    Tennis?

I'm going to be in Ottawa this weekend to see my GF, she's working during the day on Saturday and Sunday so I'm looking for stuff to do. Anyone up there want to play tennis? I have an extra raquet. Later, FunkyBeats.
  2. Cool, I'll coordinate beforehand and figure out a way to smuggle you in the park past the fully armed eighteen year olds they have guarding the place. FunkyBeats.
  3. Here's some info, Kev, We're staying at the State park just down the road from the venue, there is a little man made lake for swimming and it only costs $22.00 per night and some sites have electricity. Here's the booking page: http://www.reserveamerica.com/jsp/commonpage.jsp?goto=/usa/ny/dari/newindex.html
  4. O.K., Whose in for this one? Me and a bunch of people are staying at the state park just up the road from the venue. Maybe a skank BBQ is in order before the show... FunkyBeats.
  5. Got three, who wants em? PM me. FunkyBeats.
  6. Hey Kev, After listening to some of Moe.'s newer live stuff the Genesis sounding song is not George but one of their other newer songs, probably the one before it in the setlist. Enjoy, FunkyBeats.
  7. Not for me. It was good (and a good one-set/one-hour moe. show)' date=' but ranks behind Femi Kuti, Toumani Diabate, Bela Fleck And The Flecktones, and Los Lobos (so far). Aloha, Brad[/quote'] Well I caught Bela, and Femi as well and I enjoy them both tremendously but for me Moe. both surprised and inspired me with that set. I needed some rock! FunkyBeats.
  8. Best set of the bluesfest! That new tune George(?) sounded an awful lot like old Genesis, I like it! FunkyBeats.
  9. I too, am getting psyched for Moe tonight and George Clinton as well. Maybe we'll get a Wormwood set...
  10. I'm in Ottawa, on vacation, for the Bluesfest and I have a few tracks that I'm session drumming on that I'd like to work on during the day. Is there any rehearsal spaces that I could go and drum in (drum set provided there) for cheap during the day? In Toronto you can pay ten bucks for an hour to practice drums at PRB's rehearsal space during the day when it's not booked and I was hoping there might be something similar here. Thanks, Funkybeats.
  11. I went in to the Bluesfest last night with a backpack, which held my coat and some water, and didn't get searched at all. Is this typical? Because if it is I'm bringing my own beer for Moe/P-Funk, their selection sucks bad.
  12. Caught Bela, standard show and headed down to the River Stage for Femi, he rocked as usual with some high energy tunes, volume was a little loud for my ears, but oh well. For some reason I couldn't take my eyes off the backup singers...
  13. Roti's are good, they weigh about three pounds and hit the spot!
  14. Hey Y'all, Anyone checking out Strawbs electric at Hughs Room tonight? Kanada Kev I'm looking at you... I'll be there with my girl and some of my Genesis buddies. Good times. Funkybeats.
  15. Yo T.O folks, come get your hippie love in at the beach, long weekend style! Bring your Djembes, see you there... hi David and Irving here. We’re really happy to announce that Sunday afternoons down at Cherry Beach will be continuing this summer for the 6th year! All winter long we were concerned that we had reached the end of an era and that Toronto wouldn’t allow us our beach afternoons. After 5 years of sweet mellow anarchy and friendship in the waterfront sun, and it was frustrating to think we couldn’t play some nice music in the park and let you dance and make friends. We got advice from the Kensington Sundays people Shamez and Kelsey, Ari from the Trinity Bellwoods Tuesday drumming group, our smart political friend Mike Layton, the Toronto Public Space Committee, Kevin and Lori from Newmindspace and others and went into action this spring to motivate our local councillor, Paula Fletcher, to support you. Thanks to over 150 people who wrote intelligent and sincere letters to their office, they realized that this Sunday option is very important to a lot of people and they were able to throw their weight behind it. We wrote up a proposal to the city and they have given us a permit. Yay! This type of fun is a viable part of great cities like New York, Paris, Montreal, Madrid and more. Toronto just got way cooler. Here’s the good news: Bring a frisbee, bring a kite, bring a handy sweater, bring a dog (only nice dogs), bring your lover and a hammock. And pass the time on this lazy sunny Sunday afternoon with friends and friends of friends... Directions to Cherry Beach and the new site - Take Lakeshore Blvd east of downtown just past Parliament. Turn south down Cherry Street all the way to the end, then go east into the parking lot on your left. At the end of the lot walk down to the beach and follow along... you'll hear the music. Biking to Cherry Beach is easy along the paths beside the lake, and a bus from Union Station goes there too. Things to think about - Please bring only what you plan to take back out with you, leave no trace. Pack something warm (it gets cool after dark by the lake) and something to sit on and also something to keep sun off your head. Drink lots of water. Bring something to share. And remember to take care of your friends, your neighbours, and what's going on around you. It's what makes Cherry Beach happen smoothly. We have been asked by Parks to put a lid on public consumption of alcohol, which is reasonable. It’s delicate for now, so understand that alcohol in public spaces is not ok. David and Irving will need to keep an eye out, so please don’t let us see any. We will have friends helping to remind people of this over the weekend. If we all cooperate here, then we get to have our good times. Looking for djs, bands and other performances Over the course of the summer there’s about 80 djs, bands and artists that perform. We’d love your suggestions and any contacts you may have to make the performances happen. Last summer’s stunning hit was the Jimmy Swift Band from Nova Scotia, arranged by our friend Derek in synch with the band’s appearance at NXNE. If you’re bringing in a dj or band or performance, ask them to make an appearance at the beach part of their weekend in Toronto. They may embrace the chance to play outdoors, away from the hype and lights of a club, to a happy and enthusiastic crowd like ours. Think big and let us know. For the last 5 years the picnic’s been free. Now with the permit, insurance, soundsystem and other weekly expenses, we’d like to ask for your help with costs. From time to time we’ll be passing around a hat, please contribute as you are able. We like to give our deep thanks to Pat and Councillor Paula Fletcher, Sandy Straw and Jamie McCaig at Toronto Parks, Jason and Councillor Joe Pantalone, Wade, Charlotte, Lyen, Bettina and Emily, Justin, Tomasz and Robbi-Anne (for moral support). Thank yourselves, too, for the huge influx of support letters to city council. Pat and Paula told us how impressed they were with the letters they received in support of Cherry Beach Sundays. They get lots of angry and aggressive complaints. Your letters were refreshingly upbeat, mature and personally engaging. Way to go everyone! We did it! For updates in case of rain, call 416.461.4939 Thanks for reading, see you Sunday! cheers, David and Irving
  16. That died with the poor turnouts two years in a row, why I'll never know. On that note I saw the Allmans and Moe last year (or the year before?) in London for an audience of maybe 1000 people. Lamest crowd ever and the band still rocked the house!
  17. I think I'll check that out. Free + in my hood = good times!
  18. Thanks guys, I'm a little confused at the discrepancy between the Ottawa show listings and the Avant-Garde website, they show different bands. Would that place be worth going to tonight? And what time does the ribfest start on weekdays? sorry about all the questions...
  19. Hey all, I'm in Ottawa for tonight and tomorrow, looking for any cool shows or decent pubs to hang out in on those nights. Thanks for any info! FunkyBeats.
  20. I'm looking to buy a drum pedal as mine was stolen, DW5000 or better preferred, single or double. Let me know if ya got one lying around for the cold hard cash! FunkyBeats.
  21. Mike Stern with Dave Weckl on drums, these guys are playing Montreal this year, wish I could be there but i gotta work, doh!
  22. Right now I would have to vote for sleep, working for a living sucks!
  23. Thanks guys, see ya at the shows!
