  1. Does the Cajun Attic still exist? It used to be a very cool little two-storey restaurant with sofas, Mexican and Cajun food, and live jazz. It was on Laurier, on the way over to Vanier, but I suspect it is no longer. If it's still there, though, that could be very cool.
  2. I wish that I could hide away And find a wall to bang my brains I'm living in a fantasy, a nightmare dream... reality People ride about all day In metal boxes made away I wish that they would drop the bomb And kill these cunts that don't belong I hate people I hate the human race I hate people I hate your ugly face I hate people I hate your fucking mess I hate people They hate me My mother thinks that I am a jerk Because I hate my bleeding work Be like daddy he's sincere But don't be true... or you'll be queer I'm working at my 9 to 5 with boring cunts that give me jibe their talking of the love they give they never give... they never give I hate people I hate the human race I hate people I hate your ugly face I hate people I hate your fucking mess I hate people They hate me
  3. Theme: Songs About Japan or Japanese People 1. Tom Waits - Big In Japan 2. Mike Keneally & Beer For Dolphins - Live In Japan 3. Bruce Cockburn - Tokyo 4. Japan - Life in Tokyo 5. Ween - Japanese Cowboy 6. BOC - Godzilla 7. No Use For A Name - Turning Japanese 8. Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra - Hinotama Jive 9. Deep Purple - Woman from Tokyo 10. Frank Zappa - Sleep Dirt (Okay, this one is controversial, given that the song is actually instrumental. That said, the cover of the self-titled disc has a Japanese Monster "Hedorah" on it; so I'm sticking by this submission - until BradM shoots me down for some truly valid reason I am about to find out...) 11. 12.
  4. No. They're only opening the Vancouver show, unfortunately. It'll definitely be the right time to catch Toots, though; outdoors, for free and right after a day of riding. I really need to get back to the mountains. I'm suffocating in this city.
  5. Well, these reviews have been helpful. I've almost seen Toots a few times, but I've only heard poor reviews of his shows over the last few years, so for one reason or another I've skipped him every time I had a chance to see him. I'm going to see him outside at the base of the mountain in Whistler next month, though. It sounds like it should be good enough, but I shouldn't expect to have my snowboard boots blown off. Thanks for taking the time to write down your thoughts, guys.
  6. Yep. I've waited and tried to see this band for decades. I've almost seen them half a dozen times, and end up having to miss them every time. This time, of course, I'll be on the other end of the country when they're here. Fingers crossed for "next time".
  7. No; no mistake. I certainly remember Stoned Phillips' attendance... Stoned Phillips was definitely the person who kept streaking naked across the dance-floor, despite being repeatedly warned by security. I think she really got some attention, though, when she actually managed to drink a glass of white wine without spilling, while swinging upside down above the stage from some beam attached to the ceiling...
  8. Okay, given AD's clarification, I guess I can contribute to this now... Cover songs played by Canadian jambands that do better than the original. 1. Kool and the Gang - Jungle Boogie (Diesel Dog) 2. Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills (Slammin Jack) 3. Donna Summer - I Feel Love (The New Deal) 4. A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away) (Jimmy Swift Band) 5. Closer to the Heart - Rush (Rheostatics) 6. Dee-Lite - Groove is in the heart (Fat Cats) 7. Neil Young - Everybody Knows This is Nowhere (Rheostatics) 8. Elton John - Tiny Dancer (Hux Pux) 9. Havah Nagilah (along with other Jewish-jamminess) - "Traditional" (Bob Loblaw) 10. 11. 12.
  9. "Well, I'd better get out of here. I'm on my way over to my Buddhist-friend's house for dinner. He'll be annoyed if I'm late." "He'll be annoyed? He doesn't sound like a very good Buddhist." "Well, he's not that kind of Buddhist. He's a Buddhist in that he smokes lots of pot and drinks too much alcohol." "Oh; I see. Then, I guess all my friends are Buddhists."
  10. Found on the board at UpstreamEntertainment.com :
  11. The sound was somewhat lacking, compared to other Jackfruit shows I've seen, but the band was in fine form. I suspect it was more of a soundman-issue. Chris was as sexy as ever, maintaining his position as BC's greatest front-man. The new drummer was amazing, and the other two musicians blew me away in their own right. The show wasn't that long; being one set of about an hour and a half, but I definitely got my 5 bucks' worth. [color:purple]I was a little concerned that C-Towns was going to kick the bands' asses at one point, after he threatened to do so, but that's another story... I love that band.
  12. Didn't these have to be official releases? I thought of Slammin' Jack, for instance, but to my knowledge they only have one disc and it has no covers. (I don't even think that song is on the Bonfire Fest disc from 2005, which is sort of a 'release'; but I'd have to check my copy at home to be certain.)
  13. Songs with Words that have No Meaning(other than in context to the song) in the title: 1. Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man 2. Richard M. Sherman - Supercalifragilisticexpia lidocious (sung by Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins) 3. Rheostatics - The Tarleks 4. Iron Butterfly - Inagaddadavida 5. traditional-ramalamadingd ong 6. Sharon, Lois & Bram - Skinamarinky dinky doo 7. The Beatles - Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da 8. Frank Zappa - Tengo na minchia tanta 9. 10. 11. 12.
  14. Give us a post-show review, Edger. I'm planning to catch Toots in a few weeks in Whistler. I'm interested to hear about tonight. Have fun.
  15. You're right. I'm being lazy. Let me think about that for a bit...
  16. Isn't sugar a spice? (Actually, there is the term "sugar and spice and everything nice", so I guess not.) Should I delete my entry?
  17. It wouldn't be cynical. Porn has driven the proliferation of every new medium, every time one has been developed. It started with print-media, then film, then videotape, etc. If not for porn, I suspect we would never have had affordable VCRs in our homes, in the first place (let alone DVD players later on, and PPV). I am more curious to see how many "ghost" and "alien" sightings are reported as a result of this new technology. lol
  18. Well, looking at my own submission, in fairness, I don't know whether or not "rosetta" really exists. It's clearly an ingredient in the muffins made at the end of Joe's Garage, but I don't know whether or not Zappa invented the term. Anyone know? In any event, do fictional spices count?
  19. 'Kids Next Door' by Problem Children (I don't know about you, but I've certainly been one of those kids, in my time...)
  20. ok, next theme: Songs about spices 1. Macy Gray - My Nutmeg Fanstasy 2. Neil Young - Cinnamon Girl 3. Butthole Surfers - Pepper 4. Simon and Garfunkle - Scarborough Fair/Canticle 5. The Searchers - Sugar and Spice 6. Beatles - Mean Mr. Mustard 7. The Grateful Dead - Sage & Spirit 8. James Taylor - Chili Dog 9. Ziggy Marley - Herbs An' Spices 10. Frank Zappa - A Little Green Rosetta 11. 12.
  21. Hmmmmm. I'll actually be in Whistler that day. I wonder if that band still brings the funky-ska. I never did see them live. Buffalo Bills would be far from my first choice of venues, but it could be worse. I might just be at this show, actually.
  22. Theme: Songs about Cards 1. Grateful Dead - Loser 2. Motorhead - Ace of Spades 3. Kenny Rogers - The Gambler 4. Dylan - Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts 5. Frank Zappa - A Game of Cards 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.
