  1. hi, it's me again.

perhaps I'm now just talking to myself in this thread but in any event, the cause of death, should you want to know (I know it is just morbid human nature) is revealed in this article.

Open it if you wish, let pass if need be. :(

marco, thanks for posting all of that, including the th elink.

i didn't know that hiring vince was a unanimous decision, and i really liked his description of jerry as "...everything you ever thought Santa Claus would be." i followed the link and i think i'm ok with knowing what it said. i guess he must have really wanted out. i can't even pop my own zits :(

  2. danger danger!

i had a 2000 sunfire which in the 4 years i had it suffered numerous "electronic module failures," none of which were $100 a pop and not covered by warranty. i also had the power steering lines rust through...the send lines went one day, and the very next day the return lines failed. when i confronted the service manager at the dealership, he told me that the 2nd set had probably failed due to rough treatment when they replaced the 1st set. not that they gave me any sort of price break...he mangnaimously gave me a coupon for a free oil change which i promptly handed back to him, all the while muttering about how they wouldn't get another cent of my maintenance money.

the kicker was when i finally went to get rid of it, the price of new sunfires had dropped so low that i got $2500 for a 4 year old car.

i swore that i would never again buy from GM.

after getting shut of my scumfire, i bought a toyota matrix, and have had 2 years of totally happy ownership.

    just saying :)

  3. I mean, hell, I remember seeing Gowan open for Rush. Does it get any more twisted?

The only thing that keeps me smiling these days when I reminisce about the '80s is thinking about the adventures timouse et al. and I got into trying to fucking survive the whole thing. I seem to recall a lot of guitar-playing in the high school stairwells and time spent in the smoking area (the very notion of a smoking area in a high school makes me feel old).

heheheee...i think i've still blotted out great swaths of high school...i do remember jamming in the very echoey starwells, and trips out to the station wagon for...umm....educational enhancement.

some of the music of the 80's, while maintaining a twisted attachement to events of the 80's, is actually not too bad. paisley's talking heads reference got me thinking...

  4. bahahahaha nambla....hilarious!!

honest to god i thought that the south park guys made that one up. the first time that i heard of both nambla and the "metrosexual" movement were on south park. what i presumed to be brilliant social satire later turns out to be real :)

    truth is stranger than fiction...

  5. i'm in the middle of another torrent at the moment, but i think next i'm going to jump on the torrent link that bouche posted - Vince Welnick and the Missing Man Formation.

...and i just watched the anthem video again too to see what the fuss was about. holey cow could that vince guy sing harmony...the three of them had a really nice blend. sort of surreal to see jump cuts from jerry to soldiers and pyrotechnics that look like explosions...

  6. Let's not forget Vince was the only member of the dead to appear on SCTV.(with the Tubes)

I love that you know that.

Well' date=' for me, Vince Welnick was a true member of the Grateful Dead and for that, I think he was kind of special. So, thanks Vince for the great memories I have of seeing you perform with my favorite band, you did your best under extremely strange circumstances. It's all too much, indeed.[/quote']

i loved that episode..."tonight, the Fishin' Musician welcomes The Tubes!" watching them walking arounf the fishing lodge in spiffy black suits was hilarious :)

  7. I'm just looking for some sort of hope here. If it's that easy to be denied access to your freedom of travel, I sure as hell hope that there is at least some way to get it back.

dealing this sort of issue is one of the functions of an MP. If you are in this position, call your MP's office and see if you can arrange to speak to them. at very least, you will get coffee and marginal hospitality, and at best, they can have something like this expunged from your record.

    just my $0.02.

  8. Afro Poppa had a bad day, and he truly feels sorry for any amount that he may have contributed to his friends being denied access to the U.S.A.

He, himself, recognizes how his reaction to the border guard's confiscation of his food was a catalyst in all this.

He doesn't need a lecture right now. Don't kick him when he's down.

    *clap clap clap...*

well put, sm. no wonder they gave you the little A next to your name :P
