  1. Ya. I was aware of the name and all that. I found it odd that he called them the Grateful Dead from back then, and I told him they were likely called The Warlocks. I suspect he may have filled in the name since then, though, given that they called themselves the Grateful Dead from then until about the early-90s when they brought back "The Warlocks" for a few weird shows. Sooooo ... fine. Does anyone have any The Warlocks from 1964 in San Francisco?
  2. Does that mean that my friend is misremembering the year, or that there just aren't any shows around from '64?
  3. I know someone who saw the Grateful Dead in San Francisco in 1964. That was the first time he had heard of the band, and was the last time he ever saw them play. I know it's a long-shot, because even if this was recorded I suspect that the GD played many shows in Frisco that year, but I am trying to locate a copy of that show for him. Does anyone have any live Grateful Dead from San Francisco in 1964?

  6. "Culture"? Great reggae band; for sure.

  8. I believe he meant this... ... which actually is awesome.
  9. Although I prefer the originally-reported story...
  10. Well, okay then ... Aretha. Beat that.
  11. True, but should it not actually be a "gaggle of dental-floss" in real life?
  12. Songs about Farmers and Farming, or Farm related Social Activities 1. Neil Young - Farmer John 2. Spinal Tap - Sex Farm Woman 3. The Doors - Down on the Farm (post-morrison hillarity) 4. The Housemartins - Me and the Farmer 5. Frank Zappa - Montana* 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. * Does raising a flock of dental-floss count as farming?
  13. Mt. Pleasant and Eglinton? If so, that place was famous among my friends when we were about 16, for the very fact that they didn't really seem to mind that we were only 16...
  14. Seriously? I was ripped off. (Now I'm kicking myself for failing to negotiate better at the dealership.)
  15. [color:purple]"Come on people, now, smile on your brother..."
  16. If Bjork isn't rock, would you not also say the same about Janis? Was she not a blues singer?
  17. I really dig Dr. Hook. I've seen (some version of) that band several times, and it's always fun. I probably haven't seen them in ten years, though. I say go for sure, if you're at all inclined. You'll have fun. If I'm not mistaken, there is a story about those guys bursting into the office of the Editor of Rolling Stone and playing their (soon to be) hit song. When they finished, the Editor picked up his phone and cancelled the upcoming cover, to put The Medicine Show on there in its place. (I have no idea whether or not that story is true.)
  18. Hey! I just noticed that I'm ahead of shainhouse, but he's a "Legend" and I'm a mere "World Idol". What's the deal with that discrimination? Is it because I'm really not a "legend", in that it can easily be proven that I truly exist, as opposed to a "legend", which may or may not?
  19. New theme: Home is where the bands are: Music you love from the town where you currently live. (state the place too) 1. The Wooden Stars - Country Violins (Ottawa) 2. Where's Veronica - Doorf*cker (Nanaimo) 3. Noises from the Toolshed - Half Moon Bay (Victoria) 4. nero - Breakline (Ottawa) 5. Constantines - Thieves (Guelph) 6. The Freeway Band - Crying Times (Ottawa) 7. Uncle Violet - What Will Be Done (Hamilton) 8. Moxy Fruvous - The Drinking Song (Thornhill) 9. 10. 11. 12. Okay, two comments... (1) Do I "love" that song? It's pretty good, but when you live in Thornhill your choices are limited. (2) Uncle Violet? Sweet choice! That was a great band. I really dig Mike Daley's solo stuff, too. Nice.
  20. Geez, I rank 12th. (I need to get a life!)
  21. I know that unicorn! He did the same thing to me. I can tell ya, though, that the judge didn't believe me in Court.
