  1. Now there's a surprise! They broke up quite a long time ago right? I guess its time for a reunion. I never saw them live but I checked out their albums a while back, just cuz of Andrew Whiteman's involvement.
  2. Good show last night, SOLD OUT and super hot in Lee's. I had no idea they were that huge here! Semi-rowdy ska-ish crowd and lots of dancing going on in the floor section. More than a few jabronis in the crowd but overall it was a great night.

    Bonnaroo Additions

Dammmn, none of the additions they have made since the initial lineup announcement have cause much excitement for me. And I'm really bummed about ABB cancelling. I keep telling myself its only a matter of time before Wilco is added... They meet the criteria right??? ---> new album, no shows scheduled around that time.
  4. I am 99% sure that I made Jason Collett a grilled panini at my work yesterday. He said it was delicious!
  5. I noticed this one on the goodworkcanada.ca listings.. Looks like a great gig! I would apply for it if I wasn't already applying to a whack of other jobs that are overseas.
  6. Yeeeehaw Toronto show is tonight. I've been looking forward to this for a while! Anyone caught any of the shows so far? (Montreal, Ottawa, Guelph, QC) I'll be having a few drinks with crew at the Green Room patio pre-show if anyone wants to join the fun.
  7. I found out last night at the Doug Cox & Salil Bhatt show that VISHWA MOHAN BHATT, master Indian classical music and inventor of the Mohan Veena, is coming to Toronto! The show was really good last night, by the way. Salil Bhatt is unbelievable! He is Vishwa's son. Harry Manx is a "disciple" of Salil, having studied under him for 5+ years in India. It was my first time seeing Doug Cox too and he was amazing on the dobros and other weird rare dobro hybrids. Sat April 26 - 7:30pm Medical Sciences Auditorium U of T $38, $28, $18 http://www.vishwamohanbhatt.com/ http://www.raagmala.ca/ VISHWA MOHAN BHATT Creator of the MOHAN VEENA and the winner of the GRAMMY AWARD, Vishwa Mohan has mesmerized the world with his pristine pure, delicate yet fiery music. It is due to Vishwa's maiden mega effort that he rechristened guitar as MOHAN VEENA, his genius creation and has established it at the top most level in the mainstream of Indian Classical Music scenario, thereby proving the essence of his name VISHWA (meaning the world) and MOHAN (meaning charmer) and indeed , a world charmer he is. Being the foremost disciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar, Vishwa Mohan belongs to that elite body of musicians which traces its origin to the Moughal emperor Akbar's court musician TANSEN and his guru the Hindu Mystic Swami Haridas. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt has attracted international attention by his successful indianisation of the western Hawaiian guitar with his perfect assimilation of sitar, sarod & veena techniques, by giving it a evolutionary design & shape and by adding 14 more strings helping him to establish the instrument MOHAN VEENA to unbelievable heights. With blinding speed and faultless legato, Bhatt is undoubtedly one of the most expressive, versatile and greatest slide player s in the world. Being a powerhouse performer, Vishwa's electrifying performance always captivates the audience whether in the United States of America, Europe, Gulf countries or his motherland India. Vishwa Mohan has become the cultural ambassador of India by carrying the Herculean task of glorifying and popularizing Indian culture and music throughout the world. Outstanding features of Bhatt's baaj (style) are his natural ability to play the 'Tantrakari Ang' and incorporate the 'Gayaki Ang' on Mohan Veena which is the greatest advantage of this instrument over traditional Indian instrument like sitar, sarod and veena. It was no surprise that Vishwa Mohan with his sheer virtuosity and limitless supply of melodies won the highest music award of the world, the GRAMMY AWARD IN 1994 along with Ry Cooder for their World Music Album, 'A MEETING BY THE RIVER' enhancing his celebrity status not only as a star performer but also as an improviser and a soulful composer. Vishwa Mohan has performed extensively in the USA, USSR, Canada, the Great Britain, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, Switzerland, Denmark, then scaling the Gulf of Dubai, Al-Sharjah, Bahrain, Muscat, Abu Dhabi etc. and throughout India.
  8. Hey, I won a pair of tickets to this show! (tonight).
  9. Sweet! I'm gonna give this a listen as soon as I get a chance. (Thanks Brad!) Great to see that Words has made its way back onto the Spades roster, I always liked their version of it. About 5 songs on that setlist that I don't recognize too. Encore must have been a blast!
  10. Tix still available at Soundscapes as of this afternoon. That's good news Marge! They are super nice dudes. Glad to hear you'll be there too. Hi Moose!
  11. I think he was just saying that the audience demographic, as well as the nature of the music, is always unpredictable and always changing.
  12. I didn't get that at all.. Where does it allude to that? All I got out of it is that Breit likes to play more sexy guitar solos when there are lots of ladies in the house.
  13. Kitchener has had its fair share of social problems (ie. high unemployment) but it seems to be on the up & up. Also it has a wicked farmers market, a really good dim sum restaurant, the boathouse in victoria park, Centre in the Square, and it is the original home of legendary rock band Helix.
  14. Yeah, I've been digging it a lot! Most notably "Million Star Hotel" (track 2) which absolutely rocks. Can't wait to see them do these songs live. Although I still prefer Shine A Light most out of all three albums.
  15. I got me one lawn ticket, costed $54. yeahh radiohead!

    Merlefest

David Myles, great musician from Fredricton, is playing MerleFest: "I was recently chosen as a finalist in the Chris Austin Songwriting Competition. It takes place every year at Merlefest, which is one of the (if not the) biggest bluegrass festivals in the world. I'm super excited about it. I get to go down, play and check out the whole festival. It's pretty unreal."
  17. Oh yeah, also there's a free in-store appearance at Sonic Boom in Toronto on Apr 16 at 6pm.
  18. Slackers run starts tomorrow! ANyone going? For anyone looking to pick up tickets for the Toronto show on Wednesday, note that Rotate This is all out. Soundscapes still has 'em.
  19. lol I wrote at least 3 or 4 papers on Phish related topics in my undergrad years.. So easy for any undergraduate Phishhead doing social sciences!

  23. That lineup looks way better than Toronto's VFest imo.
  24. I saw RadioHead there in 04. Not a bad venue at all. I had issues with the secuirty' date=' but other than that a good show, decent venue. [/quote'] Is this where UBC has that Arts County Fair party in the Spring?
  25. Music to doze by Reuters April 7, 2008 at 10:44 AM EDT LONDON — Britons like a dose of rock band Coldplay to help them fall asleep, a survey from hotel chain Travelodge found on Monday. The band, whose frontman Chris Martin says he avoids caffeine and alcohol and is known for a lifestyle that is anything but rock 'n' roll, came top in a poll of music choices to help you nod off. Other artists chosen for their slumber-inducing qualities were James Blunt, Snow Patrol, Take That and Norah Jones. Those who prefer to get tucked in with a book last thing at night judged celebrity autobiographies as the most effective in sending you to sleep, with the life stories of glamour model Jordan, soccer star David Beckham and Sharon Osbourne coming top. The survey was carried out among 2,248 people. ------------------------------------------------ I would rather doze off to the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard than to the smooth sounds of James Blunt! But thats just me. What about you? I used to always go to bed with music on but not really at all anymore. But if I WAS to pick something I'd probably go for Bill Frisell's live album "East/West".
