  2. Religion ... philosophy ... irrational beliefs ... whatever you want to call it, I think the point is that it's irrelevant to how much you like or don't like his music. If not for the horrible sound every time I saw him, I'd still want to see him again; regardless of the Scientology-thing. For instance, Henry Rollins was always a complete jerk, and has been rude as hell to a friend of mine. I still dig Black Flag and the Henry Rollins Band, though.

  5. I've seen him five times. Every time the sound sucked so badly, I finally gave up. I love Beck's music, too, but save your money and spend it on his discs.
  6. Okay, I am starting to think that this band is intentionally trying to avoid its fans. This is not the first Brett Fulsom "reunion" show I heard about too late. I was 20 minutes from Port Carling on Saturday night. Only now, though, while flipping through a local magazine from that area that I picked up this weekend, do I find out that the Brett Fulsom Band played at the Port Carling Memorial Oddfellows' Hall on Saturday night! So, I was twenty minutes away, doing nothing and then going to bed early; when I could have seen one of my favourite old-time Canadian jambands. Those guys need to get a publicist. Geez!
  7. The baby? She's a grandmother. She holds the baby until she cries or poos, and then it's over to us... In her world, it's just a living doll she can brag about and show off; with no reponsbility attached. Gotta envy that.
  8. It's my topic, and I say that any punk band with any song gets in. If they screamed it at a punk show, that's an "official release" in that genre; in my books. Nice, Hart.
  9. hahahaha! Yes. I do have that effect on people. She isn't the first young lady I've made scream and cry. Here's a link to most of the photos of her online.   10. I love Jackfruit. They have a completely unique sound. Chris is also my favourite front-man in the West. I was a big fan of Slow Nerve Action before Jackfruit. If you dig Blue Quarter, as many do, a bunch of those guys are in JF, too. You should see them. You'll be glad you did. They were my easy favourite at Bonfire in 2006, and put on amazing shows every time I've seen them.
  11. They are amazing on the highway. I took it to Muskoka and back just today. We have a second car for the child, because you cannot legally put a car-seat in a two-seater. She isn't always with us, for instance every day when I go to work and back, and it is "smart" to use less car most of the time if that is all you need; which is the case with us (and I think most people).

  16. Well, Lassie and I just received a very cool surprise for our new daughter in the mail from two of my favourite Skanks. Thanks guys. It's all very cool stuff, but in particular those are our first "tub toys", which apparently we need. Awesome. You guys rock. C/SM & K/L
  17. Hmmmm.... My understanding from the Aussies that visit Canada is that a company here actually came up with one of the funniest jokes in Australia. (The name of their kids line of clothes, was almost beyond funny to the point of being really offensive.)

  20. I think that is the mistake made here. Neil made fun of advertising like that in the song, and parodied the commercial in his video. Although I really have no problem with bands endorsing things to earn a living, I would be appalled to hear Neil did it, because he has been so adamantly against that type of thing in the past. ... and I agree with the lovely young lady above. Ween is not a jamband.

  22. Personally, it doesn't bother me when bands make money from their songs in various ways. As far as whether they had control, though, in Canada and in all other jurisdictions in the world that subscribe to the Berne Convention, which is most Western nations, moral rights remain with the author of a work, even where the work, or the copyright in the work, has been sold or assigned. Among other things, the moral rights give the author the right to control what the work is or is not associated with. (The idea, for instance, is to allow an author to always have the right to say, "No. I don't care if you bought all other rights to my song. I will still prohibit you from using it in that Hitler Youth recruitment video." There are some good policy-reasons for this.) In the U.S., though, I am quite certain an author can waive those moral rights by contract. So, essentially, if Wilco still had the moral rights they could have stopped this useage of their work. If they sold the moral rights by waiving them pursuant to contract, well then they did exactly what this thread suggests they did; they gave up control of their work for money.
  23. The new one in Dubai is an office building. It is actually the official goal of the government of Dubai to build the "biggest" ... "tallest" ... "largest" ... etc. everything in the world. Why? Just because they can afford to. (Wasn't Napoleon French; not Arab?)
  24. I believe phistaper is referring to the fact that most of their hits were stolen (borrowed?) from Robert Johnson or other blues greats.
