  1. I made a connection between "People that complain about the name BLUESFEST" and "People that have never gone to BLUESFEST"

I complained about the name at one time, when it moved on from blues music, but I've grown not to care anymore. I have been to it however, at three different locations. Major Hill, The Flats & Confederation Park.

    :chug:

  2. I really have no opinion on the line-up, just who I would be interested in seeing. While I certainly can't (and won't) criticize anyone for their taste or enjoyment in live music, and maybe it's just me, but I honestly can't understand what appeal anyone has towards seeing Lady Gaga with the blatant corporate shilling she is engaging in on her current tour. Her SXSW show has been criticized by many as the beginning of the end of SXSW - I just fear it's going carry on into Ottawa.

  3. edit: I'm pretty happy about the Violent Femmes booking, they put on a great show

Agreed. I was pleasantly surprised to see some tour dates. Violent Femmes might be enough to drag me to Toronto for the TURF fest. (and DBT of course)

  4. Since I won't be attending I suppose it's pointless to make this. But if I was going make the journey, I guess this would be who I wouldn't want to miss. I imagine there are a couple others I'm missing or not familiar with I'd be interested in, but for sure these.

  5. Way too young.

Dave Brockie, frontman of heavy metal group GWAR, has been found dead in his Virginia home on Sunday evening. He was 50.

Brockie's death was confirmed by Richmond, Virginia police, WTVR reports.

Brockie founded GWAR, the heavy metal group known for performing in elaborate costumes, make-up and alter-egos. Brockie went by the name Oderus Urungus on stage.

"Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I've known," former bassist Mike Bishop told Richmond, Va's alternative paper Style Weekly.

Police do not suspect foul play, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported. The band will be issuing an official statement later on Monday.

The group has been active for 30 years and recently completed a tour of Japan. In 2011, Cory Smoot, a guitarist with the band, was found dead.

  6. Safe to view at work, nothing seriously graphic. Lucky seems to be an understatement. Glad the guys alright. Crazy.

The ball hit Chapman in one of the most protected areas of the skull, the doctor said. “If you get hit in the side of the head, that could be disastrous,†Kremchek said. “Where Aroldis got hit, you don’t want to say he got hit in a good spot because he’s undergoing surgery, but it could have been a lot worse, a lot more injuries, a lot more permanent. He’s very lucky.â€

  7. Sounds great so far.

Any reason this album was shelved originally?

I wondered that as well and found this.

So how on earth do you lose an album by a bona fide country icon? Well, it helped that back in the early ‘80s, Cash was not exactly flavor of the month, C&W-wise. “Johnny Cash did not quite fit,†says John Carter Cash, the producer son of Johnny and June Carter Cash. Cash recorded the tracks with producer Billy Sherrill who at the time was the A&R chief at CBS Records Nashville, but even his imprimatur couldn’t get the collection released at the time. “I think he made the record which was correct for Johnny Cash,†says John Carter. “However, Columbia didn’t know what to do with it so this record was literally shelved.â€

Releasing a posthumous album can be a tricky thing.

The result can be a jumbled collage of musical thoughts or half-done sketches, something that just doesn't represent the dead artist's vision. At worse, it can come off as a scheme to cash in on an artist's legacy.

However, this new release by the legendary Johnny Cash is something special. Discovered by Cash's son, John Carter, Out Among the Stars is an album that Cash recorded in the '80s, but was shelved by his label.

Here is a work that was lovingly restored, considered and released for a reason. Here, you've got an accurate recording of the album Cash wanted to make at a pivotal point in his career.

Here, you've got previously unheard music from a country music giant, the way he wanted you to hear it.

Listen to Out Among the Stars a week before it's released. And you can pre-order the album on iTunes.

  9. I don't have an ounce of hate for her. Disinterest perhaps, but not hate. I did find it funny the National Post dedicated an entire page to it, even though there are an endless amount of experts & non experts chiming in. Many with much more reliable credentials. But you're right, there's nothing problematic about her posting pictures and suspicions that had already proven incorrect before she spoke up. It's just loopy.
