doin

For those of you new here, choose 5 heavy rotation discs that haven't seemed to leave your CD player in the last month or so

    Without further adieus or don'ts...

    1. The Last Waltz Box Set - The Band and the known musical universe at that time -Okay, so already I'm cheating but come on. Finally got my hands on this puppy and it was worth the weight....haha

    2. DJ Shadow - Private Press - It's not Endtroducing but the best driving music going these days

    3. Dick's Picks 4 - Hearing the Mason's Children on Tuesday got to pull this one out - Good summer time memories

    4. Jack Johnson - Bonneroo Set - Some people hate him - I love him

    5. Trey Anastasio BAND - Bonneroo Sets - This band has definitely left our solar system

I just picked up the new Sonic Youth today and imagine it will soon become a fast favourite.

Current book recommendation : Lost Girls by Andrew Pyper - a coke-snorting T.O. lawyer defends an english teacher for the murder of two missing girls - takes place in cottage country northern Ont - really strong first effort

Movie of the week: Orange County - Jack Black is the man

    That's it. Filler up!

  4. The opinions expressed by the following people DO represent the views of Scottieking and his hat.

The shows: Fun (Nero boys, I lost my shit)

Hey it was great partyin with ya in Frontiertown again. Thanks to bsherman for hosting these. See most of you for Phil day!

  6. Just checkin in late (quite frankly just getting home) to put in my two cents on the whole weekend. First of all, thanks again to the Mark's (wilson and tonin) for all their hard work. As well, it was great to see the Santu-city up and running. Sorry about the killer-tarp attempt!

As for the music, I was only there for the now contriversial Sunday line-up. Having careful read everything over, there is a couple of things that we have to realize. First, both bands played well. Maybe not the best we've ever heard from both, but they did play good shows.

Second, it was a hot summer evening coupled with heavy intake and/or from what I understand most of our crew overdoing it the night before and that may have drained the energy levels of all involved.

Finally, we also have to be aware of our personal biases. Think about who you know the best personally, who you secretly (or not so) would have like to have seen close CTMF and the argument does slightly become tinted. I'm going to go on the record as saying that I really enjoyed the Nero set and probably didn't give the BNB set it's dues due to wandering, partying and lack of attention although what I heard I liked.

But as usual, it truly was the people that made it. Stay tuned for some pictures coming your way soon.

    suunydaze,

  7. While holding a post Bonnaroo news conference, Trey Anastasio was stopped mid sentence when he :

    a) noticed Owsley's secret stash hidden in Phil's right ear

    B) has already taken Owsley's secret stash and sees Jerry Bears coming out of Phil's right ear

    c) not so subtly tries to ask "Who is this guy in beard to my right and why does he keep pointing at an imaginary crowd every couple of minutes?"

  8. SCHOOL'S OUT .....FOR..... SUMMER!

Sorry folks, just had to share my utter joy. I still find it strange to think "Hmm, I have the next 60 someodd days off"

Anyway, looking forward to seeing most of you this summer. I tend to wander so I'll be posting less but living more. Speaking of seeing you, here's some places were I know I'll be!

CTMF on Sunday Only - Due to an extremely shitty decision by my mom, family function on Sat - the good news - I grew up fifteen minutes away! Save me a spot on the edge of Santu-city.

Phil/moe/soulive and then Nero! - Woo boy! Can not wait!

If you live anywhere near Grand Bend ON - every Monday night I run a jam night and No Applause Wednesday's with Scottie King on July 3, July 24 and Aug 14 at Gables - will there be Brittany? We'll see.....

Evolve?- This one is up in the air due to neck surgery I have to have soon - they can't book it until after a CaT scan in a week but they expect it to be late summer or early fall - 10 day recovery or so - so the answer is if no surgery expect me in the EAST (Northern Wish I'll be in touch)

Plus possible Ottawa road trip at the end of July and hey if you got a suggestion, let me know. I'll probably be up for it.

Anyway, just had to share the joy. See you out there!

  9. First off, I gotta say Radiohead may have saved my life a few times. They are a default ,go to, if I need to be inspired by some different music.

Here's the thing I really dig about them and someone up there said this already; they really are pioneers. They explore corners of not just rock, but music in general that no one has yet. Not to mention, the intangiable emotion in their music that seems to draw the same out in me. It's really interesting to watch my students and they're listening habits. And in an unofficial study, it seems to me that the most interesting ones are embracing Radiohead in the way that I embraced Floyd in my teens. Now I'm not saying they ARE the new Floyd, but I'm more speaking of any music that made you listen, that you studied, revisited, constantly found new things and yet had no idea what to expect next. For some, jazz. For some, the Dead (for me, that came a little later) For some, Phish. You get what I mean?

Anyway, short story long, Radiohead is good and anyone who thinks different can answer to the Karma Police.
