  1. Anyone remember a guy named Vince Carter???

Exactly! That's my point why all the loyalty to Alvin (yes I know about his good nature etc..) but they send Carter packing and the JYD.

Now Carter was a special case as he was wanting to leave but the JYD worked as hard or harder than AW for the team, was a bench leader and was way healthier than Alvin, and provided more for the team when he played...and they trade him for "sweet fuck all". That seems to be a running trend in Raptor land, trade developed players, or player with talent for nothing in return.

    That's gotta stop ASAP!.

Colin Chu, better known as Big League Chu, is simply the leading DJ talent in Canada?s breakbeat scene today. After nearly a decade of DJing, his name is synonymous with the funky, party-happy sound that?s become Chu's rallying call - and it's one that crowds answer faithfully.

Passion for music and fun are what motivates Chu, who plays the piano, flute and guitar, and counts the Dave Matthews Band and Public Enemy as his big gest musical influences. It's this good-natured respect for good times and eclectic sounds that has garnered this humble DJ of Hong Kong and Singaporean descent to such a steady stream of press, from underground publications like Tribe and Klublife to mainstream outlets like the Toronto Star and Eye weekly. His current projects include Make It Funky and the return of Kickit.

  3. i really like 95 and 96. the clifford ball is incredible.

but hey, on different days i like different years. how about arrowhead ranch 91! or the bomb factory...i think 93?!

and i dare anybody to listen to nassau 2003 (feb/28) and say phish wasnt the 'same' post-hiatus.

Agreed that the Bomb factory was a crazy show. I was also at the 2003 Miami New Years run and there were some sets that were as goood as anything I've ever seen.

But it's all about consistency and in '97/'98 it was hittin' every godamn day it seemed.

  4. The funniest thing was when the dedicated "These Eyes" Trey said "This is a cong from a great band from a great town (meaning Toronto). Dude! The Guess Who are from Winnipeg! hahahahaaa...we'll he's doing better than most Americans at geography.

were you sitting behind Fluffhead77 (brian)?

Wasn't sitting behind him but very near him, and we chatted it up a bit. Really nice to meet some folks fromt he board. :)

  5. I honestly don't know if you understand basketball Chameleon. James ripped the Timberwolves off. He isn't a point guard. He's a scorer, and an extremely selfish one at that. The Raptors never had a healthy starting point guard last year. The Spanish Calderone kid was an off-guard in Europe and his national team before playing in the NBA. Even my favourite Raptor, Alvin Williams, was converted to PG and not a true PG. Now, crazy Rafer is a PG, but clearly insane.

Oh I understand basketball quite well Jaimoe so no worries there. And for the record I am not so sad Mike James is leaving, 'cause you are right he is a scorer and a whiney bitch. My beef is they keep gettin' quality palyer or developing them and pissing them away. I hope this stops with Coangelo, seems like it may. The James trade was probably good, but the Villenuava trade could be crushing, I hope not.

Bottom line they should have kept Rafer! Sam Mitchell fucked up as a rookie coach andc lacked the skills to proprerly mentor and fix the problem. Mitchell desrves much of that blame. Now we are left to play catch up, again, on the poijt guard thing. I hope TJ ford has got the skills, I'm not sold yet.

Finally.....YOUR'RE An ALVIN "GLASS ANKLE" WILLIAMS FAN??!!! That explains every thing. Thank god he's gone, he was a dead weight around the Raptor's neck for years. Seriously overated. Perhaps the best thing they did was release him.

One thing we can both agree on...this year they better at least make it into the first round of the playoffs or it's time to move the team and burn the ACC....

  6. I am so glad this show kicked ass. It was very refreshing to see Trey and co. going for the gold witht hier jams and really pushing it. Seemed like they were all pretty pumped.

The funniest thing was when the dedicated "These Eyes" Trey said "This is a cong from a great band from a great town (meaning Toronto). Dude! The Guess Who are from Winnipeg! hahahahaaa...we'll he's doing better than most Americans at geography. Even funnier was the fact that no one seemed to know how to end "These Eyes". A the end the song modulates then goes back down and repeats. They must have done that like 5 times. At the end Trey was straining. So funny.

