I beg to differ. My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together. -Archbishop Desmond Tutu

    yayyyyyy God

The first environmental activist to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize - Wangari Maathai. A Christian woman who's life work has been attributed to early childhood lessons of 'serving God by serving fellow human beings'. "The Book of Genesis came to mean much more to me than just a book on how God created. It helped me understand that the creation is how God has made it possible for us to live on this planet — that we need to be very grateful for what he gave us, and we need to take care if it. God would have wanted us to be his custodians rather than dominion, because dominion reflects exploitation." I just finished reading her memoir - 'Unbowed', and i highly, highly recommend it. This woman, through her religion, has done more good for this world than most of us could ever dream of. Cause it's been awhile, and this thread is oh so deserving of a non-sarcastic 'Yay God'.

    HELP CHATHAM!

Big time, KK! Two of Chatham's finest - 'Like Hell' and 'Get Bent' have recently decided to show their non-support on the petition - hahaha. Gotta love this town. BUMP!

    HELP CHATHAM!

Amen!! Our history is huge around these parts - was thinking that the other night actually and kind of struggling to figure out what groups in our municipality are actually out there promoting that kind of thing - the underground railroad, the battle of Tecumseh, the war of 1812... all of it happened right here! And while yah, lots of plaques exist commemorating this stuff, i don't think there's any type of unified front to promote. If there is, it's not very effective promotion! Definitely going to tack this on to my emails to councilors - they're not so much a bad group, it's just that the opposition (think farmers, right of right-wing conservatives and unfortunately, ill-informed) is so loud, and frankly, so mean. Good times. Thanks for the suggestion, and the signatures!

    HELP CHATHAM!

haha, aww, thanks PT! I know... man, i happily admit! And thanks everyone for your help! I sooooo appreciate it. This theatre is one of the most beautiful theatres i've ever been in, and it still kind of baffles me that it's in Chatham. I'd hate for our municipality to just let it go. BUMP!

    HELP CHATHAM!

