interesting interview with phil after playing with the Musical box a year or two ago...I haven't heard the whole song with him but I wouldn't have guessed his reaction to it:

well said marcO
will you at the hamilton show next week?

Ok, that's cool man. I just don't want you missing out on a piece of Genesis history, you seem like such a fan.
Have you seen the Genesis '76 video? It might give you some appreciation for what Phil did for the band after Gabriel left.
And, ahem, "average" songs on The Lamb.
Thanks ollie, hopefully i'll get to meet you at the upcoming tmb shows. I just got my tix for hamilton, i took a peak at the box office compuer and there are LOTS of seats left. I feel this show is going to be empty
I have half of the '76 video and I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the rest of it. Its ok from what I remember.
...and the lamb...ok ok ok, they are not average songs. I never understood the lamb...only after my second viewing of the show last year did I fully come to appreciate it. Actually, i get LOST after the waiting room. In all sense of the word...I still can't get past that point. What I should have said, is I wouldn't like the idea of choosing 2 songs as a "best of". Especially during the slipperman show, i really enjoyed the little medley but oh how I wanted them to go on and play more!
i'll stop being a party pooper, this reunion is going to be good. I will definatly concider going once i know more details.
But as for now, i'm too swept up in this musical box business. I'm counting the hours

This is the crazy part - i was introduced to genesis thru the Musical box. I mean - i knew about Invisible touch and the 80's pop stuff (shit) but i was never a fan. When i saw the musical box i fell in love with the gabriel material.
So naturally, what I like is the more structured studio stuff, as opposed to Slippermen who play to the "live atmosphere bar crowd"...thats how I think genesis will be when they play again...they will do medly's and uptempo phil singing "I know what i like" and tossing his tamborine and doing his stupid dances. The only post gabriel album i can stand is Trick of the Tail, and even in that i'm not much interested in anything but Volcano and Los Endos (btw, that was the only part I really enjoyed at the slipperman show). So you see, i've been "raised" over the past few years on these acurate note-for-note transcriptions of 'selling england'. The whole stage show...rock opera thing that they dropped when gabriel left was their demise in my eyes. They are a different band, nothing like they were in the 70's even if they tried to do the material. I know The musical box is fake, i know they didn't write the music...but the whole show - its like a broadway play. the actors are fake, the director is interpreting someone elses story...but its still credible and awesome.
I'd hardly be interested in hearing the 2006 genesislineup play 2 average songs from the lamb, a bunch of tunes from '76/77...and some selling england medly with an incomplete suppers ready, lol
Since I really don't appreciate what these guys have done for the past 30 yeras I can't say i'm excited for some huge show at the ACC or Skydome where tickets are absurdly priced and the cheapest nosebleed seats are $80
However, I will gladly pay $50 or $70 to have a great seat for a tribute/recreation/cover band which is practically genesis. I always argued that TMB IS genesis save for the musician's faces and a lefty bassist.
WoW, what an oppinion i've got!
-
Bah...their wallets are running thin - obviously this isn't a "reunion"...the band just ended a hiatus. It will be the same as when they played in the 90's. I don't understand it as being anything really cool - but thats just me because i hate post '76 genesis.
It would be cool if it was the full original line-up. I still don't think they could top the Musical box!
8 more days....its becoming unbarable!

Sorry for this needless bump, but I just remembered about this thread today and I can't stop marveling at the first ~10 posts in this thread. I'm still laughing about it.

tv is quite funny these days - random catroons such as the Real ghostbusters, inspector gadget, and beetlejuice
also, hilarious house of frightenstein was airing daily at 6, but seems to have been pulled - not suprisingly
thanks for the bump