All and all really top notch jams and a great show.

One question though: If you quit Phish then why assemble a quartet that is basically mining the same musical territory as Phish?

Not hatin' though, and miles beyond thier Bonnaroo performance. :)

  7. Well' date=' I favour patient, fluid, extended jamming over machine-gun-perfect energy.

So my favorites are 1995, 1997 and believe it or not, 2003.

    [/quote']

i agree with your fluid extended jams comment..

much better question then the original.. it gets more into what we each like more about phish..

    like jennifer dances!

[color:purple]Ah ha! You like Jennifer Dances! This explains everything! HAAHAAa

    All jokes bro'

  8. from '83-98 were the goods!

plus the Chalkdust jam from '99 E Center!

    and dont forget 2000...

    and oh yeah 2003-2004

    come on kids..

    its all good

if someone were to give you a live phish show.. regardless of year...

are you gonna turn it down?

    WHEN THEY PLAY...

    DO WE NOT ROCK OUT!!!

You are right that even bad Phish is still pretty good. But certainly were some golden years of mindblowing music and it seemed to end at 99 for sure. Some would say 98.

Similar to the Dead, many would say that 1977 was thier best year, but no one that likes the Grateful Dead would not go to a show after that. I think seeing has most of us have seen many Phish shows, and spend much $$$, time, and effort to get to them over the years we have earned the right to be anlytical and to some extent critical of thier progress.

Bottom line Phish is still one of the best there ever was. No debate there.

  9. overall i'd probably say 1997. 98 and 99 had some killer points too though...atlanta, shoreline, etc.

    :)

True '99 did have some killer show! You're right Shoreline with Phil was stellar and Big Cypruss was insane. After that it never quite seemed the same. Glad I was there. I'm sure you guys are too.

  10. Just a question to those on the board: What years do you think were the best creatively and performance wise for Phish?

My opinion is that 1997/1998 was the high water mark. I went on both summer tours and many show in between. The jams are amazing, the funk vibrant and fresh. When I listen to those shows the band seems so full of life. Not to mention the new material from "Story of the Ghost" was killer at that time andn they had just come back from Europe. 1997 was also the year the first glow stick war happened at Loring Air Force Base for the Great Went, I remeber that like it was yesterday.

After that things were still awsome but something seemed to change a bit, things began to get a bit stale here and there.

I hope one day to feel that excitement again. Here's hoping tonights Trey, Mike & the Duo show lights a fire.

    Penny for your thoughts.....

P.S. I suggest you go to sugarmegs.org and listen to PH 08/09/97 Alpine Valley, to hear the magic.

  11. This is not the WHO people it is an overpriced cover band featuring a once great deaf guitarist and a vocalist who should know better.

I have no love for the WHO as they are now. }:(

I hope you didn't pay money to see "The Dead".

Good point, in fact I have. The main difference is that "The Dead" are not proclaiming to be the Grateful Dead, nor are have they dwindled to two surviving members and one of them being deaf. Also having said that every time I go to a "The Dead" show I always consider it the best Dead cover band in the world. I am in no way expecting a "Grateful Dead" show. The Who never make that distinction. Furhtermore "The Dead" are not charging the insane prices "the Who" are.

For the records I much prefer the solo projects of the members "Grateful Dead" as opposed to "The Dead". I also though it was a bad move renaming themselves "the Dead" from "The Other Ones".

    Huge difference dude.

  12. Agreed, james is a bit of a baby, buit 3 years for 5 million, for a starter?! That's really lowballing it.

Again I don't get the Raptor metality, they need a pointguard, which they had in James and they let him go?! So now they have to get another one that may or may nto work out. It's not that Toronto can't get respectable point guards, they just can't get them to stay!.

  13. The strange thing about Lowell George and Shakedown is that his production ruins the album. This comes from the same guy that did great work in producing great Little Feat albums like Dixie Chicken and Feats Don't Fail Me.

Lowell George was so coked out and dysfunctional that he was only really the producer by name. He couldn't finish the production and long time Jerry Band bassist John Kahn finished the producttion. So there is a clear reason why it dosen't sound as plolished as earlier Little Feat productions.