So about a year ago, Chatham, after fifteen years of fund-raising and government-lobbying and reconstruction, opened the doors to a state of the art, 1200 seat, absolutely beautiful theatre in our downtown. It was a struggle to get the thing built, raise the funds and fight the masses in our largely blue collar town, but it happened and over the course of the fall, winter and spring, it had a largely successful opening season. Unfortunately building costs carrying forward with income coming in didn't mesh up and the Theatre Association went into receivership a few months ago. The future of it now sits in the hands of our municipality as they deliberate what to do regarding its future. I'm hoping you might consider signing a petition that urges our local council to consider the importance this building and its programming has in enriching the lives of people in our community. Now, i know i'm the girl whose wafted in and out of here over the years, spouting my unpopular politics and hating on U2, but i promise, i'm actually a really nice person. But if you don't want to do it for me, do it for the people you know - the backbacons, the swiftys, the blurrys, the ctowns, the OB1s, the meggos, the schwas and any other Chathamites that I might be missing. They're all pretty A+ people. If you've been here, you know we don't have much going on, but we're nice, easy-going people. Unfortunately the political will of our community makes this a seriously up-hill battle... and so i'm turning to this board in hopes of gaining a few more signatures. Help us make Chatham a better place to live! Please take 2 seconds out of your day and consider signing our petition - we're presenting it to council on June 6th and so time is of the essence... from one supporter of the arts to another, thank you!! http://www.petitiononlinecanada.com/petition/support-the-chatham-capitol-theatre-as-an-asset/150
  7. Lack of education is the biggest load of bullshit, ever. It has zero to do with education. And as a somewhat 'educated' person, I take offense as a former-Conservative supporter that anyone thinks it should go on the list. This is politics, afterall. This is it. The Liberals couldn't grasp the simplicity of the concept and its delivery. I don't think they've ever been more out of touch with what people wanted to hear. People distrust politicians and hate politics by nature, they don't care to read through a party platform to hear about an elaborate poverty reduction scheme and what that promises. They wanted what Harper delivered - the one line promise of job creation. Personally, i think the Conservatives had one of the most brilliant campaigns ever.
  8. Awww! Hello. I've decided to give up nationally... off to a council meeting. Municipal politics are where it's at! Canada's too effing big for me. I can drink with my local politicians and send them 50 emails and it doesn't even annoy them. They actually respond! We're fb friends! I said somewhere else that politics is a sham, it's not, it's just all in who holds you accountable. The Feds are held accountable by corporations with way more money than i can even imagine, my local councillors, by ME!
  9. zGyH4mHs2io Guess they have! After youtube-ing, looks like they've played it quite a bit. I stand corrected... they just never play it for moi!
  10. And it kinda... sucked. I don't know, i guess the space ball was cool. I think Wayne talked more than the band actually played. The show had zero flow to it whatsoever... he did announce early on that they were trying new stuff never before heard and that either we were going to walk away thinking it fucking rocked or it fucking sucked... and i'm sad to say, i thought the latter. Yoshimi was slow and shortened and boring, and the accompanying stage banter for Do You Realize made me want to cry thinking of everyone i've lost in life. And why can they never, ever play Fight Test!? I don't think i'm a fan of their new stuff and i'm a little sad about it. They're up there in my most favourite shows ever list and i'm hoping this isn't a morph into something i don't like... like Radiohead. No offense, of course. I'm just a little sad about it all. Here's to hoping they keep on rocking and this was only a one-off.
  11. Title track is great. The rest, ok. I want the reverb-y, let it all out Jim James back. I like track 4 -'Wonderful'- more too... one of those perfect, lie on your bed, close your eyes and float away songs... Other than that, i agree with Northern Wish. Don't know how much this album will blow us away live, but i'd still pay money to find out.
  12. Did they play 'Straight and Narrow' for you guys in Hamilton? The jam on that one was so wild, irregular and bizarre that i remember thinking i was witnessing genius when they came back to the 'it's hard to follow, the straight and narrow' chorus.
  13. Prague is my most favourite city in all of Europe! I'd move there if i weren't so tied to, um... Chatham. Anyway - stay in or as close to Old Town Square as possible... there's cheap hostels all around it. That way you can walk everywhere you'd want to possibly be, and Old Town Square is where you'll probably want to spend most of your time. Lots and lots of good restaurants are everywhere, drink pilsner, eat the dumplings and goulash and weird cabbage everythings, get drunk on absinthe in shady eastern european underground-like bars that are everywhere. Fuck i love that city. Spend at least a day just walking around with nothing else to do as the architecture's been standing since the 12th and 13th centuries (Prague somehow got spared in the wars). This was my most favourite thing of all... the statues are the most intense i've ever seen, the bridges over the river unbelievable, the buildings themselves so inspiring. Other things to do: Get drunk Sit and sit some more on 1 of a thousand outdoor patios Jewish Quarter/Old Jewish Cemetary - awe-inspiring/speech-stopping Prague Castle - castle's cool and very fairy-tale-ish, but the view of the city below is the best (imo) Paddle boat on the river, cause it's fun/beautiful and awesome to laze around on a beautiful river Churches - i forget the names, but there's some absolutely beautiful ones around Old Town Square St. Charles' bridge - they set up a market on the bridge every... Saturday maybe? it's cool - saw the coolest gypsy jazz band there, and the bridge itself is unreal Walk around - again, this is the best- Eastern Europe is great for all the shady narrow streets with surprises around every corner Torture Museum - i forget the name of it, but it's halfway between Old town and the castle and it's pretty cool... fits in well with Prague's shady theme Wenceslas Square is hyped up on trip advisor, etc. as something to see, but i didn't find it anything too crazy - it's newer than old town, and more like a trendy shopping area than anything else. But it's only a couple of blocks from old town, so i guess it's something to add to the list. Anyway, have fun, i'm jealous!
  14. Haha - at times I was afraid to establish eye contact out of fear of being heckled. One time I had to get up on stage and kiss Andrew Dice Clay... not even in his cool days. And he was wearing jogging pants and not even the hip-look at me do yoga-kind. Ever since i'm been oh-so-afraid of stage banter. These guys (esp. Ryan) are hilarious - in a quirky, what planet are you from, kind of way. I'd go so far as to say they're my new favourite Canadian band. Glad you guys had fun!
  15. Haha, my neighbour wasn't home! Thanks for putting the garbage out though! Blair - they didn't come on till around 11 or so. Shuyler Jansen's touring with them and he opens.. the Phog also booked a local Windsor singer-songwriter type guy to play first as well. I think if you're there by 10ish you're all good. Have fun!
  16. Went to Windsor last night, and all i can say is: they fucking killed it. I've loved these guys for a few years now but this is the first time i've seen them live and WOW! So much alive. Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa, GO! If you're only familiar with their studio albums, those albums don't do them anywhere near the amount of justice they deserve. LOVE!!
  17. Bad people and mentally ill people aren't one in the same... and far more of who we consider 'bad' people, are actually mentally ill. http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-human-beast/200912/crime-brain-disorder
  18. Bad and good people, the million dollar question! Truth is, i don't know. But i believe bad people are *created* and this one of the driving forces behind such a creation. And i've taken flak for it before, but still sticking to my theory of mankind being inherently good. So if that's true, than this theory works, and voila! Issue in world peace. hahah Or something close to. Maybe.
