  2. Actually, QQC, now that you mention it this is the first category into which I can't fit Zappa, apart from a couple that were intentionally posted to exclude him. Maybe my entry in this theme created a problem...
  3. What's with the waning participation in this thread? I intentionally stopped including Zappa songs, as a result of comments by people who seemed to be growing tired of it. It still seems, though, that interest is being lost in this game?

  5. That link was interesting, Brad. The only way I knew of the fruit called "jackfruit" was from my grandfather reminiscing about growing up in Jamaica. I had no idea it was all over the world, and he always wondered if that was even the real name of the fruit (since he's never seen it in Canada). Cool stuff.

  10. I don't consider Wassabi to be boring reggae at all. If anything, I think of them as a very modern, fresh spin on the reggae sound; combined with cool electronica. That said, I love Jackfruit. Chris is an incredible showman, and their sound is really different, contemporary, and fun. I wish it was so simple as to say "boring reggae" vs. "quick changes, intelligent songwriting and great musicianship". If that were true, I would have no problem deciding. Rather, though, having seen both bands a number of times I truly enjoy both of their shows, every time. I also find that both bands are getting better and better. (I actually think I've already made my choice about that night, though, but it is more to do with my wife's preference than my own. I'm leaving you all in suspense; as if you actually care where I spend my Friday night lol.) Keep the input coming, though. It's always appreciated, and no decision is set in stone.

  12. Hmmmmm. Given your excitement, I think I'd better listen to their disc again, and consider this. I hate to regret missing a worthwhile show, especially after having been given fair warning.

  14. I'm kind of leaning toward Jackfruit at the moment. I've seen both bands quite a bit, although Wassabi more, but I really dig both of them, but they're totally different, but it's been longer since I've seen Jackfruit, and I miss Slow Nerve Action, but I'm probably guest-listed for Wassabi... Argh!
  15. That makes sense. It's the same thing with a little festival happening here, in Markham. He's the only name on it, so far.
  16. How annoying. I may do one set at each, though. I could swing it. It's a tough choice between the two.
  17. So, I just noticed Jackfruit is playing on the same night as Wassabi in Toronto. As an ex-British Columbian, this seems to me like pretty poor planning. I wanna complain to the Management! (Where is Rancho Relaxo, anyway? In fact, where is Reverb, for that matter? I might have to run back and forth between shows.)
  18. Bruce Cockburn is playing the Kaslo Jazz Fest this year. I haven't been able to find a link to this year's lineup, so I don't know who else is playing, but if someone has such a link, it'd be cool if you posted it in this thread...
